[C2] Monterrey TTT
We're in Mexico for the annual C2 TTT classic Monterrey TTT. This will be the 13th edition of the CT TTT classic and this time it'll be free for all. Why? Well, the dominant force over the last 4 years - IESE ProCycling team (3x winners) has decided to spend their C2 RD's elsewhere and unlike in 2023 will not return as PCT. This means that we will not only have a new winner, but for the first time since 2020 ivaneurope's cycling team will not be on the podium either.
The profile is no different from previous years - the same 46.7 km course that is relatively flat. There is one part where some small climbing needs to be done and can make or break a team's run.
But how do the teams stack up? Let's find out
| Team | Riders | Full Train | Top 5 | Top 3 | | SEE Turtles | 8 | 75 | 76 | 77 | | Kraftwerk Man Machine | 8 | 75 | 76 | 77 | | Glanbia | 8 | 74 | 75 | 77 | | Podium Ambition | 8 | 73 | 75 | 76 | | Parmalat - Ecopetrol | 8 | 73 | 74 | 75 | | Euskotren - Pays Basque | 8 | 72 | 74 | 75 | | McCormick Pro Cycling | 8 | 72 | 74 | 75 | | Euskadi-Murias | 8 | 70 | 76 | 78 | | Tafjord Kraft | 8 | 64 | 67 | 70 | | Team Zappes Kölsch | 8 | 62 | 64 | 66 |
The field is pretty small this time with only 10 teams present. But it seems to be the most wide open in years. SEE Turtles have been griding for TTT supremacy and they have on paper the superior team. But that's the thing when you have the best train - you now have a target on your back. Kraftwerk will look to earn enough ranking points to help them get back into the PCT. 2023 winners Podium Ambition also were relagated back to CT after a poor 2024 PCT campaign and the Carribbean team is looking to step once again on the top. Glanbia were all so close to topple IESE's dominance, but 3 seconds denied them the chance - now they try again for the win. Parmalat (who enter Restrepo - one of the riders involved in the 2024 win), Euskotren and why mot McCormick (the only PCT team dared to enter) seem to be wildcards for the podium. At the bottom we see Tafjord and Zappes Kölsch - while Tafjord have 78 TT Belevics, Team Zappes Kölsch is by far the worst team from all with no rider with 69+ TT.
And here's the startlist as I hand reporting duries over to Ulrich Ulriksen:

Kraftwerk has a win goal here and recruited Christodoulos to strengthen our TTT squad.
Its pretty competitive though, I hope our boys can turn it on.
Thanks for the preview ivan.

Always remarkable to me how few teams show up for the TTT classics when it is basically guaranteed points - but no complaints!
Think that we're in line for a top 3, but I don't have full confidence in a win. Think it'll be a 3 way battle between Kraftwerk, ourselves and Euskadi. We'll see if they can handle things with just 5 major riders, especially since the time gets taken at four now.
Can't wait to see how it goes and hoping to finally grab our first TTT CLASSIC win.

Pirates steal the show - congrats TMM
Kraftwerk were looking good for a while, 2nd still a good result but we missed our win goal sadly.
Thanks for the report UU and good points for a PCT team!

GOAL!!! A much much needed burst of light in a season that's rapidly falling off the rails. You can't keep this team down for long!

Not exactly what we hoped for and we'll have to go back to the drawing board - still we'll be ready for the future TTs I'm sure

Definitely a good outcome for us, I think that is more C2 points than we scored all last season.
AI comments to follow so in a spoiler
Spoiler Because it is really quick race, I ran it a few more times. My impressions (and I didn't spend a lot of time studying it) was that the deeper teams were more consistent, the teams with a strong top end but weaker back had pretty varied results I am guessing based on the RDC of their fourth to sixth riders and how long they were able to stay together.

On the very lower end of the expectations for us, as I'd have us one to three places higher.
Still, points are points and those aren't too costly. Thanks for the reports and comments Ulrich, congrats TMM!
