Tour of the Battenkill

We just started the race and I am already in the middle of the action. I attacked with the first attempt and for a short moment it looked like it could be successful. But with 24 teams participating more riders followed.

So it didn`t take long until I was back in the peloton. It would have been too nice otherwise. But I still feel good and surely try again.

Well. That`s not me. After 3 attempts I had to rest and so Craddock went into the next row of attacks. But even after 50km no group was formed and also my teammate is back in the pack again.
I can`t remember when we had such a fast early 50km for the last time. We just rode 1h so far.

60km ridden and finally a group has more than 2min advantage. Good to see Dale Parker in there as I was still feeling the early attacks.

So I hided myself in the peloton to rest and save energy as I still want to be there in the final. We now reached the dirt sections and luckily we have good weather today otherwise this would be a really muddy ride for us.

Three teams are seen in the pace working. Jayco for Dennis, Team Type 1 for El Fares and also the small US team Kenda for Shawn Milne a good allrounder and sprinter.

No luck with the breakaways so far this season. With 17km to go and the deciding hills still to come the group is caught. Still Dale Parker showed a good performance today and our team was able to save some energy behind.

It`s the second last climb and the longer of these two. So probably the best chance to get rid of the sprinters.
4 riders attacked and Dombrowski sees this as a chance. With an incredible acceleration he joins the group and even overtakes them.
I am still sitting in the peloton for the case that this attack is not successful.

But over the top it`s looking good. Joe has a nice gap as he is surely stronger on the climbs as some of the workers behind. Go, Joe.

We just reached the 2km mark and you can barely see him ahead. This must be enough now.
Together with Craddock I look for good wheels but so far I haven`t been the most lucky one but I try to get behind Dennis in the Australian jersey.

The sprint starts and on the uphill part I got a better position just behind El Fares now in 5th position of the peloton. Joe still having this gap. Great performance by him.

I can`t believe it. First race in America and first season win for our team. This couldn`t really have been expected on this terrain. But he set his attack perfectly and none of the others was able to follow on the climb.

As good as the uphill sprint went for me as bad was the flat sprint behind. I couldn`t keep the high speed and felt down to 16th what is still a good result for me seeing the guys ahead and my earlier attacks. Still I hope to be better next year as I realized that this race is perfect for me and I really liked the dirt roads.
See you again next week from France, where I will be one of the leaders in the Tour de Bretagne.

Actually I don`t know much about equipment. I can`t even find the helmet that is used at the moment... Embarassed
Irl they have a different helmet and I would add it or at least a more similar one, when finding the right tables.

They use a Giro helmet thats black with yellow trim. Its like SPidertech's but instead of red, its yellow.

If you can find Trek-Livestrong helmet from last year, that would probably suffice.

I have the original picture of the helmet but the only Giro Aeon helmet that is in the game is white/grey. So I might use this one or another black in future. (That said 1-2 stages are still in blue helmets)

@sutty: True. In a rider story you always want that this rider is successful but I still try to ride with realistic tactics and so Dombrowski was the man to attack. There will be races like Bretagne, where Eastman has the best form and others are working for him, so I hope he will do well then. Wink

Tour de Bretagne Cycliste – Trophée des Granitiers

I don`t know much about this race. Obviously it`s been held in the Bretagne region in France and is already pretty old as it was first raced in the late 60s.
It belongs to the UCI Europe Tour and is ranked as 2.2.
The race has 7 stages with 2-4 hilly courses. So I hope to be in front there.

Maybe the strongest squad so far. All 3 climbers are here plus Mannion. All of us prepare for our season highlight in California. Still I will be the leader here together with Dombrowski, who showed his good form in the Battenkill last week.
Parker and Boswell are fully focussed on the Tour of California next month but will be great support in this race for sure.
Stuyven and Mannion are perfect for the breakaways and will surely try something while De Buyst and Atkins will mainly be our helpers.

Like in many small races in France you will meet the three teams Cofidis, Saur Sojasun and Europcar. The quality of the starting rider will be pretty high then. Kern, Moncoutie and Coppel are all riders, that could contend in World Tour races and Tiernan-Locke seems to follow us and needs to be named as one of the top favourites. But with Dombrowski we also have a rider for a top5 here in especially after what he showed last week.

Tour de Bretagne Cycliste – Trophée des Granitiers


Stage 1 - Vannes - Vannes (167,1km)

Except for the hilly terrain at the beginning with 3 early KoM sprints we expect a sprinter stage today. So we want to be in the breakaway and maybe even taking the mountain jersey today.
I will stay in the pack waiting for the more hilly stages.

5 riders in the group and also Mannion in there. Always good to see on of us as this is one of the most important things for our sponsors.

Koga for Stroetinga and Europcar for Turgot/Arashiro make the pace. On the one hand it`s always great to ride with riders like Kern, Moncoutie or Coppel as they are real stars in cycling. On the other hand it makes it harder for us smaller teams to get the best results. In total it is in a good balance I think and as we are peaking for these smaller races we can challenge them.

34km and only 2'20 left for Mannion. This doesn`t look good today. Plus he wasn`t able to win enough points for the KoM. With 16pts he is 2nd behind Bosters (Metec) who collected 10 more.

Because it is pretty chaotic at the front now I go a bit further behind in the peloton. Many sprinters come to the front now and I feel it`s saver to stay in the middle of the group for the final.

With only 6km left Mannion got caught. Again. Sooner or later we will have success with a breakaway for sure.
The pace is very high now as the last sprinter preparations are made. None of us is in a good position today so we just watch.

Arashiro wins the stage. The Japanese of the Europcar beats Tiernan-Locke and Van Poppel.

I reached the finish in the first half of the peloton and felt I had good legs. So stage 4-7 are the important ones. Until then I will try to avoid any time loss and save energy.

Check the first page. There is an overview of the team.

Stuyven with 70 fl/sp is the best. So I don`t have any sprinter and definitely need 1-2 additions there next season.
I plan to have around 16-20 riders instead of 11. Mostly probably talents but 2-3 good riders, that will help me like sprinters as well. Then attack for PCT division. Wink
