Can't wait. Cool

Basso and Scarponi are my favourites. I think those two are a cut above the rest. Will be interesting to see Schleck's form as well.

Got a feeling that Possovivo might surprise a few people this year Smile

evilhumer
Ive had that feeling about Pozzovivo the last few Giros, but he always seems to dissapoint. Hope it will be different this year Smile Im not so sure about Basso being a real contender for the win...Im thinking Joaquim Rodriguez or Scarponi

Many big stars at the startlist, i think i would be a very great Giro this year Grin

If Basso is still the old one, he can actually ride himself in form by the 3rd week, which will be most decisive. Otherwise, i'm going for Scarponi. Wonder how Cunego will do though.

Cunego wont go for GC. I read in an article about Lampre that Scarponi aims at the overall victory and Cunego will chase stage wins.

I can see him winning a few with the form he had in Trentino.

Will be a great Giro this year. Think Scarponi will take it. Think Cataldo will surprise.

Probably wanting to much but I hope De Gendt can get a Top 15 or maybe a top 10. Kreuziger will win
Pozzato sucks!

It's here. The long awaited first Grand Tour of the year. The long awaited Giro d'Italia.
After two amazing editions, the 2012 Giro d'Italia has a lot to live up to, and starting in Denmark this year. CrueTrue proudest moment yet Grin

8.7 kilometres against the clock is what the riders will have to overcome on this first stage. 8.7 kilometres of adrenaline flowing through the body, 8.7 kilometres of blood taste in the mouth. 8.7 kilometres of pride in the form of cheering from the many thousands spectators along the route.

The time trial itself is quite traditional as the lenght indicates as well. It's pretty technical with approximately 15 90-degree bends which gives an edge to the explosive riders and not just the time trial specialists capable of powering out a constant high number of watts. Typical of the Danish country is the route very flat with only a 14 meter rise from 45 to 59 meters above sea level and not many hills.

The Favorites

The riders will for sure do anything within their power to be able to wear the Maglia Rosa on stage 2. However, some probably have the better skills needed for a time trial like this.

One of the major favorites have to be Geraint Thomas of Team Sky who convincingly won the prologue in Romandie recently. Another man from Sky, Mark Cavendish targets Pink in the first week. With good day here his dream can come true.

The Italian Daniele Bennati will also be one to watch as he would love to pull the pink jersey over his shoulders after the first stage, and he has previously shown that he's a good prologue rider, especially on technical courses. Most recently did he finish second in the 9.3 kilometre time trial in Tirreno - Adriatico, only beaten by Fabian Cancellara.

Another rider to whom it would mean a whole lot to win the opening stage is the home soil favorite Alex Rasmussen who on several occasions has shown his skills in the fight against the clock.

Also among the favorites are a bunch of young riders: Taylor Phinney of BMC, Michal Kwiatkowski and Julien Vermote of Omega Pharma-QuickStep, Jesse Sergent of Radioshack-Nissan-Trek, Jack Bobridge of GreenEdge and the new kid on the block, Manuele Baoro of the Danish team SaxoBank as well as Swede, Gustav Erik Larsson.

There will be many that will surprise I think so it should be a great watch this !

I'm starting to believe it. The whole city of Herning is basically looking like a gay festival at the moment with pink flags on every single street light.

Stupid exams Sad I have a really tight schedule next week, so I won't be able to go. It's only about an hour away...just my luck

lokytrew
I think Rujano can pull this off. He's my No. 1 favourite. Scarponi could compete with him, but the shape of Scarponi is quite bad. However, Rujano seemed really in form in Trentino.

cactus-jack
Screw the trophy, I'll ride the Giro backwards on a unicycle if you just give me the podium girl on the left!

fenian_1234
Basso, Scarponi, Kreuziger and Schleck to fight out the GC. Can't see past Basso myself for the win.

Rujano and Pozzivivo to do well on at least some mountain stages - but I have a feeling their GC hopes will be more or less gone before they make it out of Denmark.
