Dunkerque: Stage 4

Stage 4: 8 rounds on a hilly circuit with two steep hills

i981.photobucket.com/albums/ae297/knockout37/Zwischenablage01_zps276ae195.png

*** Voeckler (EUC), Sithembile (SKY) ***
** Boasson Hagen (SKY), Verboven (EUS), Kakhi (CSS) **
* Zaugg (TST), Flecha (VCD), Roelandts (LTB), Gatto (VIN) *

175km: Verboven (EUS) is still in the first row for some photos when Lund attacks.

i981.photobucket.com/albums/ae297/knockout37/PCM0281_zpsd0286752.jpg

172km: Roth (CSS) has joined him. The gap quickly grows.

i981.photobucket.com/albums/ae297/knockout37/PCM0282_zps1307ccb1.jpg

163km: We have our 4-men Break of the Day: Lund, Roth, Rast (RLT) & Chainel (ALM).

i981.photobucket.com/albums/ae297/knockout37/PCM0284_zps7e5237fe.jpg

140km: Rastwins the first mountain sprint. With 6 more to follow it is likely that someone else as Kiendyz (CCC) than will lift the KoM jersey over his shoulders.

120km: Zingle (COF), Turgot (EUC) and Powers (BMC) have to see how they can get around of the crashed Verboven . Very bad luck after he showed an impressive form lately. Let's hope he is not seriously injured.

i981.photobucket.com/albums/ae297/knockout37/PCM0286_zpscddb1a02.jpg

119km: Lund wins M2.

97km: Roth wins M3. Chainel struggels but can get back on the following descent.

85km: Europcar and Champion support Lotto - Belisol in the peleton and they have reduced from 7'40'' to 6'30''.

i981.photobucket.com/albums/ae297/knockout37/PCM0287_zps8f5c9db0.jpg

75km: Chainel woms M4. All four in the group have won one mountain sprint now.

59km: The riders go into the last 1/3 of the race. 5 minutes behind there is the peleton with still 143 riders in it.

54km: A first split has occured. 29 riders are behind but no big names are belong them.

i981.photobucket.com/albums/ae297/knockout37/PCM0288_zpsf2daf41b.jpg

37km: Khamse Khamphan (EUC) crashed.

i981.photobucket.com/albums/ae297/knockout37/PCM0289_zpsb0ebb6ad.jpg

33km: Chainel wins M6 and Rast slips into the KoM lead.

30km: As the BotD has decent chances to fight for the stage win they should continue to fight for the win together. But Roth thinks he has better chances when he attack. Together with Lund he can distance Rast and Chainel

i981.photobucket.com/albums/ae297/knockout37/PCM0291_zps72085c73.jpg

28km: But Roth does not want to continue as a duo. He wants to go solo for the rest of the race. We will see if this is clever with the peleton only 3'16'' behind.

i981.photobucket.com/albums/ae297/knockout37/PCM0292_zps462ae922.jpg

27km: Gallopin (RLT) gives up the race. Rumours say that he crashed heavily but no camera can preve that.

24km: Roth really looks strong today. Look how he climbs up that hill:

i981.photobucket.com/albums/ae297/knockout37/PCM0293_zpsfa511601.jpg

22km: Garzelli (VIN) attacks with Voeckler (EUC) behind. Roelandts (LTB) does not trust his team mates and follows himself.

i981.photobucket.com/albums/ae297/knockout37/PCM0294_zps373e304d.jpg

21km: Kakhi (CSS), Rutkiewicz (CCC) and Rebellin (CCC) successfully bridged. Flecha (VCD) is only few seconds behind.

i981.photobucket.com/albums/ae297/knockout37/PCM0295_zpsaf1531ef.jpg

Sky has to work a bit behind with Thomas and Boasson Hagen for Sithembile (all SKY)

i981.photobucket.com/albums/ae297/knockout37/PCM0296_zps7744ae4c.jpg

Current Situation:

Roth
+20''
Rast
+24''
Lund, Chainel
+2'31''
Kakhi, Rebellin, Roelandts, Voeckler, Rutkiewicz, Garzelli, Flecha
+51''
peleton (113 riders)
...
+3'21''
...
Khamse Khamphan

18km: Hivert (SOJ), Kocjan (EUS) and Edet (COF) want to use the descent to push ahead.

i981.photobucket.com/albums/ae297/knockout37/PCM0299_zps6e8379c1.jpg

At the front Rast comes closer to Roth.

i981.photobucket.com/albums/ae297/knockout37/PCM0300_zps035e97e1.jpg

They have 2'50 to Rebellin, Voeckler & Kakhi who got rid of Roelandts, Flecha, Rutkiewicz & Garzelli.

i981.photobucket.com/albums/ae297/knockout37/PCM0301_zps08ff847d.jpg

16km: A bit behind Sky and Euskaltel try to pace to close the gap to Group Voeckler. Obviously, Verboven has regenerated from his earlier crash. Is still something possible?

