Australian National Championships
The new season gets underway at the Australian Road Championships. This is the Team's second season in the peleton, but this will be our first official race as Bianchi Factory Team.
Damien Howson will be the team's only rider in the ITT, whilst Ewan and Earle will target the Road Race.

Australian TT Championships

Being the only Australian TT specialist in the team, Damien Howson will be our only entrant in the search for the Green & Gold Jersey.

Cameron Meyer (OGE) was one of the early contenders to hit the course, and looked like he had some good early season form, posting a quick time -- 1h01'54
Jack Bobridge (OGE) was the next big rider to hit the course, but couldn't beat Meyer as he faded at the finish -- 1h02'07
Cadel Evans (BMC) is now in the twilight of his career, but could still be a threat for the Podium. Sadly, it was not his day, as he would finish 12th -- 1h03'17
Brett Lancaster (CAN) was hoping to start life in a new team with a good performance, and finished 9th -- 1h03'01
Damien was hoping for a good performance, knowing he was not in the best early season form. He did well, and just crept into the Top 10 -- 1h03'13
Like Evans, Michael Rogers (TST) is getting towards the twilight of his career, but he was able to put in a fine ride -- 1h02'23
Luke Durbridge (OGE) was another Orica rider who could take the victory today, but like many others before him, he was unable to better the time of Meyer -- 1h02'15
Only two riders remained who could topple the early time set by Meyer. Richie Porte (SKY) was first, but he would just fall short -- 1h02'04
Defending Champion Rohan Dennis (GRS) was the final man on the course, and despite a hard, fast ride, he was also unable to better the time of Meyer -- 1h02'04

Jeremy Vennell (BPC) was the first major TT specialist to hit the flat course, setting the provisional best time -- 57'46
Jack Bauer (GRS) was the next big name out on course, comfortably beating Vennell's time -- 56'57
Bewley was looking good out on the course, but slowly faded towards the finish. He would finish 7" down on Bauer -- 57'04
Jesse Sergent (RLT) was the Defending Champion and proved that he is Time Trialing force in New Zealand. He would smash the time of Bauer, taking the Title for 2014 -- 56'29

Santos Tour Down Under Wildcard announced
Newly-relegated Orica-GreenEdge have been awarded the sole Wildcard Entry to the forthcoming WorldTour season opener, the Santos Tour Down Under.
A total of 6 teams, including Bianchi Factory Team, submitted applications for the race, with the organisers favouring the Australian ProContinental Team in their decision.

Australian RR Championships

Last year, it was this very race which gave the team its first podium of the season with Nathan Earle.
Nathan is back this year, on a more difficult route than 2013. Damien Howson will be domestique during the race, whilst Caleb Ewan will ride in a free role.

Best Result: 2013 - Nathan Earle (3rd)
A group of 8 riders attacked on the first climb of the day, forming the break of the day. Caleb was present, along with Clarke (ARG), Cantwell (TST) and Dempster (BAU) to name the big names.
With a big group off the front, Drapac suddenly realised that they did not have a rider present, as Grenda attacked.
Orica-GreenEdge took over the early control of the peleton, as the break's lead grew to over 7 minutes.
The action stayed as it was, until 24km to go, Porte (SKY), Evans (BMC) and Gerrans (OGE) attacked.
At the front, Caleb upped his pace, dropping the rest of his breakaway companions.
At the top of the final climb, Gerrans, Evans and Rogers (TST) bridged to Ewan and it was looking like the winner would come one of these guys.
Gerrans wasn't wanting to take any of the riders to the finish, and attacked. Behind, the others looked at each other to chase...
... And Gerrans takes the win! Behind him, Rogers took second, and Evans just held off a tired Caleb for 3rd.

After his Podium in the ITT, Sam will be wanting to target a high finish in the Road Race. With a small peleton and no real dominating team, attack may be the best plan of attack.

As planned, Bewley attacked over the top of the first climb on the stage, with counters behind coming from Vennell (BPC) and Scully (RAL).
String winds out on the course caused echelons to form in the peleton behind, and soon it was split in two. It was going to be a tough day in the saddle.
The trio off the front worked well together, and with half of the race remaining, their lead was over 15 minutes.
WOW! There is life in the peleton? Jesse Sargent (RTL) was unhappy with the lack of chase, and he attacked just to add some 'excitement' to the race.
It was clear from moment that the peleton stopped riding, that the winner would come from the breakaway. With 10km to go, Sam throw caution to the wind, and attacked for the win.
Bewley is the Champion! He time trials to the finish, with Vennell and Scully unable to catch him behind. Sargent would finish 13'31 down on the podium after his attack, with Henderson (MOV) winning the sprint of the 'peleton', as only 10 riders would finish the race.
