Also, since yesterday's stage was already week 2, a thought: I've lost count of the times I've seen Valverde do that, accelerate in the last half a kilometer and pass a bunch of people. Most famously in 2003 and 2006 at Vuelta stages of course, but he does it so often.

It takes both an incredible anaerobic punch and an amazing intelligence for the exact moment to go.

Think it was a Vuelta mountain stage in 2006 or 2007 when Vinokourov had created a 45" gap over Valverde before he started his sprint with 1km to go and took the stage win with 10" over Vono.
 
Metriz-
I expect Matti Breschel to atleast try something today. If any stage during this Vuelta suits him, it is this one.
