Stage 6 Report

The final stage of the Tour of Qatar is a race against the clock. Last year, on the same course, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/ino.png Gaviria lost 18 seconds to the stage winner and 15 seconds to the top sprinter in the discipline on the startlist, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/yor.png Kemboi. This year there are 8 riders inside 15 seconds of the GC lead but pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/elc.png Farantakis is by far the best of them and has to be the favorite for the GC.

This is a short TT so the favorite for the stage has to be pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/akm.png Andersen

The First 91 Riders


Overview

Only 10 riders have lost time so anyone starting after that could move well up in the GC but most of the really big names will come later, as will the sprinters fighting for the GC win.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/jur.png Jussaume’s unfortunate flat tire cost him a lot of time so he starts first. He is decent on the TT bike so we will get a reference time from him. It is raining at the moment but there is little wind.

Jussaume’s time is 4’39, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/cdb.png Norsgaard is a few riders later, 4 seconds slower is not what he will have wanted.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/pol.png Korsaeth takes over the hot seat going 2 seconds faster.

Two riders later we are into the group that hasn’t lost time, they start 51 seconds behind the GC leader due to sprint bonuses. For now, the best time on the stage takes the virtual GC lead. Initially that honor goes to pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/ino.png Arif Prayogo, who is the first rider on 51 seconds to start the epilogue, he slots into 4th on the stage at 7 seconds.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/sfi.png Van Dijke is the next strong time, he is 3 seconds slower than the leader Korsaeth, that does give Van Dijke the virtrual GC.

Before we get to the those two, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/eav.png Tanfield, puts up the 2nd best time on the day, 3 seconds slower than Leung. Surprisingly pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/eav.png Gunnlaugsson is also able to crack the top 10 for EA, he comes in 10th, 7 seconds down.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/kng.png Matsuda knocks his fellow former McCormick rider out of the top 10 by taking over 2nd, just 1 second down on his teammate Leung.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/yor.png Hayter takes over 4th, 2 seconds down, but pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/jur.png Larsen suffers a shocker, he loses 8 seconds, just 20th for him.

The favorite is the next important rider on the course – he puts 4 seconds into Leung, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/akm.png Andersen seems to be invincible at this distance.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/kng.png Ganna takes over 2nd but even he loses 2 seconds to Andersen. He does give King Power 3 in the top 4.

The IT World Champion, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/eav.png Würtz, is next, the top TT guys must like hanging out together. This is a little short for him, he loses 11 seconds (18th).

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/tti.png Razumov is 5 seconds off Andersen (5th). Tinkoff gets a second man in the top 10 as pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/tti.png Goldstein comes in 8th, +0’06.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/yor.png Kemboi didn’t get any bonus seconds and his epilogue time isn’t great, at +0’10. He has been in the GC top 10, 4 of the last 5 years, it will be 4 out of 6 after this year.

Shortly after Kemboi we do get into riders with time bonuses but none of them come close to the time they would need to knock Andersen out the virtual lead. So by the end of this group Andersen is up to, at worst, 11th on GC.
