"This stage is no leg breaker, but it still is bumpy enough to dampen the hopes of pure sprinters. In other words, I do not think Cavendish will be among those fighting for the win. I hope I am wrong, but I think he will be dropped before reaching Seraing. The course is less demanding than in 1995, when Bruyneel and Indurain blew the race apart on the road to Liège, but it comes very close to the Ardennes and, at 198 km, the stage distance is nothing to sneeze at. In short, we wanted to preserve the peloton's energy while setting the tone for the rest of the race. We will see..."

Harmen on Eurosport called the finish like the Mur de Huy. Clearly it isn't by the profile, though despite his performance in taking the yellow jersey in that small s*** race in France recently I cannot see Cavendish getting up it.
It isn't for Kittel or Greipal either.
Sagan on the other hand...
I would say Cancellara and Gilbert based on the prologue could be the main favourites with Sagan here.

This is really unpredictable stage. Anyone from Sagan, EBH, Evans, Gilbert, Westra, Freire, Cancellera or Chavanel to take it. Plus some attacking French riders, this one should be good.
Well, at leats last 5km of it.

Buzz about Cancellara losing the jersey tomorrow.. I simply can't see that happen. Gilbert will be the only only who might have a slight chance if he is in 2011-ardennes shape meanwhile Cance having a offday.
Boasson Hagen, Gilbert, Sagan and Valverde. These 4 are the favourites. Riders like Rojas, Goss and Cancellera will also have a chance. Maybe, maybe, Nibali or Evans if they don't have to help Sagan and Gilbert and instead putting on an attack. |

Thx mate  And just to say anyone can make the stage thread for next day though after the stage has finished

I can't see past Gilbert here. Yeah there are those other guys who could win, but home support counts for quite a lot and Gilbert has it. He's been training for this for a while.
He takes the stage tomorrow.

Gilbert said today that tomorrow's finish is not steep enough for him so expect the stronger sprinters to fight for the win.
Sagan, Freire, Boasson Hagen, Rojas will be close I think

Sagan, Gilbert and Boasson Hagen are favourites in my eyes. Then Voeckler/Chavanel might surprise, just because they're Frenchmen, racing in Belgium |

Voeckler is out of condition, rule him out. He spent 10 or 12 days without touching his bike to heal his knee after the Dauphiné.
Plus like he said about the Flèche Wallone, he was placed around the 10th place under the flamme rouge twice, and never got a good result out of it, so if tomorrow's finish is the same as Huy, you can definitely rule him out.
Chavanel is also too heavy for that kind of stuff, I reckon.
It has Sagan and Gilbert written all over it. And maybe Valverde for a podium finish. |

Tomorrow's finish is nowhere near as tough as Huy. Still don't think Voeckler can do anything though, considering his problems in the last weeks.

About Voeckler, I can't see him achieve anything G.C. wise this year (in the future neither actually). He should go for a stage in the third week, when his freshness will pay. I think that'd be reasonable with his condition. |

I'm flagging for Cavendish. The finish is much easier than La Gileppe in ZLM Tour, where he finished second. Doubt they'll be able to break him on a 4% slope.
Sagan will be hard to beat though.
