So as usual, the end of one season opens up the application process for new members to join in the game and take on a brand new Continental team, building it up from scratch. I dont know how many new teams there will be, but there will definately be a few.
Firstly, take a read of the new FAQ and please ask here any questions that you have?
Joining the Management Game is a commitment - you'll be expected to be active enough in the off-season, where the bulk of the manager work takes place - but also then remain active through the year as the season progresses, commenting on race discussion threads as you follow your team in action. And as Im sure the current managers would tell you, any effort is worth it - it's good fun!
So if you are going to apply, please do so with the intention of staying involved. Theres nothing worse for the game than inactive managers, inparticular inactive managers who are new to the game.
You can either apply by posting in this thread, or PMing me. But its not simply listing your name, we need something to help us judge candidates, and to get you to start thinking about the game and planning for the scenario that you do get in. So please answer the following questions in applying:
Why do you want to apply?
How do we know that you will be active?
How would you intend to manage a team, if you get one?
As well as anything else you feel might be relevant for us to know.
Good luck!

Well last season the off-season took about 2 months in total, so potentially May. It might end up being later depending on exam commitments on my part, or for those who help with the running of the game.

So, I have read the rules, and I have a few questions.
This seems very confusing. Does it take a lot of time to get to know the system?
How long does it take to complete a season?
How would you intend to manage a team, if you get one? you list this as an app. question, but I am not sure I get the question. Exactly what do you mean? |

Ok.
I want to apply to get a team in the management game. I understand that it's a big commitment, and everything, but I see it as a sort of challenge and I really want to have a go.
How do you know I'll be active? I know that I disappeared for a while, but that was due to computer issues, and now everything is fixed and my exams are over so I intend to be more active.
I would manage my team to the best of my abilty, should I be selected. My team would aim to develop young talent, but also would have a few older, more experienced riders, similar to HTC-Highroad, at the moment. I would also look to have riders as domestiques who can be developed into leaders.
I know I have a poor past record, and I have been known to wind up the admins, but I've learned from that and grown up a bit, so please, don't judge me for what happened before.
Any Questions? |

Everything is explained as well as possible when we get to that point, and youre always free to ask questions - so I dont think it takes too long to get used to it.
Season lengths vary, but the last couple have taken roughly a year each.
For the third team, jph has the right sort of idea. Basically, we want prospective managers to think about factors such as - What nationality/sponsors would you choose for your team, - What races you would want your team to be good at, - What type of rider you might try to get.
If you get in, youre free to do change your mind from what you put here, of course - but at least it means youll already have started planning.

Okay, thanks SN. Well, I'll try to apply then
Why do you want to apply? It seems like great fun. I like these sorts of fantasy games, and really want to take part in one.
How do we know that you will be active?I guess you don't know. All I have is my word that I'll be comitted to the game. I know that I am not the guy with the most posts on here, but you'll just have to trust, that I will be around for the game.
How would you intend to manage a team, if you get one?I like the puncheur type riders and cobbled classics. So I would try to have a very varied range of riders, combined with a lot of young guys. |

Why do you want to apply?
I always like it to play PCM with my own fantasy teams. Doing it with real people together would be real fun for me.
How do we know that you will be active?
I'm active here for a long time and I don't think that will change. I'll take a look at PCM Daily every day. As PCM Benelux admin I need to be active as well in the PCM communities. I'm really not planning to stop as an admin over there. I'm not the guy to quit from one day to the other.
How would you intend to manage a team, if you get one?
Would like to have a team with climbers (like Euskaltel) and maybe with a few attackers for the flatter stages. Don't want a sprinter.

