Giro del Trentino
Racing will be done by Abhi
Welcome to the 13th edition of the Giro del Trentino. A three-day event, which kicks off with a team time trial, followed by a mountaintop finish, and rounding off with even more mountains, with an easier finish however, which could favor a breakaway.
Let's have a closer look at the race profile and last year’s result, before we move onto the favorites.
Spoiler 1 | William Chiarello | Crabbe-CC Chevigny | 9h28'57 | 2 | Natnael Berhane | JEWA TIROL Cycling Team | + 38 | 3 | Mikel Iturria | Bordeaux Métropole - Euskotren | + 1'12 | 4 | Pawel Poljanski | Strava | + 1'16 | 5 | Ide Schelling | Team Würth MODYF | + 1'52 | 6 | Ben O'Connor | Podium Ambition | + 1'58 | 7 | Matteo Fabbro | Air New Zealand-Alfa Romeo | + 2'16 | 8 | Marc Christian Garby | Tafjord Kraft | + 2'27 | 9 | Bjorn Tore Hoem | Tafjord Kraft | s.t. | 10 | Andrea Zordan | Saeco | + 2'41 |
Team | Average | Top 5 | Top 3 | Gjensidige Pro Cycling Team | 70,4 | 75,6 | 77,3 | Glanbia | 70,9 | 74,8 | 76,3 | Newton Foundation p/b Zwift | 72,8 | 74,8 | 76,3 | Trans Looney Tunes | 70,1 | 74,4 | 76,0 | Ethiopian Airlines | 70,3 | 74,2 | 76,0 | Euskotren - Pays Basque | 71,5 | 74 | 75,3 | Genii Hyundai N Cycling | 72,0 | 74 | 75,0 | Simba Cement - Tanga Fresh | 71,9 | 74 | 74,7 | Duvel-Tsingtao | 67,1 | 71,8 | 74,7 | SEE Turtles | 66,9 | 71,2 | 72,3 | Euskadi-Murias | 67,9 | 70,2 | 72,7 | Spark Team NZ | 67,0 | 69,8 | 72,7 | Air New Zealand-Alfa Romeo | 63,6 | 67,6 | 68,7 | Team Würth MODYF | 65,9 | 67,6 | 68,7 | Babymetal | 65,0 | 67 | 68,3 | Zain - Omantel | 60,0 | 62 | 63,7 |
Gjensidige Pro Cycling Team has a very strong top 5, and should be able to win the TTT, if they don't care too much about their weaker time trialists. Glanbia, Newton Foundation p/b Zwift, Trans Looney Tunes, and Ethiopian Airlines will probably also chase the win, whereas Euskotren - Pays Basque, Genii Hyundai N Cycling, and Simba Cement - Tanga Fresh will most likely be beyond happy if they end up on the podium.
Rider | MO | HI | STA | RES | REC | TTT | Jorgenson | 79 | 75 | 79 | 78 | 72 | ***** | Elosegui | 79 | 71 | 77 | 80 | 83 | ***** | Guerreiro | 76 | 77 | 73 | 73 | 77 | ** | Bennett | 80 | 75 | 74 | 73 | 77 | ** | Arensman | 78 | 73 | 72 | 77 | 74 | ****** |
The top favorite must be Jorgensen once again. He's dominated the division so far and brings solid support for the TTT. Elosegui, Guerreiro, Bennett, and Arensman are the other top favorites in my opinion. Arensman is probably the biggest threat to Jorgensen, as Guerreiro and Bennett should lose time in the TTT, and Elosegui should be considered more of another option than an actual contender, as they both ride for Newton Foundation p/b Zwift.
Rider | MO | HI | STA | RES | REC | TTT | Smith | 78 | 75 | 72 | 74 | 75 | *** | Kozhatayev | 77 | 74 | 71 | 75 | 71 | **** | Iturria | 77 | 73 | 77 | 74 | 76 | **** | Penasa | 79 | 73 | 73 | 70 | 75 | ***** | Bernard | 76 | 75 | 72 | 73 | 71 | **** | Knox | 75 | 73 | 75 | 77 | 77 | ***** | Figueiredo | 75 | 72 | 76 | 74 | 75 | *** | Gaspar | 75 | 75 | 73 | 72 | 74 | ** | Vanhoucke | 77 | 72 | 71 | 72 | 76 | ** | Munoz | 79 | 73 | 72 | 72 | 74 | *** | Fabbro | 78 | 75 | 71 | 72 | 74 | ** |
You have got to make the cut somewhere. A well-rounded rider like Smith could e.g. be part of the favorites, and Fabbro might not even make the top 10 due to the poor support he will receive in the team time trial. I think we will see a handful of the outsiders in the top 10, and why not one of them on the podium. Who will it be? |

