Tour of the Battenkill - Discussion
Welcome to the Tour of the Battenkilll. Part of the famous PTHC cobbles double header with Rheden GP, which is also reflected in the starlist here. It is a little bit weaker of a field than you might expect on average but that does open up some really interesting opportunities for the big guns in Pedersen, Senechal and Wisniowski.
Let’s take a look at the route which as remained unchanged for a while with 218km of hilly cobbles which historically has favoured Wisniowski. The Pole has three wins in the last four outings here which is quite a crazy statistic all things considered.
Favourites:
As previously mentioned Pedersen is the biggest favourite here and he has a massively strong team to boot with Blume Levy and Bohli being considered outsiders in their own right. This should open up a strength in numbers approach for the Scandi side as they look to put a controlling damper on the race until the Dane’s final lash. Tinkoff duo of Senechal and Kamyshev does also propose a massively dangerous prospect for every threat for Grieg’s control if they’re able to space out attacks that could put Pedersen under pressure. Wisniowski does seem kind of left to his own devices with Assa Abloy not really having a strong support team around the fading star.
The outsider field is also really interesting with Vermeersch, Rutsch, Stallaert and Tiller having relatively free reign to propose their own gameplans on the race which should be incredibly interesting to follow, should they be able to combine forces for the right move it would be absolutely game changing and could lead to a surprise victory for one of the.

Would have been a pretty great opportunity here, but I decided to miss both Rheden and Battenkill for Roma Maxima. Guess it worked out, but still feels weird!
RIP Exxon Duke, David Veilleux, Double Feature, and Monster Energy

Kortsidakis and Boutopoulos will have to stand their own Ground here. Not impossible to get a top 10, but also not necessarily to be expected. I guess I should have put Altur here looking at the startlist.

Would love any points in this race. Hopefully we can have a few guys finish up there but a hard group of riders.

Once again, just hoping Owen can live up to his place in the favourites' list. He hasn't done that since Roma, so probably not going to happen again.
Thanks for the preview!

Thank you for the great preview, whitejersey! In an ideal scenario Ulloa battles for a top-15 here, but I think he's too low in the pecking order to really fight for a position at the front. Good luck to all.

No expectations here. Could have split up my cobbled team a bit more to send a 75-77 rider here for an anonymous top20-30 maybe. But could also just hit a late top75 or something.
Hence decided to keep Van Hooydonck`s support with him in Rheden and send a team of breakaway and surprise riders here.
Doubt I now get the top75 but we`ll see. Maybe a lucky break and surviving in the top30. |

We don't have a competitive cobblestone selection outside of C2, and we have a PTHC cobblestone clash to end. Glad this day will be over, now to CTRL+C, CTRL+V this expectation to Rheden's preview

Hoping for another strong vdP performance, with a top 10 hopefully a realistic aim. Suspect the hills being almost entirely cobbled will work against him but fingers crossed for a good result. |

Amazing win from Vermeersch here! Impressive stuff after a somewhat “interesting” season for him.
Would have liked to see Kortsidakis fight for a bit more here looking at the top 10, but 8th is alright. Boutopoulos in 16th after being very aggressive is nice to see.

10th is a pretty good result given the parcours seemed to favour the cobblers. Pithie and Dekker adding depth points is useful as well.
Congrats to jandal and thanks WJ for the report! |