May as well give this a go, not that I'm overly hopeful of getting in considering my somewhat low activity to date. Would be absolutely great tho'.
Why do you want to apply?
Well, whilst I haven't exactly been overly active in terms of post count on these forums considering the length of time I've been signed up here, I have always followed the management game with upmost intrigue. I think it looks absolutely fun, as well as a chance to really test one's knowledge and understanding of the sport and game.
Also, since coming to university, I'm using a laptop which can't handle PCM, so I am without the game. Being part of the man-game would help fill that little gap. I've tried other fantasy games, but they've all been somewhat lacking in terms of interaction.
How do we know that you will be active?
Well, I'm a student at the moment, and whilst that might make it seem as though I will be busy all the time, in actuality it simply means I spend a lot of time on the computer; Since getting back into shirt making, I've logged on to the forums several times a day, and read any graphic-related posts, as well as the man game updates. Other than that, I can only offer my word that I will remain committed, especially as I know how lucky i'd be if I were to be accepted as a new manager.
How would you intend to manage a team, if you get one.
It's quite difficult to answer this, considering things might not go as intended throughout the transfers and signings. However, ideally, I would strive to produce a team, more orientated to flatter races, with a focus on a strong sprint train. Of course, it would be flavoured with a few pure climbers or, if there are any left, semi-decent stage racers. I wouldn't aim for any massive names though, as I'd assume that'd be difficult to manage with so many accomplished teams in competition. Naturally, as a brit, I would want to make it british-orientated, but with a couple of british teams in circulation, I understand riders might be scarce; So, it would likely have no real national focus, instead being an international team, with more focus on talent, or young promise, than a riders birth nationality.
So, this kinda turned into a text wall... Sorry about that |

Tbh, your "text wall" is what should be used as an example for everyone ANFreeman ;-) I liked it :-p (Then again, I'm not near being the one who decides who will join :-p)

That's relieving to hear that, haha. I know a lot of people can be put off by too much text; but I figured, if I'm going to commit to something like this, then spending some extra time typing a little more is only beneficial.
Also, this might seem a touch over eager, but do we know how many open slots there are this season? Judging by the Teams HQ thread, it seems there's quite a few managers that have gone awol... |

Well, the PT has to filled to 20 teams. But the Continental division doesn't really need a vast number of teams in it, so it will all depend on the quality of the applicants. The division could become smaller, but could as well expand to more teams.

Why do you want to apply?
Unfortunately I already missed the begin of the last season, so I was looking forward to the next chance the whole year. As I like to read all the stories here I also read the management game reports. I think this game brings PCM on a new level as you have to do a lot of planning and at the same time do it on your own and with other guys of the community.
How do we know that you will be active?
Since I became an admin I was active very regulary and also before. I also don`t see my Garmin story at an end and will have much more to write what makes me check PcmDaily almost every day. I don`t see this regularity ending in the next year.
How would you intend to manage a team, if you get one.
I would like to have a team of young and experienced riders. As my sponsor I would also like to have many German riders but also of some other nations around Germany (Netherlands, Belgium, Suisse, Austria...)
The aim is to surprise with my talents and get some nice results in smaller races. This is also what I am focussing the most. One day classics and one week races.
The team should be quite even with sprinters and puncheurs. Great climbers would be nice but not sure if possible in the first season |

Well, it`s not totally a German team as there are also supposed to have some international riders in it.
But some Germans are definitely appreciated |

Theres plenty of Germans in the DB - and many who once developed, can be fairly useful, but to get hold of the better ones available, there may well be quite a battle - loads of teams seem to want to be German!

Why do you want to apply?
Management game looks very interesting to me. I was reading race reports and I liked it. It lets you to create your own team. This is great. I always wanted to have my own team and I can compete with others here, wchich is a great thing. It seems to me like a nice fun.
How do we know that you will be active?
Unfortunately, I can't prove that I will be active. You have to believe me. I have much free time and I can spend some of it on playing management game. I won't quit fast, you just have to trust me.
How would you intend to manage a team, if you get one?
I will do my best. i would like to have a team with a few young, talented riders. I would like to have a team for classic races. However, it would be nice to have some climbers too. Most important thing for me is to have many riders from country of my team's main sponsor. I think this is really important thing in cycling and it brings more reality to management game. I wouldn't like to have old riders. It's better to me to bulid a team for future. this is a better fun to create your team from young, talented riders and if you accept my application I will try to do this. |
