Welcome to the 19th edition of the Gent-Wevelgem one day race. Gent-Wevelgem has the length of a monument race, but from a cobbles and climbing perspective it's not too attritional. Then again it all depends on how hard the middle portion is raced. In that part the riders have 5 laps with the Kemmelberg climb. What kind of selection is made there is important and then does that selection of riders make it to the finish line. So I decided to group the favourites amongst the cobblers and more classics type sprinters.
With that said let's look at some of the favourites:
| FL | HI | ST | RS | CB | SP | AC | Teggart | 73 | 69 | 76 | 73 | 76 | 72 | 70 | Van Lerberghe | 73 | 65 | 73 | 72 | 76 | 74 | 71 | Vermeersch | 76 | 69 | 72 | 76 | 74 | 73 | 70 | Ariesen | 75 | 68 | 74 | 73 | 75 | 70 | 71 | De Witte | 74 | 68 | 75 | 72 | 75 | 71 | 69 | Nielsen | 75 | 67 | 71 | 75 | 74 | 73 | 71 | Basso | 73 | 72 | 78 | 73 | 73 | 71 | 69 | Sanogo | 73 | 71 | 71 | 72 | 76 | 69 | 70 | Chatarunga | 71 | 66 | 77 | 70 | 76 | 69 | 66 | Roosen | 74 | 71 | 71 | 73 | 75 | 66 | 71 | Yechezkel | 74 | 64 | 71 | 72 | 76 | 64 | 73 | Monk | 74 | 66 | 76 | 70 | 76 | 61 | 70 | Campbell | 74 | 68 | 69 | 68 | 75 | 68 | 73 |
A quick side topic of sorts. I found it a bit jarring that there are more favourites from the PCT than CT when there are restrictions for PCT in C2 races.
Anyways, Teggart tops this list. No one beats him in the cobbled stat, he has high stamina for a long race and can sprint well if needed at the end. Van Lerberghe's stamina is a bit lower, but he has the fastest finish out of this group. Yay for CT!
Vermeersch is also a somewhat sprinty guy, but given Duvel's lineup I put him on this list. A good FL stat could mitigate the lower stamina for him. Lotto bring the duo of Ariesen and Chatarunga. The former is a faster finisher and better rounded, the latter is a better pure cobbler.
De Witte is similar to Teggart, just slightly worst in most of the stats. Nielsen, Basso and Sanogo underline the CT presence at the race. Nielsen is a good finisher at the end. Basso is arguably the best climber which should help him as the cobbled sections are largely uphill. Sanogo is good over the cobbles, but lacks some stamina.
Rounding out this list are more riders from PCT. Roosen, Yechezkel and Monk are all pretty similar, neither great in a sprint finish. The last rider is Campbell. Good main stats, lacks stamina and resistance which could be a factor in the long race.
| FL | HI | ST | RS | CB | SP | AC | Venturini | 75 | 68 | 74 | 74 | 72 | 75 | 77 | Harrison | 71 | 66 | 72 | 69 | 72 | 77 | 80 | Major | 74 | 66 | 74 | 70 | 70 | 77 | 78 | Hennis | 70 | 70 | 71 | 72 | 69 | 75 | 76 | Bittner | 70 | 69 | 71 | 72 | 67 | 74 | 75 |
A shorter list here. Venturini is easily the most resilient of the fastmen, it remains to be seen if he can make it to the finish line with the first group and if Duvel will prioritise him over Vermeersch. Harrison is the fastest here, Major has similar top end speed, but the further we go down the list the harder it should be for these guys to participate in a sprint finish for the highest places.

This I have been looking forward to! I tried to get many different cobble riders over the transfer season and pretty much ended up getting Van Lerberghe as a last resort, and then he ends up being one of the strongest CT cobble riders! I hope to steal quite a lot of points here
My experience in this race is that it usually ends up with a sprint, that makes riders like Harrison or Venturini really scary (A rider I wanted before transfers started)
Really hope for a strong result here, and really hope Lerberghe don't expect too much help from his team. We didn't send what we can call a great support squad

C2 cobbles! Roosen and Mestric are here if the race is the selective, otherwise Costiou could get us something from a sprint. We expect at least some points either way and hope for the best!

Thanks red for the preview!
Hopefully we can get both Ariesen and Chatarunga in the final. Should be a open race from there on.

Hmmm can't really get why I didn't send Darbinyan here, when he was 3rd last season and had RD left.
Thanks for the preview, good luck to those who have decent chances of doing something

Kraftwerk are hoping this race is not selective and Harrison can sprint for the win but we have not got any strength in depth to chase a break so I am anticipating a sprint for minor places.
Thanks for the preview red.

First C2 cobblestone race of the season. Could be a gold mine for us, might very well be a total bust

In Fairness i might have get this race confused with a different one as when they started going up the Kemmelberg a few times i felt more confident
Basso is just a beast in this version of the game plain and simple really happy my planning paid off with him and finding suitable team-mates unreal from Livyens in 6th and Sangulin in 13th as well somehow our 2nd best race of the year so far from PPRD by far the best couple of months i've had in the MG and some fantastic reports to go with it thanks all! |

Congrats jt, at least you're not in PCT yet to make us all look even worse!
We were active which would already have been enough in a C2 race, Mestric in 8th and Costiou in 24th add some nice points.
Thanks for the report, red!

Before the race I expected a top 10 from Yechezkel (or Manamalage). I enjoyed to see Bittner mentioned, but I don't expect any results from him yet.
4th and 7th is great! I would have liked to see a bit more chasing from the group after the top 3 escaped, but I wouldn't expect us to beat them even if they had been brought back.
Thanks for the preview and the thorough report

HC races bringing us more points than C2 races, that's the world upside down for us. Mid race attacks are not the play at this level
Thanks for the report red and congrats jt!

Better race, because we actually tried - multiple things & riders! Hey we didn't get a worthwhile result but we tried!
