Welcome to the 18th edition of the Deutschland Tour. This is still a race for the time-trial specialist. The change is that stage 3 has been lengthened from 26.5 km to 45 km. Just in case there are some split shenanigans and the sprinters suddenly start taking the GC from TTers (I totally didn't do that last year ). Either side of that are still two sprint stages. So apart from the time-trial specialists we have some of the best sprinters here.
With that said let's look at some of the favourites:
| FL | HI | TT | ST | RS | SP | AC | Wirtgen | 73 | 75 | 84 | 76 | 75 | 63 | 72 | Würtz | 77 | 71 | 83 | 78 | 78 | 66 | 70 | Dunbar | 69 | 76 | 82 | 74 | 77 | 60 | 68 | Zmorka | 74 | 66 | 82 | 74 | 75 | 62 | 70 | Mullen | 75 | 70 | 81 | 75 | 74 | 60 | 70 | Durbridge | 72 | 66 | 80 | 71 | 72 | 61 | 62 | Lammertink | 74 | 69 | 80 | 70 | 76 | 63 | 68 | Beniusis | 71 | 60 | 80 | 71 | 73 | 57 | 67 | Mano | 71 | 75 | 80 | 72 | 73 | 60 | 66 | Bjerg | 75 | 68 | 80 | 73 | 77 | 68 | 70 | Sütterlin | 71 | 65 | 80 | 73 | 77 | 59 | 60 |
With the aforementioned longer time-trial now the GC battle should come down to Wirtgen and Würtz with the former as the favourite coming off his win in Slovenia. Dunbar and Zmorka are the dark horses, but more than likely they be hoping to finish on the last podium spot. Mullen should naturally slot in behind them, but the raft of the remaining 80 TTers will challenge him and amongst themselves from 5th onwards.
Sprinter | FL | HI | ST | RS | SP | AC | Cullaigh | 74 | 67 | 73 | 70 | 82 | 81 | Farantakis | 74 | 66 | 75 | 72 | 81 | 80 | Samolenkov | 74 | 64 | 75 | 71 | 81 | 79 | Philipsen | 74 | 69 | 74 | 70 | 81 | 80 | Kanter | 75 | 67 | 75 | 73 | 81 | 80 | Halvorsen | 76 | 65 | 74 | 71 | 81 | 80 | Abdul Halil | 70 | 60 | 71 | 68 | 81 | 79 | Ahlstrand | 72 | 65 | 71 | 70 | 81 | 79 | Vesely | 73 | 68 | 74 | 68 | 81 | 80 | Groves | 75 | 72 | 75 | 73 | 80 | 79 | Jakobsen | 74 | 67 | 75 | 73 | 80 | 80 | Kamberaj | 75 | 69 | 73 | 73 | 79 | 78 | Ovsyannikov | 74 | 68 | 75 | 72 | 79 | 78 | Boudat | 73 | 68 | 71 | 74 | 79 | 78 | Gross | 74 | 61 | 69 | 75 | 79 | 79 | Nur Hasan | 74 | 64 | 74 | 74 | 79 | 78 | Perera | 71 | 64 | 69 | 73 | 79 | 80 | Harrison | 72 | 67 | 73 | 70 | 78 | 81 | Sanikwathi | 72 | 66 | 70 | 67 | 78 | 78 | El Sabbahi | 77 | 69 | 72 | 76 | 78 | 77 |
The list of sprinters feels more evenly matched even without the fact that they usually produce more random results. Cullaigh is the fastest and he has gotten used to his newfound speed over the course of the year. Farantakis will hope to bring some joy to his manager in what is a big race for the PCT team ELCO - ABEA. Samolenkov will try to keep Tinkoff's latest run of good form going, while Philipsen is another great scoring option at this race for Polar. Kanter is on home turn riding for the German team which could give him a boost. Halvorsen's manager will be hoping that his team really performs well here to erase any thoughts of possible relegation. Abdul Halil, Ahlstrand and Vesely have a bit less on the line probably, but that freedom can make them more dangerous, and yes that's how many 81+ sprinters we have here.

Due to clashes we don’t have a single timetriallist here, so it’s all or nothing for Farantakis.
We have no GC ambitions what so ever, but it would be nice to finally get a stagewin from Farantakis. But He haven’t delivered all season, so why start now?
The sprinting peloton is crazy close so I guess it Will be all about AI shinanigans.
In terms of having sprinters in the GC mix it is sad to see the TT being so long, but I understand the reasoning.

A strong duo with Bjerg and Ahlstrand, but there is strong competition as well. Looking forward to this one!

Well, I guess our biggest hope for scoring here is Groves, after his Maillot Vert win. But given the insanely deep sprinter field, it could be anything from zero points to points jersey, we'll see...
In terms of GC, it's incredible how many 79+ TTers there are by now - even Rekita with 79TT isn't granted a Top 20 finish here. And I guess for the 78ers it could be anything from Top 30 to barely Top 50. Vernon and Marchewka with 77 will have a very hard time even just making the Top 50, even though the former will hopefully get a Top 5 in U25 once again. Seems like almost everyone has found some love for TTers by now ^^
Thanks for the preview, good luck to all.

Another big race for Würtz. Hopefully he can build on his performance in Slovenia and chase after another podium. With probably no gaps on the other stages, perhaps he could have a shot at challenging Wirtgen.

All hope is on Durbridge delivering here. He could fall out of the top 10 or bluff it into top 5 who knows. El Sabbahi is here to poach anything he can get honestly. Thanks for the preview.

Thanks for the nice preview, redordead!
Hope Zmorka can beat Dunbar for the final podium spot, and we have Sütterlin in top-10 with guys like Vlatos and Ocampo scoring well for depth as well. Hopefully Halvorsen can finally perform well again.

Quispe goated. Probably as much as we could have expected from El Sabbahi in this field. Congrats to Marco and thanks for the report.

Ouch. Guess that was Groves' worst sprint of the season, 18th is really awful. Never in contention due to horrible positioning. Hoping for some better performances in the remaining sprints.
Congrats to Marco, always good if a PCT team takes the big points if we can't
Thanks for the report.

6th is not ideal, but we've seen worse Hopefully we can get a better performance or two in the coming sprints.
Nevertheless, always nice to see the Minions win and see Quispe being an absolute legend. The grace, the strength and then the generosity to not sprint toward bonus seconds at the finish line so somebody else can wear yellow. Phenomenal.
Thanks for the great report, Abhishek!

I guess I put Hoelgaard in the lineup in case he gets the freedom to hunt KOMs. Looks like a good call

Ah, the good old gap for no reason. Hopefully it won't matter. Other than that, we are safely through the first two days. Now it's time to see what's in the legs ..

Hmm interesting… Based on previous TT’s Farantakis should lose around 3-3’30” on a TT like the one we have here.
Obviously the gap isn’t significant enough right now, but another similar one - or a couple of strong stage results could make it interesting for a decent GC result.
The competition is more fierce than in Arab, so a top 10 is highly unlikely if we get another minute, but a top 20 might be possible.
The stage result was horrible as usual though.

Decent result by El Sabbahi, now lets hope Durbridge can kill the clock in the next stage! Congrats to the winner and thanks for the report.

Fifth is indeed better. Hopefully we can get a better performance or two in the coming sprints!
But first the time trial. Podium and top-10+15, please?
Thanks for the great report again, Abhishek!
