Strade Bianche Discussion

We hit gravel today and this race is always harder and more selective than it looks, and with a strong line up here, who knows who will win.

The favourite is easy to pick though, as Ginanni should be nigh unbeatable in Italy, even if this hasn't been the case in the past

There are no real Italian Challengers for him so we have to look overseas and that shows real strength in depth, with Roche, Sanchez Gonzalez, Monfort, Kolobnev and Vanendert all preparing to challenge. This all said, we can't rule out a breakaway making it if a few strong riders get away early.

Wrote 1 on the wrong rider on the planner, so Vigano ended up riding here instead of Di Maggio. Agnoli therefore will be my captain here, and pretty much every result is acceptable. Hope to get some TV-time in the break aswell.

Lucky you guys, Flügel aint here, someone else could win this one (A)

hehe, anyone else than Ginanni winning would be a shock, so I root for, hmmmm, Kolobnev, since I feel sorry for Tinkoff after Ignatiev falling in Algarve

Come on Vanendert! Time for your first good result of the season!

My moneyis on Ginanni, but it should be a fantastic race with a profile like that.

The Management-Game Gazzette Issue #9

The first classic in the C1 calendar in March is one of the most spectacular ones, and takes the CT peloton through some gravel roads in the region of Tuscany, Italy. We're obviously talking about Strade Bianche a well established race which has been downgraded this year to the Continental Tour, which nevertheless we hope won't make it any less appealing. To help previewing it, we have recruited one of the most promising managers of the Continental Division, Rin, Team Bianchi's main responsible:

Q. This race has your team's name literally written over it. What chances do you think you'll have here?
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/bianchi.png It's a race we want to win and the chances have to be very good with Claeys, Monfort and Rabon riding there.

Q. You have previously announced that your sponsors have required a top5 placing in this race. Is it possible that that may put some additional pressure on your leaders and interfere with your objective?
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/bianchi.png There maybe additional pressure because of the announced goals before the season, but I think Claeys tends to be better under pressure and he wants his first win ever and if it would be the Strade Bianche.. I guess he will be very motivated.

Q. In the past this race has been won by the heroes of cobbled races, however this time the gravel sectors are said to be much less decisive. What impact do you think that will bring to the race?
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/bianchi.png I think it won't be decisive, but it will be more difficult to drive on the gravel then on the roads obviously. It gives the race a more different rating, as the scenery is more beautiful and with the gravel it adds some different note to the calendar.

Q. Team Bianchi has been tipped as one of the main contenders for the promotion battle this season. How do you rate your chances now, with two months of racing already done?
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/bianchi.png The first two months were a bit disappointing, I thought it would be a great start to put the hammer on the rankings. But we raced a lot already and teams are infront of us who raced less amount of races.. I think we are the team at the moment, that raced the most amount of races so far. Thats not good rankingwise.

Hopefully Salerno's nationality bonus will have a positive effect. Any result will do.

I had hoped for a weaker line-up, Wegmann should be strong enough for the Top10. Maybe a break with one of my riders can fight for the win, wouldn´t be the first time this seasonWink

First race in Italy, it's important that Roche and co. will perform well on home-soil though it will be hard to beat Ginnani.

Smowz
Mistakes made by me on the planner front here, I should certainly have bought guys like Mori and Cherel.

They would have been decent top 10 shouts but I don't think I could have done too much against a pretty decent level of competition. Vespa and Bianchi have got their A game here!

I don't really see how it will be that hard to beat Ginanni. I would love to win, but it would definitely come as a surprise if he did actually manage to win. Pfft

I fully expect the usual ManGame dose of feeling p'ssed off after the race. Sad

I guess riders like Wegmann could surprise everyone.
It will be hard to gap him on the pretty easy hills. And then he is the fastest.
Never played the race in PCM11 but in PCM10 it was pretty much a sprint of 50 riders.

Just noticed, is Ben Hermans in both this and Algarve? Aint they crashing, seems so in the race profile page for this race? Or am I mistaken?

Kami
The amount of breaks making it is just becoming unrealistic. In stage races, it's normal (sometimes, P-N Stage 1 wasn't imo), but in classics ... The break even almost made the end in Milan-San Remo.

Yeah, but because it wasn't mentioned on the race planner, was only noticed after I had raced Strade and because Hermans only came 25th, SN decided to let it slide.
