Tired of waiting for the official ManGame-season to begin? Interested in seeing your Aussies (or Kiwis, or Malaysians, or Brits, Japanese) racing the world's fastest criterium series? Then some of us managers now get the chance to participate at the Bay Classic Series in Australia!
The Idea/ We found some sponsors to provide the cycling fans in Australia (and around the world, too) an unofficial start to the 2013 season. No ranking points will be rewarded, no XPs will be gained, no racedays will be used.. it's just for fun! Interested? Then continue to read..
The Race/ The Bay Classic Series is a road cycling race held in and around Port Phillip Bay in Victoria, Australia. It consists of 4 criteriums (mostly flat, one hilly). The stages are approximately one hour criteriums (around 50km each) with three intermediate sprints. Points are awarded to the first 10 riders at the finish (12, 10, 8 to 1). Additional points are awarded in the intermediate sprints to the first three places (3, 2 & 1 points) towards a separate sprint classification. A team classification is calculated from the points of the highest ranked three riders in each team of five.
The Teams/ The Bay Classic Series is first and foremost an Australian event. 14 teams in total will participate, most of them Australian "amateur" teams [so "fake-teams" as for the ManGame]. For 2013, there will be also a Malaysian team and two teams from New Zealand (plus "National Teams" for Japan and/or Great Britain) participating. There will be 5 riders per team and now it's your turn..
The Riders/ Each ManGame-manager with an appropiate rider* in his team is allowed to subscribe up to 3 riders** of his ManGame-team. I will then allocate your riders to one of the teams, replacing Australian Free Agents (who will also participate in those teams). I will update the 2nd post with the "nominees" and team-list, so that you can see if there's still a free slot within the teams.
*The riders have to be:
- from Australia, New Zealand (10 in total), Malaysia (5) and Japan and/or Great Britain (replacing a "fake-team", if 5 riders are subscribed)
- have an average of 73.00 or less
**Exception:
- If a team (like Oz Cycling) is able to send 5 Australian riders at once, the race organziation may consider inviting this "complete" team (replacing an "amateur" team)
The Deadline and Reports/ The race-reports will be as ManGame-usual, while the place to find them will be different. I will either post the reports in Oz Cycling's HQ or maybe here (if allowed). The deadline for subscribing your wanted riders will be Sunday, 13th january. Any questions? Just ask right away!
Your nominees can be posted in this thread!
Race 1/ Geelong Criterium
Race 2/ Queenscliff Criterium
Race 3/ Portarlington Criterium
Race 4/ Williamstown Criterium
Finish line Geelong/ Ritchie Boulevard
Start and Finish Queenscliff
Finish climb Portarlington/ Harding Street

From what I can tell all 5 of these are eligible so if that is the case then I'd like to nominate them to be the Malaysian team. If you want only 3 then it would be the top 3 that I would nominate.
Salleh | Mohammed Zamri | Awang | Azizulhasni | Haidar Anuawar | Ahmad | Othman | Muhamad Adiq | Rusli | Amir Mustafa |

Great idea Tsmoha!!
Unfortunately, I don't have any riders of the eligible nationalities, but if you find out you are short of teams, or just want some more spice, then maybe I could make a South East Asian team with some of my riders?
If so, it would be:
Meyin Wang (CHN)
Biao Liu (CHN)
Ying Hon Yeung (HKG)
Chun Kai Feng (TPE)
Jimmy Pranata (INA)
And if not, I will follow this race with great enthusiasm anyway! |

@Bjartne and Froome: Thanks for the interest, guys! I will first wait and see how the teams will grow. If there's some space left, I will consider mixing a team of Asians as well, so I keep your nominees in mind. But I can't promise anything

Thanks, tsmoha, will be exciting to kick off the season with a show race. Been a long time now. If there are more chinese nominees, we could maybe have an own Chinese national team instead or together with an asian mix team. But let's wait and see how it develops |

Thanks for the quick nominees Right now we only accept a full-Aussie-team, sorry, so (at least for the moment) I will only take 3 of your votes. Just let me know, which 3 riders you want first.
@fjhoekie: Sorry, no

Sorry, this bit had me confused: - from Australia, New Zealand (10 in total), Malaysia (5) and Japan and/or Great Britain (replacing a "fake-team", if 5 riders are subscribed)
Kennaugh, Wiggins and Cummings please. |

Yeah, I see it's not 100% clear. What I meant was, that I will only add a British team, if 5 british riders (in total) will be nominated You're 3 riders are in. The others may follow if too less Aussies join the fun.
@Manx: Of course you can! He's in the British team.

--------Simply Red Bull Press release------
On loan Jack Bobridge has asked team manager Smowz if he can be released from his pre-season training to ride in the Bay Classics. Smowz eager to see his riders gain exposure is all to happy to allow Bobridge to jet off to Australia.
He discusses the possibility with his other four eligible riders. The other on loan youngsters George Bennett and Luke Durbridge while enthusiastic admit the Bay Classics are not really good for their pre-season training schedules. However both journeymen Wes Sulzberger and Joseph Cooper are eager to test their speed and form.
In short Simply Red Bull would like to put forward:
Jack Bobridge (Australia)
Wes Sulzberger (Australia)
Joseph Cooper (New Zealand)
Smowz also takes the opportunity to tip his hat to tsmoha, fantastic initiative mate!

While thousands of fans would love to see Aussie-star Jack Bobridge racing the Bay Classic Series this year, the race organization has to stay with their own rules and do not allow riders with an average of more than 73 to participate
As for Sulzberger and especially Cooper, we're glad to announce that both riders will ride the Bay Classics. And thanks for the kind words

----------Simply Red Bull press release -------------
A slightly embarrassed team manager Smowz and Jack Bobridge have had a quick chat with young Kiwi George Bennett. George would be pleased to take Bobridge's already booked plane ticket and ride in his stead. Bennett is keen to test his climbing legs on the hilly stage and see his family.
