And with that quote by H. G. Wells both sides knew it was time to stop.
There was no end in sight and an amnesty was really the only option.
17 years of high tensions and virtually bloodshed. For what?
Nothing. A standoff that threatened to the end the world with nuclear missiles ended with rich men in suits shaking hands and going their separate ways.
It was over. Not as long as the Cold War but essentially had the same effect.
No full-scale combat but two sides that threaten to end the others existence.
The  Americans who went bankrupt and watched their economy crash
against the  French who demanded and swindled to get their money back.
They say money makes the world go around, but here it stopped it completely.
Once the French made the first move every country in Europe was at the
United States' doorstep wanting their investments back. Resulting in
the whole global economy collapsing and war being declared.
But, here we are: January 20, 2034. Peace restored. Life goes on.
It's time to pick up the pieces of a world destroyed, and create a new one.
A better one... for The Two of Us.
