Oh the irony

“I think the simplest way to figure out if the sport is clean or not is to time some of the climbs” says Jonathan Vaughters, the guy with the second fastest ever time up the Ventoux.

Vaughters has admitted to being doped for that climb.

He never admitted to being doped. He just indirectly said that for that Dauphiné he decided to try and do "some things" differently, to see what the effect was, and "seeing the difference" was what eventually made him retire because he didn't believe in the sport anymore.

At 28.

So, he said it without saying it Pfft

So, as expected (due to the TdF rest day), Danish media reporrt that Riis Cycling has found a new sponsor. It's still said to be Sungard, and they will be presented today.

Damn what a tour then for Riis...

Two stage wins, some days in yellow and a new sponsor!

And this time, it seems pretty "safe". Three different news media have the story, all saying that they have been told it's true (= not quoting each other, but actually stating it as a fact).

So who will be Captain next year, if Cance, Schlecks leave the team. Fuglsang isn`t sure yet if he joins the Lux team but he wouldn`t be a very great captain neither.
What`s with Breschel, Voigt, Sörensens, Haedos? Guess they stay there?

Cancellara has a year more with Riis. And if the Schlecks leave, they'll have a truckload of money (unless the new sponsor's budget is way smaller) to sign some good riders.

Not a truckload of money, Andy is still on a "cheap" contract for a rider with his skills, because he signed it after the 2007 season. Frank has a contract that is equal to his value more or less, but they won't be able to sign two riders with equal skills for those money.

Well, I'm sure that with the money they'll have without the Schlecks it'll be enough to sign a top rider. And as the Schlecks behave as if they were just one rider, it shouldn't be that great of a loss. Pfft

After he had already come 2nd in the Giro, so while not as high as it could be, it's still not a cheap contract

Not a great loss? They both can win the classics and smaller stage races and Andy can win big tours.
And Contador is likely to stay at Astana, so there is no possibility to replace the Schlecks

The next time I'll be sure to put a smiley to make clear I'm joking.

Oh wait, I actually did put one.

... wait, there's two sponsors.

The name of the other sponsor - which apparently is the head sponsor with Sungard being the co-sponsor - will not be announced until later in the year. Won't happen during the Tour.

My guess is GN Resound.

Apparently, some guy naming himself HV has sent an email to Floyd Landis soon after his confession, to tell him that everything he could tell would be of no interest at all, but for shrinks. Then, that HV dude and one of his lawyers threatened Landis again, to have him admitting he told lies about UCI.

If anyone still had the naivety to believe UCI and IOC are not a bunch of corrupt morons, well... Frown

Go ahead Floyd ! Cool

I don't mind about a Danish team, it's good for Danish people and cycling, perhaps. Wouldn't be more or less cool that it was a team from Sao Tome & Principe though.

What I find more than regrettable is that a guy like Riis is still allowed to be involved in cycling. I know he always managed to not be involved in anything (bar Basso in Puerto 2006), but his integrity has probably not changed a bit since his days as a rider.

Cycling should get rid of such people for good.

That's exactly why Riis' team needs to die a horrible death.
It's a house of doping and it needs to go.

Not really. It means Riis will stay. It gives a good chance Worre will stay. And those two are doing more harm than good to danish cycling these days.
