Tour de France, Stage 9 - Monday, July 9th Arc-et-Senans - Besançon

"How shall I put it? A crucial stage riddled with heritage sites and tourist landmarks. I mention heritage and tourism because it starts from the Royal Salt Works, which date from the time of Louis XV. The stunning pictures will be broadcast in 190 different countries. And I say it is a crucial stage because, after ten days of racing, the time trial will give us a much clearer picture of the state of affairs. The beautiful course is similar to the stage around the Lac de Vassivière a few years ago. We chucked in a climb which will no doubt sap cyclists' legs. We chose this terrain to make it easier for strong riders to prevail."

Just saw that Euskatel has only 5 riders left.
Will a team be allowed to continiue if they have less than 3 riders continiouing?

Even if they have one, no problem

As for the stage results, I predict this (change team names as appropriate), minus the awful awful awful awful awful headline

I love that your point is ruined by cyclingnews being incompetent at posting results.

Johannes Frohlinger of Argos-Shimano didn't start this morning.
No idea if mentioned before.

Will Nibali hold on to his 3rd place after tomorrow? I think he's capable of doing so. This years tour is just a bit boring... Bradley will win too easy.

I think there will be a heads up battle between Martin and Larsson for the stage win.

I actually think, they have both been taking it easy at the back of the field during the whole week, and they both stayed safe (atleast Larsson, think Martin didnt crash either?). While Cancellara, Wiggins osv have rly pushed the last few days.

As much as I'd like to see Larsson up there, I find it hard to believe.

He was at his peak in 2008. Top 15 at the Giro and second behind Cancellara in the Olympics. After that I feel that he has slowly decreased. He couldn't beat riders like Pinotti, Thomas and Sergent in this year's Giro, so I doubt he'll even come close to Cancellara, Martin and Wiggins.

True, but he has had the olympics as his main goal the whole season so form should be building nicely.

laidbackmarc
Wiggins must be the favorite.

Cancellara and Martin are outsiders. Cancellara tried to defend yellow as as possible and Martin had his crashes.

How about Zubeldia?? Smile

Zubeldia was too young for RS, but now he's 35 he's entered his peak years as a cyclist, watch out for him. Wink

Seriously though, in the form he is now he could limit the losses to ~2'30'' or thereabouts.

baseballlover312
He was 15th last year with no ambitions.
