Boeing - Vivacom ProCycling

This is the announcement of a new Continental Team - Boeing-Vivacom ProCycling!

Main Sponsors

Boeing

cordwheel.com/uploads/images/link/Boeing%20logo%20copy.jpg

Boeing is a multinational aerospace and defense corporation. Founded in 1916 it is one of the oldest airplane manufacturers in the world. It was founded in Seattle, Washington and in 2001 moved its headquarters to Chicago, Illinois. Boeing still have presence in Seattle and that is where the majority of the team will be based and run. Boeing is most famous as an aircraft manufacturer, and most notably the 747.
So why would it decide to move into cycling. Cycling is one of the most rapidly growing sports across the world. Since 1999, and Lance Armstrong, the sport has exploded across the USA. Now with China getting major events, the UK becoming a powerhouse and other new nations never before has cycling been so lucrative.
As a result Boeing have entered into the market, by sponsoring this new venture. They take the lead sponsor role. But not only that, they will provide free travel and logistics to the team, allowing the new team to go global almost instantly. Boeing are also using their aerodynamic knowledge to develop new frames and equipment for the team, which may even be ready for the 2013 season.

Vivacom

Vivacom is a brand name of Bulgarian Telecommunications Company, which is the largest telecommunications company in Bulgaria. Vivacom is based in Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria. It is nowhere near as large as Boeing, so how can it go into sponsor partnership.
The Bulgarian government is the answer. They have agreed to part fund the project in the hope that it can boost Vivacom in eastern Europe. They will be the teams European base for the season. They also hope to use the team to advertise Bulgaria as a place for tourism and business.

Support Sponsors Confirmed

General Manager of Boeing-Vivacom, TMM, has confirmed all the relevant support sponsors for the team, for the 2013 season.
Already known where the two title sponsors, Boeing and Vivacom. It was also known that Boeing hoped to provide the frames and logistics for the team. And that has been confirmed!
Also on-board are a number of other minor sponsors. When it became clear that Boeing were involved another originally Seattle based company wanted in on the project... Starbucks! They will only have a minor role in additional funding.
Bulgaria, the Bulgarian tourist board are also now involved in the team, mostly to justify the involvement of the government.
Now onto equipment sponsors. The main equipment will be provided by SRAM. SRAM are based in Chicago, like Boeing. The two companies will work together to produce the frames, chainsets, brakes etc to make a successful road race bike.
The teams clothing will be provided by Nike. Nike are based in Portland Oregon, close to Seattle. Nike have experience with cycling clothing so the team should look and perform excellently.
There are also rumors that SpiderTech are looking to get involved with the project as well. But this is yet unofficial rumor.

New Team - Interview

Here are the notes from TMM's first interview with the media;

Media; Congratulations on getting a license for your new team!
TMM; Thank you. I knew our application was strong judging by the initial response from one of the admins. After that it was just developing the idea and contacting sponsors.

Media; Yes, sponsors. You've got some huge names there, and fair number of them.
TMM; We do indeed. Boeing have been sniffing around cycling since 2004 when US Postal dropped out. I was ecstatic when they came onboard. And then they said they wanted to try and make a frame! We are very lucky.
Our other main sponsor, Vivacom were different. We knew there are a lot of US teams so we wanted a different aspect. Then we noticed a lack of Bulgarian teams. A quick phone call later and we had them. Then the government heard and wanted to get involved as well. This is great news. As a base i cant think of stronger.
Then after all that, Starbucks, Nike and SRAM all coming on board as well! I was smiling and dancing for days...

Media; So how will the team be orientated. Bulgaria is your registered country, but there are a lot of big American sponsors?
TM; Good question. We aim to get at least 8 Bulgarians in the squad, preferably 10 or more. There are several around, and i don't envisage competition being too fierce. After that it will be Americans. Again their are enough around i think we can get some bargains.

Media; Do you know yet what type of races the team will target?
TMM; Not really no. The calendar is yet to be finalized, or even confirmed by the governing bodies. We have the ability to travel and we will use that. Half the calendar will probably be American races (thats the continent, not the USA), and as many Bulgarian (or Romanian, Serbian, Greek, Montenegran or Turkish) races as we can manage. Its our first season so we will start medium with massive ambition

Media; So it sounds like you know how you want the team to grow in the future.
TMM; I do indeed. I am honest about that as well. I aim for promotion to the PCT inside 3 years, and PT inside 5. I would like to keep a solid Bulgarian core of domestiques through that time. The Americas will provide the points scoring base of the team, with other nations filling in where needed.

Media; I must say this sounds like a very professional team.
TMM; Thats what i'm aiming for.

Media; Well, i wish you the best of luck in the forth coming season.
TMM; Thanks. There will be another press conference before the Transfer Window. Hope you can come up with some great questions

Yeah there probably won't be too much competition for the Bulgarians which should help to give you enough money to buy a nice leader. Good luck!

CSC-Orbea are continue to search around for potential buyers of Americans Craig Lewis and Brad Armstrong. So far Sram have expressed interest, and AMEX has yet to get back with us. Any chance Boeing - Vivacom would be interest? Price will be relatively cheap as we are just trying to get rid of them.

Boeing-Vivacom are of course looking for riders. Potentially Lewis and Armstrong may be targets. . However have other riders higher on our priority lists. But there is interest in the both of them.

Well, The market for Bulgarians isnt that big...Plus, with Oleg being around for the russians, I have to be creative in finding other countries in the east to fullfill the demand...

In other news:
Rumors about a potential move from Danail Petrov have been noted around the LukOil HQ in Moscow. They say, that, despite being expected to return to the Moscow based Team for his second season, Petrov has hinted at a possible move to Bulgarian backed team Boeing.
Vyatcheslav Ekimov (DS) would like to know if such rumors have originated from Beoings Headquarters.

The rumors did not originate from us here, we try and keep things in house where possible. But whoever released that information is actually correct. Boeing-Vivacom defiantly have an interest in Petrov. Its no secret that TMM is interested in any Bulgarians, and Petrov fits the criteria (he is Bulgarian).

Regional Orientation

Boeing-Vivacom today clarify their position on both nationality and regions. This is a Bulgarian registered team with the USA as a secondary nationality. In terms of regions any part of Bulgaria is key. But with the USA the team will do what it can to restrict itself to riders from Washington, Oregon and Illinois. We will also try and obtain a few riders from British Columbia in Canada. It is unclear how this will affect the team structure and it significantly reduces the potential signings, but it will benefit all the sponsors and the riders.

Focus Regions;
Bulgaria
Washington
Oregon
Illinois
British Columbia

Jersey Presentation

This will be our jersey for 2013. It is based around the colors of the Bulgarian flag. Our sponsors are happy with their relevant spaces. All-round a really good jersey, and we hope to see it often in the action, and on the podium.

Love the jersey!

Luckily Panayotov seems to be staying in Pearl, otherwise it would be hard to create a Bulgarian jersey that'd stick out from the normal jersey. Anyway, I like your team idea. Just stay away from the Kazakhs and we can be friends, okay? Pfft

Good luck MM, i love the jersey too and it is nice to have another east-european team in the family (but Ukraine area is full, sorry).
Pfft
I'll be back

miggi133
So is Russia!
Stay out of there! I already will have enough competition in OlegTinkov, I cant have you guys infiltrating my market (though I might have to dig into yours Avin).

And I just checked the DB again Manx, There are only 2 Bulgarians that have any shot at getting "good" results, and both are under contract... Itll be a tough year for you if you put a strong focus on Bulgaria. Youll probably need to get loads of strong americans as well...
