As the start of the 2011 season came around I wasn't even close to ready.
So the recovery process continued on for another year.
Bissell even gave me medical leave which allowed me to continue paying
for my rehab even though technically I no longer had a contract with them.
Jump forward to the start of the 2012 season and I decided to take my tryout.
I knew I wasn't 100% but it was close enough to where I thought I would be back to my normal self a months into the season so I didn't want to wait around
for 6-9 months for the next season's tryouts to roll around.
But it turns out I was no where near professional cycling shape.
I struggled mightily to keep up with the team,
and I was told I needed 1 more year.
Once again Bissell went over the top to help me by renewing my medical leave,
granting me another tryout for next season and to motivate me
they gave me my talent evaluation from the tryout.
I still had a lot of work left to do going into another year of recovery.

Oh no, he isn't as good as he used to be.
Hope he can make a comeback!

And that has been my story so far. I'm now writing this story as it happens.
Today is March 5, 2012 and since my last episode I have been training almost
every day to regain my cycling shape before getting hit by that car.
And tomorrow marks my first race back since the accident over two years ago.
It's just a small amateur event here in California but I can't wait.
Should be a lot of fun to get back into the peloton and see how I do.
Race report will be up tomorrow as
Kyle will be out on the course taking pictures for me.

Not yet, just stages still but this time they will be on PCM13 (with a small twist as well). I'm think career mode will start when he "hopefully" is riding for a professional team at the start of the 2013 season. Thanks for asking.

Wow, amazing story. I actually read all 19 pages in a row, that almost never happens.
Very well written and an original idea. Great stuff. Nice twist with the injury and the reduced talent evaluation, really cool.
Good luck, Travis. |

Excellent stuff! Only joined the site a few days ago, have been inspired and hope to start my own story soon, though reading this I feel like anything I do will be inadequate now!
Couple of things I would like to ask:
How do you actually do an individuals career like this?! I am assuming you add/take someone from the database, join the team they are in at the start of the career game and just control the whole team but concentrate on him?
Also I have read a few times now that stories are perhaps best kept until a few patches have been released for PCM 13...how long roughly until the game is up to scratch and the patches fix any bugs/errors which it contains on release?!
Keep up the good work, will be checking in daily having also just read all 19 pages tonight!! |

For your first question, you basically have it.
For your second, usually most patches and a full Daily db are out by August. Sometimes there will be minor patches for a month or two after.

Cheers for answering baseball - I had thought about doing a story for an individual but it seemed like it could be complicated, however the more I play the game the more I think it could actually work out well. Although if you can get sacked by the team in the game could spell trouble for the story?!
Hmm may be worth investing some time in a back story to fill the time until August then. I am so keen to get started after reading this, inspired me ...but little point if bugs etc ruin my first ever story!! |

@Ian Butler: Hoping for the same, a few good patches would be nice.
@admirschleck: Years of practice.
@Terniz: Wow, Thanks for reading. Always great to get some new readers.
@owen10ozzy: Thanks, like I said before new readers are great. As for your questions, baseball answered them well, but for your first one right now I haven't been using career mode but stage race and stage mode but yes I have been using the DB editor to add the custom rider into the game and use that team.

My first race back is 115kms totally flat in downtown San Diego.
I'm not expecting much but a positive preformance to build on,
as I'm going to try and enter 1 race per month until my tryout in November.
Here we go, the start of "The Comeback."
--- *** --- *** --- *** ---
It's bright sunny day and I'm diffidently feeling the pre-race nerves.
The flag waves and I'm off! Hopefully none of the rookies recognize me,
and consider me a huge threat up in the breakaway as I'm one of only
a few cyclist to actually be offered a professional contract in this area.
The few that do recognize me actually join me up in the breakaway.
We exchange greetings and have some great conversations as
the four of us quickly pull out a three minute lead over the peloton.
Cool to see some familiar faces I use to race with before my injury.
The only problem is the other 3 riders know how good I was before
the accident and are making me do most of the pace making even
though I keep telling them I'm no where as good as I was back then.
They aren't buying into it though as it has been over two years since then.
We get to 20kms to go with 1'15" lead I'm totally exhausted.
And I tell the guys if they want to win they have to drag me to the finish.
10kms to go and we are still fighting with a 50 second advantage.
Now it's just 5kms to go and we are actually pulling away!
The peloton is still chasing but the gap is back to 1'15".
I don't believe it. We are under the banner, one of us is going to win.
Starting in third I didn't know who to follow in front of me,
and it turned out I followed the wrong guy so I had to quickly
readjust and go after the other guy. But there was only 600 meters left.
There wasn't enough road left as I close down the gap but
couldn't make the pass giving me a 2nd for my first race back.
A great achievement. But I was so close...

Spoiler
My training is now in your hands for the rest of my career.
After each race I can receive both EXP and Form Points.
EXP is a permanent stat gains while Form is temporary (the next race/stage).
A maximum of 3 EXP and 5 Form can be rewarded after each stage.
After any stage I receive EXP or Form points
you guys get to decided where I put those stat gains to use.
All you have to do is comment on which category you want
1 of the stat gains to go (Ex. Mountain, Sprint, Flat, etc.)
The EXP points are used up first followed by the Form.
Each member can only say one category for themselves.
And it will go until all the points are used up.
For example, after today's race I have earned 3 EXP and 2 Form points.
The first 3 members to comment with a category moves the stat up permanently
by 1 number each, and members can chose the same category if they want.
Then the next two members to comment with a category will use my Form points.
Again, this will boast that category up 1 but only for the next race day.
And then that Form bonus will be removed after that stage/race.
If you have any questions about my training, leave a question below.
It looks confusing at first but it's rather simple,
and this will be the only method for me to progress talent wise.
