Per for the treble, anyone? The Flandrien week is about to start, with no less than E3 Prijs. A first massive battle at the Pro Tour stage where all world class cobblers are present.
And the brightest star of them all, at least in this very race, can't be anyone, but Per. The Slovenian has won this race the last two years. This year he comes to do what only Bewley has done before him, to win the race three times in a row.
| Name | FL | STA | CB | SP | ACC | Pedersen | 77 | 78 | 83 | 78 | 77 | Spengler | 74 | 74 | 83 | 62 | 70 | Per | 79 | 74 | 82 | 74 | 74 | Anderberg | 78 | 77 | 82 | 60 | 73 | Senechal | 75 | 79 | 82 | 69 | 74 | Altur | 75 | 75 | 82 | 72 | 68 | Van Hooydonck | 73 | 75 | 82 | 61 | 72 | Zepuntke | 72 | 79 | 82 | 72 | 65 | Gerts | 76 | 75 | 81 | 71 | 69 | Kasperkiewicz | 76 | 75 | 81 | 59 | 67 | Siric | 78 | 77 | 80 | 77 | 71 | Gamper | 77 | 77 | 80 | 64 | 71 | Teunissen | 75 | 76 | 80 | 66 | 68 | Kamyshev | 75 | 78 | 80 | 64 | 57 | Ovsyannikov | 74 | 75 | 79 | 79 | 78 | Tiller | 74 | 76 | 79 | 74 | 73 | Vermeersch | 78 | 76 | 78 | 78 | 77 | Stewart | 77 | 74 | 76 | 76 | 71 |
Sorry for the lack of colours!
E3 Prijs is rated as a flat cobbled classic, but still includes several of the famous Flandrien climbs, making it a race for the true cobblers. Having said that, everyone has seen how most cobbled classics in all divisions have been raced so far this season, seeing it is really, really difficult to create gaps and differences for the cobblers. This week with the Flanders classics, and also with more cobbled races coming thick and fast, could give us different outcomes.
No matter the scenario, Pedersen must be considered the favourite looking at the stats. It's the same as it has been for a couple of years, any cobbled race will naturally have him as the favourite. His sensational combination of pure strength, but also his lethal sprint in these races, means he has several ways to win it. Having said all that, his last three years here have only given him 20th, 11th and 10th place. Surely he will at the very least go better this time?
Per is the superstar of this race. The Slovenian has won it from a small group sprint on both last occasions, which must make him very confident. And together with lots of the other guys named on the list above, he surely fancies his chances if it becomes a difficult race too with lots of attacks and aggression. His ability to pick the right move and decide for the right time to attack, rarely lets him down.
Other than that, it feels natural to split the list of contenders into two. Those hoping for the race to be as difficult as possible and thus having the CB stat being the most important for how the race and their placings are decided, and those hoping for a bigger group where they can sprint well. Having said that, sprints in such groups are often all about timing, and not so much about stats.
The first category is led by Spengler, Anderberg, Van Hooydonck, Kasperkiewicz and Gamper, while those rather fancying a sprint in a slightly bigger group, surely are riders like Senechal, Altur, Zepunktke, Siric, Ovsyannikov and Vermeersch.
The report will be done by Imladrik.

Tough field for Gamper, even a top 10 will be hard.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Praying for Kaspa to perform better than he has so far but fear he might even miss top 10 thanks for the pro!

We're only here for the fun, so let's see what Zepuntke can do on the highest level in his last maxed season.
Thanks for the preview, ember!

We really tempted fate by making this our win goal after winning it the last 2 years. Per's looked great so far this season, though the competition is much stronger than before and he's not a Bewley level talent bound to threepeat. He's got a strong team around him, so we'll just have to hope he's on good form for it!
Thanks for the preview!

Super excited for this one, as it is Anderberg's first cobbled race after his training! Really, really hoping we get a selective race, where he gets to prove he has become stronger compared to the last season. If not, I'll be very worried for what is to come this year
Also hopeful, but curious, to see if we are able to give him the needed support. Stokbro should be his key man/last man standing, but Swift on a good day should also be able to be around in the key moments before the biggest favourites launch.
Looking a lot forward to the report! |

Not sure about the hills but it should still be a good indicator how Van Hooydonck is going to perform this year.
Need to have him consistently in the top10 with couple of better scoring performances.
His FL/STA/SP deficit obviously not ideal, so I need him to hang on and follow the right attacks. |

I guess this one is too easy for Altur. Fingers crossed we will do something useful. We really need to cobbled to work.

Even a Top 20 here looks tough. No mention in the preview pretty much supports that assessment. Lets see if one of our guys can surprise.
Thanks for the preview!

Thanks for the report, was nice to see such an active race, poor Evonik seemed to have burnt all their energy for a leader unable to keep up today sadly!
ALSO KASPA Think this nets up 150 points from this race alone which is going to be a nice boost in the run for promotion, which seems a lot more likely all of the sudden!
Also congrats to rod a nice win for Siric, love to see a homegrown rider like him with such a performance!

I try to be understanding when things dont go my way but this race is absolute bullshit. A rider like Ansons in a fairly large break full of similar strength rider is basically our dream scenario and we are chasing ?! Then Neilands wastes tons of energy for absolute pointless chasing and gets dropped quickly ?! And finally Ovsya seems to have a real bad day. Completely trash race (from an evonik pov)
Thanks for the (excellent!) report. Congrats to red and whitey

Congrats to redordead on a great win by Siric and thanks to Imladrik for an exciting race. Some screwy AI here as knockout pointed out, but fortunately for us we continue to dodge it. I'm happy with Jacobs finishing back of top 10. That's his job this year and he's doing it so far.

I know that Gerts is not exactly a top dog anymore, but finishing last in that group is kind of disappointing. Huge bummer for Grieg too who were looking for a life line in these races.
Congrats to red and WJ on some pretty nice results!

5th is alright here from Altur. Can’t complain about that. Depth was pretty bad though. Seemed a bit random for us. But overall decent.
