Just 8 teams (so far) asked for a wildcard this season, which results in quite a few open slots.
3 or 4 teams haven`t send in a PM or an updated sheet, so they can later get into the slots if wildcards were planned.
And Lotto - Caloi can grab a 3rd classic as their prio list wasn`t long enough!
For the 8 teams it was a rather solid picking as many got all their top choices.
For both Ekoi and Lotto it is their GT debut while Popo4ever is finally back there with Tryg the other team. The Giro is free for late interest.
Only Popo4Ever, Lotto and Tryg went for the monuments and got 2 each. Only Paris Roubaix without bigger interest.
Stage Race and Classic wise a bit of mixed interests as for once even the TT events showed high priorities. Right now only Tasmania and Praha Karlovy Vary Praha is remaining untouched.
Amount wise per team it`s about on the same level as last year with a lot more interest (in fact 9 teams wanted to ride a GT!). But priorities obviously went easier in 2024.

7/8 new planner files were send out to your dropbox. I added WC_ to the file to avoid overwrite anything you might have started already.
Lotto Caloi will follow once having selected their last classic.
Same obviously for those teams, that are yet to decide if going for the remaining wildcards or not. |

It`s been some time since this happened the last time. I can only remember Fenian at one point 10 years ago maybe with his PCT team around Cunego iirc.
Due to low interesting in GT wildcards this season, one team with the needed budget left decided to go for the Giro d'Italia wildcard spot making it at least one WC team.
The team is Sony - Force India and I really hope it gives Daan Olivier a chance to race it! |

Is there a particular reason why so many spots are left empty? Do the teams that applied for wildcards have no interest in a 4th or 5th classic?
A Big Thank You To All MG Reporters!

It was decided to keep the amount of race days for WC teams around the same level as in the past.
Basically some kind of WC money - WC rd ratio. |

I know this isn't the suggestions thread, but I've always disagreed with how this is done. If you pay for it, you should get it. So if teams want to race more races that have spots open, I think they should get it.
Alternate solution: Let other teams with some remaining budget use that money to get a discounted starting spot in the races that still have room.
Another thing that has annoyed me in the past was that if you payed for every race and another team only payed for classics for example, the team that only wanted classics always got more classics because the first team had more races anyway. I don't think it should work that way because every team that payed for something should get the same chances for a certain category.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Agreed with all of this, even though it helps me for this year that it's been more limited.

I’ll be happy to race in whatever available race there is in a category I can afford (don’t know if that is 0 though). Could also withdraw a small fee from next seasons budget if it is more fun to have full Wildcards :-)

1) It could be made this way to always fill it up no matter how many teams there are. My consideration was that it should be about equally fair no matter if in a season of 15 or 6 PCT teams going for a wildcard. You kind of know what to expect then rd wise.
2) Already happening. e.g. Sony asked for a GT afterwards and got it. Obviously you must have remaining budget or change training plans to free up some budget.
@SotD: So feel free to check if you have budget left and you might get some wildcards. But it can`t be taken from next years budget
3) Something that I might consider next season. So far it was like, Team A has the full pack, already getting lots of high priority races and race days for reduced price when just comparing single packs vs. the full one.
Team B might only ask for classics and might have a bit more chance on his priorized races and/or might get a single classic in addition (usually only happening in classics mainly). I admit, that this kind of might be seen unfair for the full pack, which should probably be treated equally in every category, so might consider this in future. That said, it`s rather difficult whenever there are 12+ teams asking for wildcards and they are all used as then it`s hard to match it for all teams, so that each team has equal amount of wildcards/racedays. A lot easier in years like this with pretty much free options everywhere.
But yes, the way it`s given can be considered if people agree that it`s not ideally done so far. |

Tour of Northern Europe was on my priority list, so given I have a cobbles squad which could do with some additional RDs and no conflicting races anyway I could (and would) easily fit it in my schedule if nobody else wants to take the second WC there.
It's a similar case with the Giro (could send a squad there without any changes in other races or with minor changes to adept my TdF sqaud) though I assume the GT wildcard fee is for one GT only.
