Despite being relegated to CTour status the Tour of Austria retains it popularity and its challenges.

Stage two's mountain top finish on the Kitzbuhler Horn is a highly prized stage victory and could set up victory in this race. However the Glossglockner midway through stage three will create some interest, as will the stage seven Time Trial.

Some of the best stage racers in the CTour are here:

No Ikea here in this one, really hands the opputunity to other stage racing squads like UBS, Santander, Bimbo Nutella and Benfica who all have decent candidates in Perez Sanchez, Abal, Camano and Van den Broeck. However they will have to work out how to stop Jose Serpa (Pirelli) the outstanding favourite. He has a really strong climbing squad around him, and will be a tough nut to crack.

Telenor's Thomas Rohregger will be desperate to do well in his home tour, whilst Tinkoff have been quietly getting good results and Evgeni Petrov is a good shout. Watch out for Falcon's Theo Eltink as well, he has shown that he can live with some of the best climbers around.

There are five stages that are rated as flat (non TT) and that has encouraged some fine sprinting competition. Unicredit lack a credible GC man but Napolitano is a strong sprinter, though Guarnieri (Falcon), Trusov (Tinkoff), Sabido (Bimbo), Richeze (UBS) and Galdos (Santander) represent some stiff competition.

Schedule:
I am hoping to get this thing started on Wednesday with stage 1.
Stage 2: Thursday (Kitzbuhler Horn)
Stage 3: Friday (Glossglockner)
Stages 4 and 5: Saturday
Stages 6 and 7: Sunday
Stage 8 and wrap up: Monday
Hope that is an acceptable schedule... in the meantime enjoy the conclusion to the Tour de Suisse and Tour of Slovenia Smile

I really hope Camano doesn't have any kind of bad luck and finishes with a Top5/Top10 because this is a important team goal Pfft

I really belive Rohregger can do well on home turf, and with my recent string og luck / good results I got high hopes Grin

It´s going to be interesting to see if Eltink can take a good GC place although there is a quite long TT. And Guarnieri maybe can get some good stages places. Will be a fun race!

rycadinho
Time for the first win for the team - overall that is..

Serpa will need around a minute to Abal before that time trial.

viking90
hmm a little disorganized final sprint there, to bad Guarnieri wasn´t up there on the last sprint before finish line. But he will get some more chances to take make a good result.

5th by Siedler, better than expected from him so I can't complain. I feel my luck has turned, that means Rohregger wins, infront of Pfannberger and Noval Grin Sorry guys :-p

viking90
The climb was a little too long for Eltink. Not good, hope he can take back some lost time on the next stage and then Guarnieri can take some good places!
Good report! Time to go to bed, sleep well!

Top5 by Camano and not Camino ( Pfft ) would be just great.

I noticed I was doing this halfway through the race, just think of me as an absent minded Eurosport commentator.

Hehe I thought as well who that Camino guy was. Didn't remember seeing him in the DB :-)

Haha, good way to put it. Nice way to add realism to the reports!

It does rather defy belief that Abal can be doing so badly here, having recently finished in the Vuelta Top 10

yeah, had Abal not lost a minute in the flat stages he would have come second. For him to have come no where near winning a stage race in the CT is embarrassing after that.

hmm, 7th in the GC with only TT stage(?) left to do something at , but with Eltink TT´s stat he will not gain time to anyone at all. Now it´s up to Guarnieri to get some points from this race.

rycadinho
Ooooh it will be close on that final timetrial...I hope Serpa will perform a timetrial like he did in Trentino. Good work by the team again.

Heine
Thats better Rohregger, I can live with 6th
