Hi,
My name is Alexander Vinokourov, and season 2012 will be my retirement year as a professional cyclist.
I hope to make this my greatest season yet. Maybe I won't top some of my old(er) results, as winning the Vuelta, but I want to enjoy every race, so I can say goodbye to this beautiful sport in a positive way. This sport has given me much, but it's also taken a lot.
Calendar
February: GP Med and Andalucia, two warm-ups.
March: Paris - Nice
April: Brabantse Pijl + 3 Ardennes Classics
May: /
June: Critérium du Dauphinée + Tour de France
July: Tour de France
Augustus: Coppa del Veneto
September: Trofeo della Romagna, GP de Québec, GP de Montréal
I will finish my career at the World Championships, hoping for a Gold Medal.
Season Goals
My main goal is enjoy this season. I know I'll miss it so much when I leave, so I want to enjoy every minute of it.
Beyond that, I hope for a Gold Medal at the World Championships, a final Tour stage win and who knows, a second Liégé - Bastogne - Liège victory?
Story Information
Spoiler As this story runs at the same time as my Legend-story with Roberto Velásquez, it will be irregular. Reports will come as I have or don't have time.
I will edit Vinokourov's stats slightly to have a chance at some nice results, possibly bringing his HILLS up to 78. Maybe that doesn't correspond with reality, but that's why it's a story. The story about Alexander Vinokourov's retirement year. Hope you enjoy it.

SSJ2Luigi: Thanks of course I won't forget Roberto. Roberto is main priority. This is just one race every now and then
TheManxMissile: What do you mean: a reputation?
Daggen: I know, I had this idea a while ago but I was doubting between Vino and Voigt, when you started Voigt, you decided for me
Jakstar22: Thanks, I hope so, too
I'll do the first race sometime this weekend, probably, but I'm not rushing myself with this.

Good luck with this Ian, should be a good read. One question: Why does it say 2012-2013 season in the first post? |

The life of a cyclist can be chaotic. I haven't been able to post anything and we've already raced the prologue of Paris - Nice. I have participated in different races than my schedule said. But as I mentioned, the life of a cyclist can be chaotic.
Prerace
I started my season quite well, and I've had some nice results already. I feel this will be a happy year in my life.
I opened with a 4th place in Marseille, thanks to a late attack.
I came in 14th in Trofeo di Lugano, which wasn't too bad, considering I took a nasty fall mid-race.
Finally, I won Vuelta Ciclista a Andalucia. I would've liked it if I'd won a stage as well, but a 2nd place is as close as I got. However, winning a stage race is always great!
Vuelta Ciclista a Andalucia

Paris - Nice Prologue
I didn't came here as a leader. I'm here for a stage win, mostly.
The form is all right, that much I can tell you. I even beat Tony Martin here (who had a bad winter, apparently) You don't get a chance to beat the World Champion every day!
Result
1 | Sylvain Chavanel | Omega Pharma-Quick-Step Cycling Team | 12'43 | | 2 | Fredrik Kessiakoff | Astana Pro Team | + 12 | IanButler | 3 | Alexandre Vinokourov | Astana Pro Team | + 13 | IanButler | 4 | Tony Martin | Omega Pharma-Quick-Step Cycling Team | + 15 | | 5 | Luis León Sánchez | Rabobank Cycling Team | + 18 | | 6 | Rui Costa | Movistar Team | s.t. | | 7 | Richie Porte | Sky Pro Cycling | + 20 | | 8 | Vasil Kiryienka | Movistar Team | s.t. | | 9 | Danny Pate | Sky Pro Cycling | s.t. | | 10 | Tiago Machado | Radioshack Nissan Trek | s.t. | |
Well, we're off to a great start, let's hope it gets better! |

YvesStevens: I have no idea I never spend much time on equipment.
Daggen: He was in the lead for such a long time, I was hoping he'd win
pcm2009fan: It was a bit unexpected, but his form is great
Jakstar22: Let's hope so!
the_hoyle: Well, then you should be looking forward to his retirement, no? Don't worry about it, I understand, thanks for following anyway then! |
