Previous winners 2010: Matteo Carrara (Olympus AirAsia)
Malaysia's other showcase stage race is back and Carrara is here with a useful Petronas squad to defend his crown. He is in for a challenge as IKEA's MT Hood Classic champion Jose Alarcon is here. He will be looking for some sort of payback after a nasty crash on the last stage robbed him of 2nd place at the HC Langkawi race.
Carrara could only come 9th there and ahead of him in that race were Lopez Garcia (Santander) and Stetina (Mercedes) are also here leading their squads GC challange. The other two names worth mentioning are UBS' Perez Sanchez and Bimbo Nutella's Kenyan climber Samwel who should be challenging for honours on the queen stage.
With the exception of the that queen stage, the parcours are brutelly flat and a number of sprinters are here to take advantage of that. Griepal (Bbox), Richeze (UBS), Van Avermart (Bimbo Nutella), Mohs (Pokerstars), Loddo (Pirelli), Galdos (Santander) and Crocket (Petronas) just to name a few.

Time to start praying for some good spriting results. Some of this stages should be flat enough for Brown

It's up to Loddo and Ryder to get points to the team in Malaysia - top 10 in the GC should be the minimum target for Hesjedal.

Its interesting the differing types of teams sent here. I reasoned that it was bit too low yield to send just a squad of climbers here, so I sent a mixture of one decent climber and one helper with a couple of goodish sprinters and some youngsters.
Others seem to have focussed on one aspect or another. I must admit there does seem to be a huge field here. |

Quite a lot of sprinters where affected by that last hill, Gavazzi included. Fortunately no such excuses on other days! |

Atleast my riders are trying to form a train, but they should consider adding 2 riders more... Say Klier and Guldhammer to take the wind before Sabatini launches Brown. Anyway, a good try :-p

Nice riding by Dviri (it's pronounced as spelled by the way, that is a phonetic spelling). |

Of course he did even better on stage two!

But I don't get how to say a D and a V together is it 'viri' or 'daviri' or 'D-viri'. Ptth having a moment with that one.
Heine: of course they never ever form a train of more than two! |

These nasty rotters the organiser do have a nasty habit of putting at least one stage guys like Mohs cannot completly dominate! Don't blame me, maybe you can petetion SN to get all Mountain stages removed from CT's next year! I mean some of the poor saps in the CT can barely get over a speed bump let alone the Genting Highlands.

I regret buying him to be honest :-p But nothing I can do about that now. To my defence though, I was in China at that time and could not watch the db, so I worked from a mail sent to myself and some help from SportingNonsense, so I overpaid some riders and should've been willing to give more for others. Hopefully next transfer period will be better. (one example on overpaying is that I decided I wanted Kessiakoff no matter what :-p)

Heine: Its always nice to see your riders try something, even if it fails utterly. On that stage I saw my two ride from a great position they just went backwards. The dark arts of what makes a great leadout man remain just that dark arts.
Regarding your team, I think you did a pretty good job in transfer season. Its a nice team Vaitkus is a difficult one to get the best out of reminds me of Steegmans and Van Avermart really - not quite good enough on cobbles and not really good value for a sprinter. |