Looking at the competition I feel like a top 5 should be a very realistic goal here for Penasa, who really needs a standout performance to justify the big money we spent on him - why not do that now and achieve our first and last race goal?
The main issue is that we have been absolutely shocking in TTTs, heavily underperforming every time. Don't see why that would change now but I suppose you never know. Thanks Caspi for the nice preview and looking forward to the reports!

I hope Bennett can do well here. Hopefully the TTT doesn’t see us lose too much time and he can get a high result in the GC plus mountains. This could be an extremely important race for us!
Great preview. Good luck everyone!

We signed up thinking we'd send a full TTT lineup and then decided against it. So basically, consider this a 0
We absolutely need to throw our entire team into breakaways or something like that to at least show we attended.
Good luck to anyone who isn't Newton because you need it

Is a 1-2 GC finish too much to ask? First and only time Jorgenson and Elosegui get to race together this season.

What a start to the race
From the preview: "(...) whereas Euskotren - Pays Basque, Genii Hyundai N Cycling, and Simba Cement - Tanga Fresh will most likely be beyond happy if they end up on the podium."
I meant that they would be happy, if they could all be on the podium

56 second back isn’t too bad considering our TT ability. Now it’s Bennetts turn to go to work!
Thanks for the report!

Well that's a bloody disaster for Glanbis in what is a Goal race.
My attempt at mixing climbers and Time Triallers will probably mean I end up with nothing out of this
Thanks for the report !

Jorgenson not messing around. Love it! Didn't play any games, basically said, "I'm the best climber here, I have been all season, catch me if you can." And nobody could.
Make that our eighth stage win of the season to check off team goal #4. Now all we need to do is finish Top 5 in the team standings for a perfect 5 for 5. What a turnaround after not completing a team goal the previous three seasons.
Jorgenson, enjoy your last official race day of the season tomorrow! What a year its been for the American.

Thanks for the preview and the reports!
Good results for now, though I feel the jury has been generous with us in the last stage with the time gaps.
Tomorrow doesn't seem too hard, so there's a possibility we stay at this sweet 2nd. Maybe Rochas can enter the top 25 too.
Congrats Mre, it'll be nice to not have Jorgenson in our legs for the remaining of the season

Not a good stage for the team. Not sure if Kozhatayev had a bad day or if he was isolated too early, as we probably spend lots of energy controllingin the peloton. Either way, a top 10 for Kozhatayev will be satisfying after the TTT win.

Congrats Caspi for the win on stage one and Mre for a frankly ridiculous reign of terror over the division that is finally finding its end. As for us, it was nice to finally see a TTT not go catastrophically wrong, and PPP looked good on stage 2 also. I know he's always good for an implosion but all he needs to do tomorrow is survive and we'll at least get one goal on the season.

3rd overall after a great stage is awesome! Davila close to the top 10 as well. Great work! This is the type of stage I have been waiting for in the last few stage races.
Congrats to MRE again and thanks for the report!

4th overall isn’t something expected when entering this race so I’m pretty happy with that! Would’ve preferred 3rd but the breakaway was strong today.
Congrats to Jorgensen and Mre as usual for winning everything! Crazy good season! Thanks for the reports as well!

I have mixed feelings about this. I am happy with how Goossens performed. Also I cant be unhappy with Vanhoucke and GUerreiro but we somehow miss the last percentages to really get something out of it. Sow we scored only a few points in the end.
Anyway, Thanks for the reports and Jorgenson is just OP at CT

I've set up the team with Bernard in the leading charge. Well, he wasn't in a prime GC position, but a stage win + KoM win is enough of a consolation prize. We also got Ulysbayev and Barta with decent ranking points and we also got 5 ranking points for finishing 3rd in the opening TTT.
Thanks Abhi for the report and congrats to Mre - no one can stop Jorgensen

Slightly disappointed by Kozhatayev who finish outside the top 10 in the GC, but nice to see Carpenter on the podium after a day in the break. Overall, I’m very happy with the points haul
Thanks for the reports!

Decent work from Penasa, delighted to have achieved our final goal of the year and hopefully it goes some way towards achieving our team standings goal too.
