The Tour of Japan contains 5 criterium races of which 3 are really hilly and should suit the puncheurs a lot and 2 time trials: A short prologue and a hard mountain time trial on Mt Fuji.
So a mixture of puncheur and climber might be favored for this race as pure climbers might lose time on the hilly stages and pure puncheurs can lose a lot on Mt Fuji.
John Gadret
The France is the top favourite here especially after looking at his squad. Moreno, Veloso and Moinard could all take a top 5 here, too. So surely the strongest squad.
Not to forget Sonnery, who might have less problems to pass the hills to grab a stage win as he might be one of the fast men here.
De La Fuente & Koldo Gil
Team Bianchi sends a dangerous mix of two great stage racers into this race. Surely they hope for a podium here.
John Augustyn
The South African is one of the strongest here but with a bit less support than first named. Nevertheless he will aim for a great result here.
Fredrik Kessiakoff
The Swede will be on his own on most hilly stages, but with his skills he might bring Team WWE some points.
Lloyd, Sano, Dao
In their home race the motivation you can almost feel their extra motivation. Especially the Japanese will try to present theirselves here but also Australian Lloyd can compete well here.
Not to forget home star and National champion Arashiro, who will try to win a stage.
Przemyslaw Nimiec
Seeing that there are two time trials you must name Nimiec as one of the favourites as he is clearly the best time trialist of all climbers. On the other hand the prologue is very short and the pure climbers might have advantages on Mt Fuji.
Puncheurs with a kick for a stage win and with a good ride also a nice overall are Froome, Ben Nasser and Costa.

Hoping for Bobridge to do well in the opening ITT.. these hilly criteriums can become a real "massacre", we can expect some succesful breakaways there I don't know if the mountain-timetrial will be decisive for the Final GC, but it looks quite "fun", at least for the fans!

Hoping for a decent stage result or two from Niemiec, since I think he'll struggle on stage two, four and six with his low hill stat.
Still, in case he stays somewhat in contact with the other favourites on those stages, then a Top 10 / 5 overall shouldn't be impossible. Especially considering the much weaker field than I had expected.
EDIT: Mount Fuji is a road stage, isn't it?

I want results! Win will be hard, but top ten seems doable.

I added this to my story, so I have some experience with the results, however that was on PCM 10, so it may be a little different.
I think my squad is probably the best I could have made it, for all around purposes, and I wasn't too sure how strong the nationality bonus would be, so I put in Lloyd to hopefully achieve the team goals I set.
Unfortunately John Gadret is here.

A sharp attack with a strong climber on fuji, can actually eliminate 60-100 riders due to time limits

I haven`t played the Fuji stage yet. Still waiting for SN`s response if it is supposed to be a time trial as it is in the DB at the moment or a real 11km race like most of you say.
Nevertheless the first stage might be up tomorrow or on Saturday. |

Well and truly here to get something from a break or KOM....the AI no doubt will choose Balloni as the go to guy.... |

To clarify, Fuji is a TT for Man-Game purposes - as it always has been in previous years.
The reason is, while an 11km road race would appear to be exciting, in PCM-reality, the AI just cant handle it and nothing much tends to happen, so it has to be a TT in order for the stage to create the gaps it is intended to do - results on the stage will be definately based around Mountain stat, rather than TT.
Sorry if that wasnt made clear in the race profiles thread. Had anybody asked, Id have always said it was a TT.

To be fair, I thought it was obvious that it would be a TT. |

Looking for a big performance from the team here, nothing less than a win is satisfactory.. though the usual three high placings on GC would be welcome also.
Perversely I am encouraged by a relatively big field that may well make breaks easier to control as other teams may help us out. Meiji and Oz Cycling for example have some good sprinters.
Gogogogo Gadret!

Got no expectations for this race, though I hope my riders will be visible in breakaways.

I hope de la Fuente will take at least the 2nd place on the podium as this was a race where I thought it won't be cracking hard for him to be on the podium because of the popularity of the race in the previous seasons (1st partipiciation for my team though)
He should win at least one of the hilly stages (without knowing Gadrets stats) and should minimize the lost time on the mountain ITT to Gadret

Smowz have been good at choosing races for Gadret, I considered this race, but couldn't fit it in ;-) Good luck to everyone participating

I've really been looking forward to this one. Red Bull will have the favorites tag, so I'm tipping Kairellis to look for a sneaky breakaway stage win or two.

Well done, Bobridge Top-5 is a nice stage-result for Oz Cycling here.. it's one of our target-races, so please, Bobo, get us some more decent days like this!

Excellent reporting from pcm daily's finest member
3 piccies of my guys and we only finished 9th! I guess the serious business starts on stage 2 as the war of attrition starts in earnest. If memory serves me correct this circuit for stage 2 isn't the toughest but a punchaer could well nip away.
