East Yorkshire Classic
19th July 2013

Only two rounds to go in the Premier Calendar, and it would appear that the rest of the teams are just playing for honour in the final rounds. We have comfortably won the Team Classification, and it would seem that British Cycling are rethinking the Points Format for next season. Been quite a few complaints from the others about our dominance...

Either way, we come here looking to add to the victory in the Grand Prix of Wales. Irish Champion Philip Lavery will lead the team in the sprints, where his lead-out will consist of Jonny Bellis, Simon Yates, Owain Doull and Rasmus Quaade.

Fredrik Ludvigsson will help with the early stages of the race, whilst Trent Lowe and Dan Lloyd will work as team domestiques.

Race Review

i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa348/the_hoyle86/Rapha-Bianchi/PCM0004_zps65c88a06.jpg

It was a large group of 8 riders who attacked off the front of the peleton at the start. No notable names in the break, but UK Youth and Rapha Condor were present.

i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa348/the_hoyle86/Rapha-Bianchi/PCM0005_zpse3af0a55.jpg

Jelly Belly and Raleigh took control of the peleton, clearly working for their leaders Fred Rodriguez and Graham Briggs. The break's gap peaked at 3'32".

i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa348/the_hoyle86/Rapha-Bianchi/PCM0007_zps74e30158.jpg

24km to go and the gap was down to 54". In an attempt to distrupt the Raleigh controlled peleton, attacks from riders went off the front of the peleton.

i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa348/the_hoyle86/Rapha-Bianchi/PCM0009_zpsb5e7993a.jpg

8km to go, and 1 rider remained from the day's break. Baldwin (BPC) had a 43" gap, but he was tiring fast.

i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa348/the_hoyle86/Rapha-Bianchi/PCM0010_zpsec98003c.jpg

The race ended in a mass sprint, with Benoit Drujon (BIG) took the win ahead of Sam Bennent (SKT) and Philip Lavery (RBR).

Le Tour de France
21st July 2013

blog.promocadeaux.com/wp-content/uploads//2013/06/visuel_tourfrance_2013.jpg

With all the Classifications up for grabs in the final week of the Tour de France, it was set to be an exciting period of racing.

Chris Froome will need to overturn a deficit of 1'56 if he is to become the second British Tour de France winner, whilst Andre Greipel will need to score Points at every sprint left in the race, and hope that Cavendish does not score at all in order to win Green.

Colombian National Champion Cayetano Sarmiento has all but secured the KoM jersey, but will need to be on his toes to make sure no one steals it from under his nose. Tejay van Garderen would require a disaster for him not to end the race with the White Jersey on his shoulders.

Rapha pair announce retirement

Rapha-Bianchi pair of Tom Southam and Daniel Lloyd have today announced that they will retire and hang up their wheels at the end of the season.

Both riders, who came out of semi-retirement to join the Anglo-Italian team, feel that they can no longer keep up with the pace of the Professional Peleton, and will look going into other roles within the sport.

Southam will become a Directeur Sportif with Rapha-Bianchi for the 2014 season, whilst Lloyd will start work as a full time commentator for Eurosport.

More signings for Rapha-Bianchi

Coming only a few days after two riders announced retirement at Rapha-Bianchi, the team's bosses were today showing off two new arrivals for the 2014 season, coming in the form of the Italian's Marco Canola and Marco Frapporti.

Both men, who are distinguished sprinters in their own right, will add to the squad's sprint train, working in a similar role to Philip Lavery. They will work as the final lead-out man in the bigger races, whilst being given their own chance to shine in the smaller races.

The latest signings are the 6th and 7th addition to the growing Rapha-Bianchi squad for next season, with Hoyle stating that he wants to add 2 more big names, as well as one Neo-Pro signing, before his squad is complete.

Ryedale GP
28th July 2013

The final round of the 2013 Premier Calendar, and the final chance for some teams to make an impression on the British Domestic circuit. The Team Classification is all wrapped up, and even if Rapha-Bianchi fail to score at Ryedale, we cannot be mathematically caught. The fight will be for 2nd and 3rd between Raleigh, UK Youth and Madison-Genesis.

