After watching the other heats, talking strategy with Kyle,
and the occasionally game of peek-a-boo with Joseph it was finally '
time for me to take to the track once again for my Quarter Finals match-up.
--- *** --- *** --- *** ---
It's the best of 5 heats against an up-and-coming USA sprinter, Frank Bradley.
Off to another bad start. I can't keep losing the 1st heat.
A quickly correct my mistake and blow Bradley out of the water, 1-1.
But he puts the pressure right back on me by taking the 3rd run, 1-2.
I have to win 2 straight heats to stay alive... not good.
But I got the next one! So, it's do or die on the 5th and deciding heat.

Yes! A good comeback. I needed that.
On to the Semi-Finals taking place tomorrow.
I can't believe I survived two incredible close match-ups today.

Day 2 of the Sprint Tournament, the winner gets the last spot
to compete in the Districts Omnium event being held tomorrow.
I had the first Semi-Finals match-up of the day, nerves were starting to kick in.

My opponent: Patrick Walker. A TT specialist being sponsored by Team Sky.
This is pathetic. I lose the first heat again.
I guess I just like to make it harder on myself.
Shoulder to shoulder for heat 2 but I just come away with the win.
So, close. I needed that otherwise I would have been down 0-2.
Momentum is on my side now. I win by a bike length. 2-1.
1 win more and I'm headed to the Finals.
Damn, not again. He easily takes the 4th heat.
I'm going to another sudden death final heat to decide the winner.
My heart is pounding. Could I stave of elimination once again?

Speechless. What a heat. What a match-up. But I did it!
Somehow, someway, I got myself to the Finals.

It's not rigged. I was going to choose the direction of the story by his results at track. I had 4 options laid out depending on what happened. You probably still won't believe because your baseball but I can assure you I never restarted.

Wow there is actually a large crowd here for the Final.
Or at least this is the first time I have noticed because I'm getting heavily booed.
I guess they did some research and found my back story and spread the word.
Kyle and Joseph even had to leave the velodrome because of threats.
This quickly turned into a hostile and dangerous environment.

With everyone against me it actually took the pressure off me.
Kyle Carpenter was now expected to win because I was hated.
I cleared my mind, tuned out the boos, and waited for the gun. BANG!
I'm in the zone. No way I was going to lose the opening heat 4 times in a row.
Heat 2 goes even better! I'm up 2-0. 1 more to go.
No need for a spoiler this time. It's a clean sweep!
I can't celebrate too long as the crowd starts throwing beer cans at me.
They aren't happy at all. They certainly hate dopers (and I don't blame them)
but to throw things... come on I'm still a human being.
As I'm getting escorted out I take this snapshot as a nice memory.
I can't even image what the crowd will be like tomorrow for Districts.
