Welcome to the 11th edition here in Russia! One of the early tests for a strong CT puncheur fields this year. 213,2 km long with 8 circuits before finishing with a grueling uphill battle. This should be a race for the strongest of them! Least season the race was raced in summer, but this year we are racing in February and it could become a cold experience for the riders!
GP Yektaringburg was back last year after having a break for 3 seasons. It has been won by legends like Frank Schleck and Wilco Kelderman, while Johan Esteban Chaves is the only rider to have won it more than once with his victories in 2017 and 2019. Last season Xianjing Lyu won ahead of Rok Korosec and Luca Wackermann, none of which are present this year.
Previous winners:

For a C2 race we have a very strong field this year with 2020 2nd place Moscon perhaps the biggest of them all. Bianchi has had a strong start to the season and it could very well continue here. He got a very strong support squad headlined by Watson and with no less than 5 riders with 75 or higher hill stat. Bianchi should be the team to beat here!
Who is the closest competitors? Masnada might be the biggest one with his mountain and hill combo. Sagan is a legend and could do well here even if he is in decline and the race might be a bit longer than he prefers now but he got a very strong support squad aswell, and Turgis is one of the strongest puncheurs in CT and can't be underestimated. Eriksson from Tafjord is another rider who should be among the best. Still I believe the biggest threat together with Masnada comes from the Euskotren trio Stocek, Lafay and Dieteren with Lafay being the most dangerous. Paez of Incaline is another rider who might have a very strong case for top 3 / top 5 here.
Among pure puncheurs also Peugeot duo Vogt and Vincent could do something. Also the Tafjord pair Hoelgaard and Dyrnes could get a potential podium, and it will be interesting to see if riders like Kanepejs, Senyenov and Kwiatkowski might do something even though they are not among the biggest favorites.
There are also several strong climbers here, with Berthet, already mentioned Masnada, Gall, Schultz and Rochas among the riders who would want to make every climb count. The main problem here however is that Bianchi also has Smith, Conti and Miltiadis here to counter it. Will also be interesting to see the tactics of IESE considering they have 5 riders with at least 75 mon to support Kwiatkowski. Could they make the race really hard?
To conclude the biggest favorites are in my eyes Moscon, Masnada and Lafay with many strong riders coming from behind. We might be in for a fantastic race here!

Weird race this one usually comes down to that final climb and to play it safe brought really good support for Moscon so in theory he just has to do his effort on that climb and that should gurantee a top 5 and a decent points day.
I doubt Moscon can win it unless he drops everyone as the last 500m is pan flat i actually like a bit of an outsider in Stocek here and probably wouldn't have brought Lafay just to gurantee him leadership but he should be able to get over the final climb in the lead group and as we saw with Lyu last year you can make up so much ground in the final 500m if you have a good sprint |

I ended up "throwing the kitchen sink" at this one. Considering the lenght I wanted both Vogt and Vincent here with their stamina, then I ended up sending Schultz aswell in case the mountain stat got important and I had race days left, Luchshenko and Gorselj aslo just ended up here
Hopefully we will have 1-3 riders in the finale and can get both a good result and some depth points

Kraftwerk need a good result from Masnada/Gall to keep the points rolling in. Its a long one, expecting stamina to play a major part.
Thanks for the preview Heine.

Welp, that wasn't too much of a problem with Wackermann (and Pacher) last season, so let's hope it's indeed Stocek who's brought to the line in this version! Sta should help too.
Same team as last race, more or less for us. We've strength whether the race is more mountainous (Lafay and Berthet) or Punchy, so let's see how it plays. Quite excited.
Thanks for the preview, good luck to all.

Don't really expect Sagan to have the legs for anything much but let's see if the old man can surprise us.

Ideal performance from Moscon in 3rd keep the points rolling in though not as i expected i thought he'd be more on the front and have guys coming past him not him be able to make positions towards the end.
So Close with my Stocek pick looks like the team just ignored Lafay completely which worked well for him
Finally congrats Dane and Parmalet what a huge early win for the team! |

Congrats to Dane and thanks to kb for the report.
Masnada in 60th for some reason made me think back to the Fast Show.

Moscon did enough to not regret having Korosec here

Congrats Dane! Big win!
36 pts with the depth points, quite good. More than if one of them got 2nd and then nothing else
Most important of all, seems to work to send Vogt+Vincent+Luschshenko. With some luck I could've gotten even more from this

Tough one but Korosec wasn't consistent enough here and the guranteed points Moscon gets had to be taken with the title fight |

I forgot that some run 20 tests before submitting their planning while others just hit and hope

Happy with Eriksson's 4th place. We need to pull off podium-ish results regularly, to be in contention for promotion.
Congrats with the win Dane and thanks for the great report kb! |

8th, 4th and now 2nd, we're coming close and I see a pattern! Let's hope Stocek or Lafay will get to it
Thanks for the report, congrats Dane!