Rene Mandri will be the team's focus in the sprints, with his lead-out team consisting of Philip Lavery, Owain Doull and Rasmus Quaade.

Linus Gerdemann will be the team's road captain, whilst Trent Lowe, Damien Howson and Dan Fleeman will work as Domestiques.

Dan Fleeman and Brennan Townshend (MGT) were the only two riders who attacked off the front of the peleton at the start of the race, making the two-man break of the day.

i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa348/the_hoyle86/Rapha-Bianchi/PCM0004_zpse3e9cc8e.jpg

Christina-Watches and AnPost-ChainReactions took the control of the peleton, as the break's lead peaked at a maximum 7'32.

i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa348/the_hoyle86/Rapha-Bianchi/PCM0005_zpsc77e150a.jpg

26km to go, and as the gap to the break fell below 1'00, Townshend attacked away from Fleeman. He would only last another 7km off the front before brought back as well.

Pieter Ghyllebert (SKT) would take the win in a bunch sprint, after their main sprinter Sam Bennett was unable to come around him on the tough finishing climb. Daniel Mestre (BIC) would complete the podium, with Rene Mandri finishing 4th.

Trofeo Matteotti
28th July 2013

www.improntalaquila.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/trofeo-matteotti.jpg

With one team finishing off the Premier Calendar in Ryedale, we have another team in Italy for the Trofeo Matteotti. Classed as flat stage by the organisers, it still looks like a very undulating circuit.

Caleb Ewan will be team's focus for the Sprint finish, hoping he might be in the similar form to what won him the Coppa Citta di Stresa back in March. His sprint train will be made up of Jonny Bellis, Dan Lloyd and Fredrik Ludvigsson.

Simon Yates will work for the team over the stage, whilst brother Adam and Remy Di Gregorio will ride in order to add some miles in their legs. Nathan Earle completes the squad, and will look at getting himself in the day's break.

A large of 9 rider made up the day's breakaway, with Kevin Seeldraeyers (AST) being the big name in the group. Earle was also present.

i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa348/the_hoyle86/Rapha-Bianchi/PCM0011_zpsad4fcf5e.jpg

Lampre and Bardani took the main control of the peleton, as the break's lead was limited to 3'42.

i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa348/the_hoyle86/Rapha-Bianchi/PCM0012_zpsb726b90e.jpg

2 laps to go on the circuit, and Sergey Chernetskiy (KAT) tried to bridge the gap to the break.

i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa348/the_hoyle86/Rapha-Bianchi/PCM0013_zps4f538e7f.jpg

The Katusha rider was soon brought back, and as soon as the break was also back in the peleton, Tiziano Dall'Antonia (CAN) made a bold attacking move, soon opening up a 56" gap.

i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa348/the_hoyle86/Rapha-Bianchi/PCM0014_zpsa3cee28c.jpg

The attack would turn out to be the winning move. Dall'Antonia comfortably took the victory, ahead of Marco Canola (BAR) and Mauro Finetto (FAR). Jonny Bellis would come home in 4th, but the finish would be marred by a bad crash involving Caleb Ewan.

Ewan out til September

Rapha-Bianchi Racing Team today confirmed that star sprinter Caleb Ewan will miss the month of August with a fractured kneecap.

The fast Australian rider fell in the closing stages of the Trofeo Matteotti, and the team's worst fears have been confirmed. Ewan was scheduled to lead the team in the sprints in PostDanmark Rundt, starting tomorrow, but instead will have to watch the race on television.

Phil Hoyle did not confirm who would be his replacement in Denmark.

Good ride from Bellis in Italy Wink, shame about Caleb's injury though Sad

@cycleman: my thoughts exactly when I saw the crash and Ewan's info bar disappear. Never a good sign when it is a forced retirement from a race.

@sutty: to say he was meant to lead out Ewan, he did well to step up and take 4th. Shame he is leaving, but when his future replacement takes 2nd, you can't complain Wink

July Review - WorldTour Results

www.topolinotech.com/success/asts/cyclingnews_logo.gif

Eventhough we still have to race the PostDanmark Rundt in July, I thought I would bring the monthly review in order not disrupt the reports.

Clasica San Sebastian
