Post Danmark Rundt
31st July - 5th August 2013

i283.photobucket.com/albums/kk310/snoep_de_hond/logos/RacePostDanmarkRundt.png

The team end the month of July, and start August in Denmark at the PostDanmark Rundt. A flat stage race, with a Time Trial on stage 5, the Overall Classification is normally decided by a strong Time Trialist or the Bonus Seconds from the stage finishes.

With that in mind, we come to Denmark with both bases covered. Sadly Caleb Ewan is missing through injury, but Rene Mandri will be his replacement. Philip Lavery will work as his lead-out man, and the sprint train is completed by Owain Doull and Damien Howson.

Howson, along with local man Rasmus Quaade, will be the ones who target the Time Trial on stage 5.

Fredrik Ludvigsson will play a few role, targeting the breaks and overall KoM jersey.

Dan Lloyd and Trent Lowe complete the team, and will work as domestiques.

PostDanmark Rundt
Esbjerg-Ejsberg -- 174.6km

i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa348/the_hoyle86/Rapha-Bianchi/PCM0001_zps52b1e933.jpg

Stage one in Denmark, and it looks set to end in a mass sprint. Completely flat all day, with not even enough of a rise to have a KoM classified sprint.

Setting the finish up for Rene will be the plan for the stage, as well as looking to get Ludvigsson into the day's break, to help relive the pressure on the team.

A Top 5 finish will be the stage target.

Race Report

i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa348/the_hoyle86/Rapha-Bianchi/PCM0005_zps6da94a6b.jpg

Wanting to make sure he was part of the break, Ludvigsson attacked as soon as the flag dropped.

i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa348/the_hoyle86/Rapha-Bianchi/PCM0006_zps58526051.jpg

After 23km of riding on his own, Fredrik was finally joined by Ramon Carretero (VIN), and the pair worked well to build a good lead of over 7 minutes.

Intermediate Sprint -- 66km
1. R. Carretero // 2. F. Ludvigsson // 3. D. Napolitano

i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa348/the_hoyle86/Rapha-Bianchi/PCM0007_zps09fc36e5.jpg

AG2R took the control of the peleton, and with help from Accent Jobs, the gap to the break began to decrease very quickly.

Intermediate Sprint -- 124km
1. F. Ludvigsson // 2. R. Carretero // 3. D. Napolitano

i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa348/the_hoyle86/Rapha-Bianchi/PCM0010_zpsc8743a21.jpg

Carretero and Ludvigsson were caught by the peleton with 17km to go, and it looked set to end in bunch sprint.

i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa348/the_hoyle86/Rapha-Bianchi/PCM0011_zpsb9bbdfe8.jpg

The lead out trains formed, and we looked to be strongest and most organised in the run to the finish. Could we take the win on stage 1?

i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa348/the_hoyle86/Rapha-Bianchi/PCM0013_zps10fbafb3.jpg

As the sprint begins, Lavery and Mandri are swamped in the lead out, and suddenly look boxed in. Kevyn Ista (IAM) is the man who finds the prefect gap and sprints to the victory. Adam Blythe (BMC) and Danilo Napolitano (AJW) complete the podium, as Rene comes home 6th.

Rapha-Bianchi sign Canadian Stagiaire

Rapha-Bianchi Racing Team today announced the signing of their 2014 neo-pro, in form of Henri St-Pierre.

A 22 year old Canadian climber, St-Pierre has had great success in the amateur ranks, where he currently leads the Under 23 Ranking table.

Phil Hoyle had targeted two other riders, Oscar Ryan and Mathias Audet, earlier in the season, but both riders opted not to join the Anglo-Italian squad after months of sponsorship and support.

St-Pierre will sign as a stagiaire for the remains of the season before joining on a full time basis in January.

@voets: If he can have a first year like Adam Yates, then he will be a great success Smile

@admir: it was my own scouting of the under 23 results who found him. The scouts just confirmed that he was worth signing Wink

Good first stage for Mandri in Denmark Smile and St-Pierre looks like a good rider for the future Wink

i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa348/the_hoyle86/Rapha-Bianchi/PCM0014_zps99949fc5.jpg

Stage two looks like a copy of stage 1. Flat all day, with the occasional lump which have somehow been classified as KoM sprints.

