Thank you for the nice report, jt! Enjoyed all the action and tension for the final 50 kilometers
Oooh, that's heartbreaking for Valter! He looked so, so strong during the race, and his sprint was amazing too, just a pity he started from too far behind just before the red kite. A better position, and I struggle to see him not winning that final sprint
Very cool to see MAL get it right on such a hilly course, with a bigger group deciding it. It has been kind of difficult for him with his Evonik team, but here it was all perfect, massive thank you must go to Bernal for the pulls and leadout he provided. Congratulations, knockout, super happy for you! |

First of all, terrific report jt! The final sprint was riveting, great read!
Then a big congrats to MAL and knockout. Incredibly strong sprint on the final ramp, he really made good on his status as a top favorite. Congrats to Schmid and Valter as well for the medals. Great results for each, even if it may hurt to come so close.
Meanwhile, very unfortunate result for Areruya. I still feel bad about failing to provide the Bralirwa support squad, which probably wouldn't have left him isolated as early. Given how quickly Areruya cracked in the final, maybe it wasn't his day anyway, but still ... At least I'm confident there's going to be another route that'll suit him well to get another shot.
Speaking of, I think the route worked really well. Not a course for the pure puncheurs, you definitely needed some climbing, but the pure climbers were held off and the likes of Stannard and Pidcock in the Top 10 are a nice sight, too.

Well I'm obviously absolutely gutted Haven't really had my heart pounding like that reading a report since the CX: A New Dawn days - in fact it reminded me quite a bit in a great way (quality) and an awful one (losing the worlds) of the first WC in that game. Maybe the biggest race of the MG ever for me, given I've never had a last-day promotion/relegation showdown, and have been anticipating it hugely. And I got pretty close to a worst case outcome. However, that's sport and I can't blame the AI or be upset at all with the race itself. Pidcock threw his dice and came out with a decent result even if he'd dream of more. Areruya cracked hard on a bad day but still gave it his all to stop a mass sprint including the big attack. No rainbows for us. Not sure if it's absolutely crazy and stupid or the most natural thing in the world after spending all these years raising them, but damn if I don't feel some real emotions about my guys. So proud of them both.
Of course, along with another one of my boys in Stannard (who I really thought was going to do it for a paragraph there), Lopez is, despite the rivalry, of course who I most want to see win outside of my team. He deserves it so much, as does knockout and Evonik. Love to see it, a perfectly played race and perfectly taken win. Can't wait to see the Evonik rainbow stripes. Congrats mate And commiserations especially to Valter, who looked so good as ember said. Not sure how Schmid and Fabianski are feeling - a great ride but hard to ever be happy when you're coming that close.
And of course the report, wow. While the spike in my heart rate occurred from the moment I saw the message saying the report was live, it was maintained by the epic coverage by jt. Even if it the end result for my riders made me a little bit sick, I really enjoyed the effort and care you put into the report. Awesome screenshots and great writing, certainly felt every bit of the drama on those last few laps. Been great to have you back as a manager this year and that is a very special contribution to MG history with that report.

Hell yeah! What an epic race to win. Might have been Lopez' final shot in his prime depending on route selection and im super excited that he nailed it. Cant think of a better rider to get me my first WC title after all those years of building him up and building a roster around him
Thanks for an incredible report, thanks to everyone congratulating. And another hell yeah!
A Big Thank You To All MG Reporters!

Congrats knockout!
Pogacar was never going to do anything on this course, but it was fun seeing Hocevar in the breakaway.
A big thanks to JT and all the other reporters for their work on the WCs

Bjerg with a nice seventh place in the TT. Obviously no impact from our riders in the RR but as selector for Colombia I'm celebrating this win
Thanks for all the reports and congrats to those who have to design a rainbow jersey next season.

Stupendous finale with an awesome coverage, thanks for the report jt. Ot was really neck a neck at the end
Stannard with an uncarachteristic quiet race did well to challenge for the podium at the end. Started the sprint too far back I suppose.
Congrats on the win, KO! Brilliant race from Lopez!
Would also like to suggest for the NCs to be removed in the startlist DB. it's already messy to try and identify riders in national team colours, even more so when there's different versions of those. Not a big issue of course, but if it could be looked into it would help imo.

Absolutely my fault this one, by time i'd realised Lopez was celebrating at the finish and i didn't want to wipe an entire race for the sake of jerseys being different but this will not be an issue going forward |

Big congrats on the titel knockout! Well deserved.
Pretty happy with the Greek performance here. Boutopoulos made it somewhat interesting with Kiriakidis doing a great job. Giannoutsos made the front group which is better than hoped. And not too far behind Soulious also. He would have been fun to have in the front group due to his finish kick.

Thank you to the great reports to the several reporters!
Happy that higuita was part of the winning squad there, congratulations knockout!!
With Hayter winning the U23 and him being part of Soxxony in Avenir, I'd like to say the victory was 50% mine as well. Congratulations abhishek as well
Nice to see Zmorka grab a medal in his last race as 'our' rider.

Congrats to Knockout, good to see Lopez make his skills count and nice to see a win for Colombia. And a thanks to JT for a WC worthy report.
Glad people liked the route.
From a McCormick perspective, Yates getting a top 10 was outstanding.
Sosa was well off the pace but given how ridiculously deep the Colombia squad is on that terrain I would assume he did his work early.

Congrats to knockout on a deserved victory!
Proud of Gregaard for making the front group. Aranburu looked good too, but I guess the race length broke him.
Thanks for a great report!

Wow, what an amazing race by the Swiss team! The Hirschi/Schmid double threat played that to perfection, taking turns with attacking. Schmid was the obvious pick for the finale with his better sprint (and probably more energy left after Hirschi's solo), and for once he did a perfect job in terms of positioning and timing!
This silver medal is so much more than what we could realistically expect in this field, as he was able to beat many riders who he mostly lost out to during the season - fantastic! And there's absolutely no shame in losing out to MAL, who really deserves this title - and he had fantastic support by Bernal, so really well played by the Colombians!

Sure, I was hoping for him to make it, no question about it. And it might have been the best chance of his entire career.
Still, no bitter feelings at all. He did what he could, and even far more than I expected - and as much as I'd have loved to get the rainbow jersey, it's good to see one of the Top 2 favourites taking the race. Commiserations to you, though, looks like Areruya really got hurt by the lack of support here...
Thanks for the great report, and congrats to knockout and MAL!

I noticed later that Beltran was part of the winning Colombian squad. If this ends up being his final race then that's a pretty cool end to his career

Awesome to see Lopez take the win The route suited him perfectly and he delivered with the support of a really strong team! Congrats knockout
A surprising podium to some extent but probably a sign of things to come in the near future on such terrains. Shame about Areruya struggling to finish it off without much support. Benoot did well trying to attack and also pulling for his leaders but it didn't really pay off. Olivier also did decently on a course like this.
This ends our most successful WC campaign with Hayter's win in the U23 RR the highlight and the youngster also added a Top 5 in the U23 ITT.
Thanks a lot for all of the reports and a truly great one to finish it off!
2024 season is finally done
