Ugh, not looking forward to a lead-out train starting after La Manie.

Hope the teams who have to (Quick-Step, Liquigas, BMC), make it a hard race.

Don't worry, Sky will stuff it up.

I'm hoping for a situation a bit like last year - a small group forming after the Poggio that takes it, after a lot of aggressive racing in the hour before that.

It's raining in San Remo! That's is going to make the descent very dangerous and exciting. Would expect a lot crashes and Nibali 'winning or crashing' with his crazy skills Pfft It's 5 hours to dry up there for Cav Pfft

Why should a dangerous descent be exciting? Frown

Seconded. I really, really hope Sky wont race like GB did in the worlds. Luckily we've got Liquigas and some other teams wanting a hard race.

My bet is on Sagan for the win, Goss-style. Can't see him getting dropped up the Poggio, while I do think many other sprinters will struggle.

I'm sure of one thing though - Gilbert wont be in the Top 10.

That had a double meaning tbh, Cav isn't best descender in the peleton, those that are better than him will try to take risks and make the race more exciting at the endWink

Never in MSR I have seen a leadout train, even when he won in 2009 he didn't have one and Sky isn't strong enough here to do what they did at the Worlds. No Thomas, Froome and Wiggo to pull. And with Lofkvist sick at Tirreno and Puccio as a late replacement the squad isn't that strong to make such leadout. Cav, EBH and Lofo will have to race very tactically at the Poggio to stand a chance of winning.

I hope not to see a royal sprint. I hope someone does a "scarponi" on Cipressa. Or a group of 15-10 men to sprint for victory.
But i fear a sky-monoploy all the way to San-Remo.

Oleg Berdos (Mol)
Pierpaolo De Negri (Ita)
Dmitri Groezdev (Kaz)
Cheng Ji (Chn)
Vegard Laengen (Noo)
Michael Mørkøv (Den)
Juan José Oroz (Spa)
Angelo Pagani (Ita)
Juan Pablo Suárez (Col)

Have over 13' to the bunch.
Turchino still to come.

There have been lead out trains in MSR; to give one. Milram had one with Zabel and Petachi in 07 i think. But i also don't think Sky is going to win today. Or cav should do it on his own wich he had never done before in a 250+km race.

No live images from the race for another hour and a half i'm afraid.

I'm not even British, but I think you underrate his descending skill a lot. Cav, like many sprinters (or grupetto rider) is a very skilled descender, but you rarely get to see it on television. Nothing like Moncoutié or Zülle for example.

Cav isn't the best climber either Wink. Look for him to not be at full strength in a small group sprint at the end. Why'll he won't get dropped, Liquigas will try to make him suffer on the Poggio. My bet for the race is Sagan. If a Sky rider wins, it will be Boassen Hagen.

Are we ignoring the fact that Cav has, in fact, won MSR before?

I think he can climb well enough when he wants to.

It helps that almost nothing happened after the Cipressa.

It's not like you need to be Pantani to survive the Poggio. Put someone to protect Cavendish and to keep him in the front and, unless there's some crazy racing, he should be able to stay in the peloton.

It could also crack on Le Manie. Liquigas shouldn't wait till Capi's and Poggio to eliminate Cav.