i981.photobucket.com/albums/ae297/knockout37/PCM0302_zps1bcb062e.jpg

15km: Group Roelandts is splitted up, too. Roelandts is close to catch up to Group Voeckler (+25''Wink while Garzelli is between him and the next chasing group consisting of Hivert, Flecha and Rutkiewicz. Edet is stuck between this group and the peleton.

i981.photobucket.com/albums/ae297/knockout37/PCM0305_zps8a033f13.jpg

13km: Lund and Chainel are beaten while they can see how Roth opens up the gap to Rast again.

i981.photobucket.com/albums/ae297/knockout37/PCM0306_zpsc1eb207c.jpg

11km: It is time for Kenyan attacking: Sithembile (SKY) attacks with Bagdonas on his wheel. They quickly catch up to group Flecha.

i981.photobucket.com/albums/ae297/knockout37/PCM0307_zps976018e6.jpg

9km: Boasson Hagen sets a high pace and closes the gap to Sithembile and his companions.

i981.photobucket.com/albums/ae297/knockout37/PCM0308_zpsb09ed11b.jpg

8km: French attacks: Pal, Ladagagnous (both FDJ) & Hivert (SOJ)

i981.photobucket.com/albums/ae297/knockout37/PCM0309_zps5805cb77.jpg

6km: These attacks caused a new group to create. Here is a new overview over the situation:

Roth
+56''
Rast
+59''
Rebellin, Voeckler, Kakhi
+41''
Chainel
+35''
Pal, Ladagagnous, Hivert, Chiarini, Commeyne, Bagdonas, Garzelli, Sithembile, Boasson Hagen, Verboven, Lund
+29''
Burghardt, Leukemans
+15''
Vachon
+9''
peleton (92 riders)

5km: Burghardt, Leukemans and Vachon (BSE) have caught up.

i981.photobucket.com/albums/ae297/knockout37/PCM0312_zps093503ed.jpg

3000m: Can Group Voeckler perhaps still contest the stage win? Roth and Rast are in sight.

i981.photobucket.com/albums/ae297/knockout37/PCM0313_zps8d4cf16c.jpg

Roelandts is somewhere in between.

i981.photobucket.com/albums/ae297/knockout37/PCM0314_zpsfddc6203.jpg

450m: But who am I kidding? Roth can already start to celebrate! The new manager obviously has already did a lot of good work at his team and Champion System has really deserved this win for a brilliant HQ and good and aggressive racing over the whole race. Congratulations!

i981.photobucket.com/albums/ae297/knockout37/PCM0315_zps731d5dc7.jpg

Spoiler
i981.photobucket.com/albums/ae297/knockout37/PCM0317_zps54451b25.jpg

Behind him it is very close in the sprint between Kakhi, Rebellin and Voeckler. If the stage would have been one km shorter then Rast would have ended up on the podium.

i981.photobucket.com/albums/ae297/knockout37/PCM0316_zps16db14c5.jpg

And Voeckler wins the sprint for second and takes the leader jersey. Rebellin completes the podium while Kakhi completes a brilliant team result.

Delighted for Silvio and Champion System. He deserves that for the great HQ.

Very impressed with Burghardt, expected nothing here, got slightly more than nothing.

Indeed. Congratz there Silvio. Might have come sooner than expected?

The team finally showing they are actually here with Chiarini finishing 14th and moving up to 15th in the GC.
In Turkey seems like Gavazzi lead instead of Calzone :/ but 5th for him is pretty good. Hoping that Calzone can hold on to the points Jersey.

Rudy could use some better support I guess Sad

Well done Champion System!
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Saxo anonymous again - hasn't been a great race for them.

Is it me, or does Khamse Khamphan ALWAYS crash? I mean I don't have time to check through races closely but it must be nearing Gesinkian proportions Pfft

Stage 8

The final stage. Clancy (TNN) is the first to attack and is followed by Thomson (MTN), Pedrovski (RVL), Proni (VIN), Day (UHC), Stamsnijder (ARG), Lequatre (BSE) and Mori (LAM).

Pedrovski rolls over the first sprint in the lead and Clancy the 2nd.

Cammaerts (COF) falls with 55km to go.

The break is actually holding on! Can they make it!?

No. They are brought back down to earth with 2.5km to go and in the midst of the sprint. Europcar are doing the best.

And they keep it going. Coquard is just released too well. Good luck catching him!

Guido is looking very good. Could he achieve MTN's stage win goal? It doesn't look like it.

And stamina is a factor as the Italian fades, and his compatriots come through. Bennati beats Calzone to 2nd, but it is the latter who wins the points jersey.

Guido better again, Bos just keeps disappointing.

Thanks for the report in this race where everything went wrong Grin

I only need the winner of youth and team Smile

Thanks guys for kind words. Really celebrating.
Not only stage win, but Top3 GC, so goals is most likely to be achieved, Young Rider Classification and Team Classification.
Totally overwhelmed.

Well, Europcar is overperforming(+- 8th on the rankings?!), and surely they should get a boost out of that? Wink

Super ride from Rast, we will happily take home the KOM. Gallopin, has to be the most unlikely rider since EPIC began. He practically falls every single race....

Shonak
If you want to get rid of Gallopin, I'll take him. Pfft
