Grand Prix Cycliste (PTHC) Discussion
We have arrived in Canada for the Grands Prix Cycliste. The hilly race of the year in Canada. Always an exciting race with the last 3 one day editions decided with a sprint from a small group. Let's take a look at the profile and the favourites!
4 hard laps of going up and down welcomes the riders here in Canada. A hard race for sure who has been won by some of the best puncheurs there are. Last year Robert Stannard beat Matej Mohoric in a sprint for 1st and we can see there has usually been a few riders getting away and fighting for the win. Will the same happen this year?
| 1 | Robert Stannard | Everesting | 5h05'56 | | 2 | Matej Mohoric | EA Vesuvio | s.t. | | 3 | Mauri Vansevenant | Fastned | + 24 | | 4 | Emanuel Buchmann | Team UBS | s.t. | | 5 | Elie Gesbert | Assa Abloy | s.t. | | 6 | Marc Hirschi | Sauber Petronas Racing | s.t. | | 7 | Simon Yates | cycleYorkshire | s.t. | | 8 | Joshua Edmondson | ISA - Hexacta | s.t. | | 9 | Sean De Bie | Lidl Cycling | s.t. | | 10 | Joseph Areruya | Xero Racing | s.t. |
| Name | MO | MM | HI | ST | RS | SP | AC | Lopez | 80 | 82 | 84 | 76 | 74 | 66 | 78 | Mohoric | 71 | 77 | 83 | 78 | 72 | 67 | 77 | Gidich | 76 | 80 | 83 | 78 | 77 | 65 | 75 | Lutsenko | 72 | 77 | 82 | 75 | 72 | 71 | 80 | De Bie | 69 | 76 | 82 | 74 | 73 | 70 | 72 | Stannard | 73 | 77 | 81 | 75 | 76 | 69 | 78 | Hirschi | 77 | 79 | 81 | 78 | 78 | 66 | 75 | Romo | 72 | 76 | 80 | 78 | 76 | 67 | 71 | Vakoc | 70 | 75 | 80 | 74 | 70 | 70 | 73 | Gesbert | 74 | 77 | 80 | 80 | 78 | 68 | 73 | Ardila | 81 | 81 | 80 | 69 | 70 | 62 | 75 | Schmid | 76 | 78 | 79 | 73 | 78 | 70 | 79 | Formolo | 78 | 79 | 79 | 75 | 75 | 68 | 70 | Kron | 71 | 75 | 79 | 75 | 75 | 66 | 73 |
Naturally the biggest favorite is Lopez. Best puncheur, one of the best pure climbers with a great accelleration. He is the man to beat, but there are many riders here who will try! Last years winner Stannard wants to repeat 2nd place the last 2 editions Mohoric is back with a big wish to finally win this. Also Gidich who 2 years ago finished 9th will naturally try to fight for this win!
Lutsenko came 3rd 2 years ago and is another rider who will try to get a better placement this year, a good showing from him can pretty mich secure his teams promotion. This might also be the last real try for De Bie, he has seen better days but if he manages to hit top form who knows?
A rider who will do his best to try to save his team with the PTHC points from here is Hirschi, his team is in the relgation battle and this might just be the race who gives them another year in PCT. On the other hand Ardila hopes to help his team manage what preseason predictions said about them promoting, he sure hope his pure climbing skill can help him. Are the hills long enough for that?
Other than that we should not look past the Rabobank pair Formolo and Kron, or riders like Vakoc, Romo, Gesbert and Schmid. All of the riders who with the right form can win here

Thanks for the preview, Heine!
We have to hope APP takes a boost from Pais Vasco and overperforms to get a top 10 result here.

Lopez was 12th last year, time to improve from there. This feels like a rather random classic where positioning at the foot of the final hill is crucial.
I think id hope for Lopez to play it a bit more conservativ and rather go for a safer top5 over attacking all day long.
A Big Thank You To All MG Reporters!

Opted for van der Poel here as I thought it may have more chance of coming down to a sprint than being one for the better climbers, though may not matter either way.
If we can get some solid depth scoring and avoid a big result for Lotto, McCormick or Hunter Valley then that might be enough to lock up promotion before the remaining races, but not expecting we manage it just yet. |

Last Pidcock race of the season. Hope he can end it on a high and get in amongst it in the Top 10 - and maybe more if it's a less selective race as it occasionally can be.
24/02/21 - kandesbunzler said “I don't drink famous people."
15/08/22 - SotD said "Your [jandal's] humour is overrated"
11/06/24 - knockout said "Winning is fine I guess. Truth be told this felt completely unimportant."

A perfect race for Vansevenant. 3rd last year...though the PTHC band apparently was not suiting this year unfortunately.
So cheering for the Pidcock, Lopez, De Bie, Schmid, Stannard top5 here. |

Romo did well as our captain in San Sebastian. Would be great if he can deliver again. If so, he is asking relevant questions about training next season
Excited to see the racing here! |

If we're to survive then Hirschi needs to put the team on his back and put in a very strong showing here

Good to be back on the road, maybe some sneaky points for Narvaez if it isn't too selective.

Congrats Bikex, and thanks for the report redordead!
Pleasantly surprised with the points from Bettiol and even more shocked that the youngsters Poole and Uijtdebroeks held out after their breakaway adventures to score some nice points! A good sign for their respective futures

Not ideal for us to have Gidich win this, but at least I think we score about the same as EA. (I think teams both will score big in PKVP and will challenge for the overall podium). Congrats, Bikex!
Good to have Formolo in the top 10 and Kron also with a good result.
Thanks for the report, red!

Not bad at all. 0 depth points sucks but we'll take 90 all day
