Tour de France - Discussion

Too bad that there was just one hill too much for Groves. But that wasn't unexpected at all, it was pretty unlikely he'd be able to keep up here.
On the other hand, Darbellay was very attentive today and made the split, good job by him so far. Too bad he doesn't have Groves' sprint, otherwise it would've been a great stint on home soil Pfft

Now please let's fire on all cylinders to get some riders in the breakaway, Rohendi and Berthet would be perfect candidates early in the race, maybe Darbellay later on as well.

Congrats to cio (you always manage to score so much more than I'd expect from your lineups ^^). Thanks for the report.

That really poor positioning was really something. In the end at least a poduim so a decent stage... the next stage things may start to get interesting.

Nice to see Carthy active there. He's a poor descender, so couldn't really expect him to make a move like that. Obviously would have loved for him to latch on and gain time or win the stage, but a 6th place is a good result in any case. Hope some of my secondary guys wake up soon though, weird to have only Carthy in the front group.

What a stage! I wasnt expecting either a stage win or a (small) gap over Kudus on this one so getting both is awesome. Lecuisinier looked really strong here, hope he doesnt peak too early

Congratulations, knockout! As you say yourself, slightly surprised to see PHL win it in such a dominant way, definitely a statement! Sitting pretty in yellow as well, which he could very well hold to the end Shock

Not much to see for us, honestly. We are still hoping for our first breakaway appearance, I guess Pfft

Stages that finish with a downhill always worry me so I'm surprised we managed two 3rd places in the last two stages. If we've decided to start making amends for this poor season then doing it at the race with the highest points scale is certainly the way to do it.

A very hard stage tomorrow, but I think we can aim to stay 3rd overall.

I wasn't expecting Grosu to still be in that group, but I''l gladly take the extra points. A bit worried that Champoussin has taken no interest in the KoM points so far (Vader is third only from rolling over the climbs in the pack so there were so points up for grabs so far). Hopefully this will change once we hit the big mountains.

Thank you for the great reports so far, Ulrich, and thank you kb for posting some of them Smile

Nice wins by some strong riders in the last few stages, but for us it's been a very silent week with less than one point per race day. Several relegation rivals scoring well, so we'll need to step up our game soon. Hopefully Marin can find some good legs on one of the remaining flat stages, and Aular finds the right moment to attack somewhere Smile

Shame Malecki got blocked in that stage 6 sprint. But nice to make up some of the time we lost a couple of stages earlier.

The first mountain stage went ok for us.

A big nothing stage for us... Really no clue why we don't even try to join breakaways, having no stage nor GC favourite here. Hoping things will change, otherwise it could turn into a very long and painful race. Furthermore with teams ranked behind us racking up points...

Congrats to Evonik on a first big win, thanks for the report.

Once again really terrible positioning, and a poor result... Congrats to Evonik.

Thanks for the report.

Wow! Kudus gambling absolutely everything, but then he actually wins the world with it Shock What a way to win the stage, and most likely the Tour too Shock Shock This makes for a massive task for Evonik and PHL, don’t think we can consider him favourite/likely to Get back that gap, eventhough he is normally the superior GC rider and can catch several minutes over the course of two weeks. At least I don’t dare to close the door quite yet.

Congratulations, Roman! This must make you safe from relegation, I suspect. What a turnaround for you, what a season changer. Happy for you!

For AHJ, that was a great stage, happy with his performance! A very daring ride, doing a lot of work to catch Kudus, and very cool to see him utilize his descending skills. Great to have him join the race GC wise too, a top 20 and the white jersey hopefully helps his positioning on flat stages too. A great comeback for him!

That is one of the craziest stages I've ever witnessed. I've never seen a top GC favorite just go in the early break in the first ten days of a GT, ever. To attempt is crazy, to be allowed is even crazier. Once he went, you had a feeling it was going to be difficult to catch him. PHL was not willing to push the pace early and just kind of let the race get away from him. Idk how Kudus could possibly lose now, barring several equally crazy attacks.

For us, it was solid. I think Gregaard should stay a little more reserved. We're not worried about Kudus, and there are other teams to push the pace. It hurts his GC to do that in this situation. Carthy's been right around where expected. If he keeps that up we'll be in decent shape. Been a little disappointed in Skjelmose. Had hoped he was a little stronger than this, even if still unmaxed.

Thanks for the phenomenal report Ulrich! Truly an amazing read to come home to before bed.

That opens this race up for many more long-distance attacks as there will be little pressure on Yellow. Hopefully that means Shikai can make his way back up the standings!

What a crazy stage. Guess Lecuisinier could still pull off something similar, but that time gap is massive and almost impossible to make it back.

Also, I have no idea what Champoussin was up to today. Guess the game just doesn't see him as a GC rider. But hopefully it will see him as a stage hunter and KoM points chaser.