The work will be for Mandri, as he hopes to improve on his 6th place from the first stage. Depending on how his legs are feeling, Fredrik will get his quest for the KoM jersey underway today.

Top 5 will be the aim again.

Race Report

i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa348/the_hoyle86/Rapha-Bianchi/PCM0002_zps969576be.jpg

All attacks at the start of the stage were eliminated by IAM Cycling, as the peleton approached the first Intermediate Sprint all together.

i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa348/the_hoyle86/Rapha-Bianchi/PCM0004_zps3b6acadc.jpg

The day's break finally formed after the Intermediate Sprint, as Erviti (MOV) and Tossato (TST) attacked off the front.

i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa348/the_hoyle86/Rapha-Bianchi/PCM0005_zpsbf831e88.jpg

The gap grew to over 3 minutes, as Dennis Vanendert (LTB) tried to join the pair in the lead on the road.

i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa348/the_hoyle86/Rapha-Bianchi/PCM0006_zps8ba7e637.jpg

The peleton upped their pace, as the gap to the break reached over 5 minutes, and it was clear that the sprinters wanted this to end in a mass sprint.

i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa348/the_hoyle86/Rapha-Bianchi/PCM0009_zps408b7af8.jpg

IAM Cycling applied the pressure on the front, and soon the gap was down to less than a minute approaching the final KoM sprint. This will be a mass sprint finish.

In the run to the finish, Orica-GreenEdge looked like they have the best organisation, as Beppu led out Impey. Lavery and Mandri were nowhere to be seen at the front.

i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa348/the_hoyle86/Rapha-Bianchi/PCM0012_zps65c3a3de.jpg

And Impey takes a comfortable victory. The South African was unchallenged in the sprint to the line, as the rest of the pack could not get themselves organised. Lavery was our best finisher, down in 18th, on a disappointing day for the team.

A quiet day in the saddle on stage 2, or the quiet before the storm as the saying goes Smile

Ã…rhus-Vejle -- 180.6km

i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa348/the_hoyle86/Rapha-Bianchi/PCM0015_zps2c2d5bbc.jpg

Stage 3 and despite being classified as flat, the steep, short climb to the finish should definitely rule out any pure sprinters.

The finish should favour Rene but he is lacking form so could struggle. Our main focus will be with Fredrik going for KoM classification. There are 3 classified climbs on the route, and with tomorrow's stage being the only other chance to score points, it will be important to start our quest today.

Race Report

i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa348/the_hoyle86/Rapha-Bianchi/PCM0001_zps33dea5a5.jpg

As planned, Fredrik attacked from the flag drop, and had Sergio Pardilla (MTN) for company.

i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa348/the_hoyle86/Rapha-Bianchi/PCM0003_zps3ceb2a32.jpg

AG2R and IAM cycling took the control of the peleton, but seemed happy to let the pair go off the front.

i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa348/the_hoyle86/Rapha-Bianchi/PCM0008_zps570b6a69.jpg

IAM comtinued to set the pace of the peleton, as the break's lead crept above the 5 minute mark.

Intermediate Sprint -- 48km

i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa348/the_hoyle86/Rapha-Bianchi/PCM0005_zps64002494.jpg

On the slightly more difficult KoM climb, it was thought that Pardilla would take maximum points, but Ludvigsson was tactically more aware. Back in the peleton, Doull was aware enough to attack and stop Tosatto from taking the final points again.

32km from the finish, the break down to less than 2 minutes. Pardilla panicked, attacking hard away from Fredrik. The young Swede couldn't go with him, just hoping to hold on until after the final KoM sprint.

Fredrik as brought back just over the top of the final KoM climb, and Pardilla was also back in the peleton shortly after. Orica-GreenEdge hit the front, in what was another badly organised lead-out for many other teams.

i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa348/the_hoyle86/Rapha-Bianchi/PCM0012_zps2d8b1d1c.jpg

Impey takes his second win in a row! Meersman (OPQ) just could not match the speed, as GreenEdge dominate the Top 5. Dan Lloyd put in a great ride for the team, finishing 8th.
