I was pretty confident for that race with Vansevenant, in especially with him usually performing well in hilly stage races mor than in classics.
But not even being mentioned in the preview makes me kind of afraid to have an invisible no show. Hopefully the outcome will be much better with the pure climbing being less important than hybrid puncheur skills. |

Nice to have the peformances form this season of the favorites in the preview. Formolo was also 4th in LBL btw.
I excpec a top 10 from Formolo here and some good depth scoring with Kron, Remco and Gerts also in the team.

Thank you for the prachtige preview, Laurens!
Top-5 would be massive for lil Sergio, but top-10 is more realistic I think, looking at the Ardennes results and also keeping in mindguys like Vansevenant and Schmid etc. are definitely also dangerous on this profile, as on first glance I think they should be able to thrive here as they did in other races. Will be interesting to follow in what order the big three will make up the podium

Thanks for the preview, Laurens!
We're here, too. And given the startlist that's about it, probably. But maybe we manage to finally get into the breaks consistently ...

Would be keen for Areruya to win here actually

The preview seems to be expecting a somewhat similar run to the last years where stage racers and climbers usually did very well while ignoring some of the more pure puncheurs like Vansevenant or Mohoric. Personally i think the change of profile gives them a bigger chance over guys like Choi or Shikai but that will surely be interesting to watch.
Nice touch to the preview with the seasonal performances overview btw.
Lopez once again with big hopes for the race. He always used to podium this and with Herklotz attending, the podium is what we expect at least. Below that and ill be likely disappointed.
A Big Thank You To All MG Reporters!

I hope Mauri and the other puncheurs can prove me wrong

Home race! And we've naturally thrown everything we have for such a profile at it. Both Valter and Novak here, and judging by the season so far, if AI must decide, I hope we give the nod to Valter to lead us. Ideally, though, we get to play both cards to bring home some kind of success. A GC top 5 would be amazing, a top 10 must be the goal, I think.
Herklotz the obvious favourite, as he is whereever he goes. Having said that, Valter was super super close to beating him on the line in LBL, which at least gives us the right to dream of something big on home soil |

Guess I shouldn't really expect anything here, but the course suits Aranburu, and we have to hope for the best every time. Maybe this is where he finally makes all the training worth it. I know I'm just kidding myself, but you never know! Really, he needs to at least compete and be involved at a bare minimum. No slacking off in the back third of the peloton while guys with similar stats ride off the front.
Thanks for the preview!

Unless we get a lucky breakaway result, this is going to be another painful race.
Thanks for wonderful preview Laurens.

One of the few races we have both Shikai and Choi, fingers crossed one of them can deliver a strong result here!

Joining roturn in hoping for the hybrid puncheurs to shine here. Schmid should love this route, and if Gidich with identical climbing skills can do well here (as he did last year), I hope Schmid won't be too far behind. But if he still got his LBL "I don't care" attitude, it could be another awful race for us.
Thanks for the preview, good luck to all (including ourselves I hope).

Wonderful first stage for Higuita, grabbing a podium and beating Herklotz. Nice to see the team working hard rewarded, with one cheeky KoM-point for Eaton, and great work by youngsters Galvan Ramirez and Ruiz.
Won't be easy to keep this up, but if he's got that great form, who knows what's possible.
Thank you for the great report, Abhishek!

Great first stage. Lopez winning ahead of Areruya is always one of my favourite possible results so im glad we got that here. Brilliant start for the hybrids <3
Great report! Thanks

Disappointed to have Formolo in the first place that doesn't get any bonus seconds after what seemed a big effort from the team. At least we randomly got the KoM jersey for one day

Maybe the hardest stage/final climb ends with 100s of riders in s.t.
Vansevenant in 15th was anonymous but hopefully can do more in the next days.
Denz attacking for whatever reason was funny to see. Hopefully though he won`t be seen as leader.
Herklotz underperforming easily I guess. Any non flat rd he should fight for win and land minimum on the podium.
Though obviously MAL is a worthy winner here anyway! |
