The final stage!
So much to play for! Can time be gained on the hills at all, or will it come down to the time bonuses of 20, 12 and 8?
7 seconds between Rodas and Alarcon for 1st
28 seconds between Castano and Ratiy for 3rd
1 second between Nazaret, Lloret and Parra Bustamente for 5th - with Eastman only 28 seconds later
Plus countless other close battles
And then theres the stage win. No huge standout rider in the hills, but if it comes to a sprint, Matteo Carrara must be well tipped.
A breakaway goes clear early on. and Carrara is actually in it! Pantano Gomez, Girardi, Peterson and Martins are also here.
(Report will continue over multiple posts)

With Carrara and Peterson powering the front group, its hard for these new attackers to catch up, but on the 5th lap, they do so.
68km to go, 5'45 lead

Its Txurruka leading the peloton - on orders from WWE no doubt, teams classification wise
But Jeannesson and Evans attack again. 38km to go, the break are 3 minutes ahead.

Pace is too high though, it fails again. So Niemiec now attacks, having slipped to 14th overall yesterday

All these attacks are putting pressure on the breakaway, at this rate, it seems likely to be caught. Having risked a stage win on this break though, Carrara isnt giving up easily and continues to push the pace on the climb - splitting the break

Americans Peterson and Lewis are able to stick with Carrara - Lewis will have hoped at least 3 of the break to stay away to take away bonus seconds from Alarcon, thus supporting teammate Rodas. But its seems its a case of Carrara vs USA, as the Americans now attack away!

Update on Carrara vs USA then. An angry Carrara rejoined Lewis and Peterson ... and dropped them

With Lewis here for Rodas, is this the start of something? Nobody expected Rodas to be the one attacking Alarcon!
But, 1 kilometre later, caught. Carrara leads by 40 seconds

Just over 11km to go. Carrara sure knows how to fight. The peloton are quick, Carrara is quicker. 50 seconds.
