A return to the Asia Tour and the Tour of Taiwan. Plenty of hills on the route, and a strong field lines up.
Gisborne GP winner Francesco Ginanni is the obvious favourite, as the rider with the best hill stat. But so often is he an inconsistent rider, so that is never a guarantee. Froome beat him in Sweden recently, but the Italian does seem to be in form after a disastrous Tour of South Africa.
Challenging him will be Aleksandr Efimkin, runner up in Gisborne. The Russian was also runner up in the Tour Down Under, despite winning a stage. Time to go one better? The man who beat him Down Under was Alex Dowsett, and he leads the Jaguar squad here.
Vueling will expect better than we have seen so far from Patrik Sinkewitz. He has been there or there about, but not securing the big points scores desired. Hassen Ben Nasser is also searching for his first big result of the season, for Pivovarna Lasko.
Some other puncheurs to look out for are Roy, Betancourt, Ghisalberti, Konovalovas, Mehr-Wenige and Hatanaka. While Oz have a trio of options in Lloyd, Jiao and Visconti as they continue to hunt for Asian Tour points.
It's not all hills, there are some sprints too.
Allan Davis heads the field in this category, and will have a strong leadout in Brea. To challenge him are Peeters, Gatto, Pedersen, Bozic, Nateghi, Rasmussen (for stage one at least), etc etc
I'm sure Armavia, Cadbury-Schweppes, Evian-MIAT, HTC-Nieuwsblad and Sauber Petronas will find a way to be involved in the race as well.
The defending champion does return, but the terrain certainly does not suit Krasnoperov this year. In truth, they did not favour him last year either as breakaways dominated the race. Maybe they will again?

What a strong field indeed! Will be happy with a Top-10 and our three puncheurs should all score in the end. No need for a disappointing race like langkawi
Last year we finished 3rd here, thanks to a breakaway. Wouldn't mind if the same happens again, with an Oz-rider involved.

Wow, strong field, i am happy that Asia and hills are combination not for us and we are avoiding these. Good luck to all, looks like Ginanni - Efimkin battle to me.

Aargh, Ginanni present... Was hoping for a relatively easy field for Efimkin, considering the many race days. Oh, well.
Fingers crossed for a miracle, as I really want to check one of the win goals, at least.

Ginanni Vs. Efimkin. But maybe, the hills might have a surprise in store. |

We're hoping to get in a few breakaways and secure some points towards our goal in the Asia tour rankings.

What a strong field...
Brought the Kono-Mandri-Lowe trio, but I feel it may turn out to be a waste of race days for all three, given the competition.
Hard to pick a favourite, could be a good battle for top spot.

Pretty strong field indeed! Not that I had any big plans for this race anyway, but since we're that well below standard compared to the top notch, it may be slightly easier to slip in to a few breakaways. Bikienga, Burlutsky and Sai-Udomsin will be our keys here |

Like others have said, glad I didn't sent a team here. Costa/Barrio would have struggled to pick-up and decent amount of points.

Damn, I didn't expect such strong startlist. Oh well, at least I hope we're not beaten by a random sprinter this time.

dammit was not waiting for an initial list so strong ... So I have to lower quite my expectations... Still think Dietmar is able to achieve a top 10 and finish well most of the stages, also Van Loocke may be able to discuss the flat stages since none of them are very long.
Efimkin is my favorite

With 4 out of 7'hilly' stages it was always going to be fairly competitive.
Having the hardest hilly stage first should on paper mean Ginanni should be fairly comfortable - but never quite works out like that.
Someone like Ben Nasser may well end up taking this one. |

I dont quite get how people thought "Look, a hilly C1 stage race with 4 hill stages. Clearly no PCT team will send their best puncheur their"

I think a lot of people were counting on the race days to put the big names off - but it's going to make for a great race

My thought pattern was more along the lines of oh that's in asia and it's a tour which means it could help towards 3 of my goals, lets go there and hope we get lucky.
