LETS GO! Also love the fact that he won it by fending for himself and not being delivered by a train in the final!

Oh my gosh he did it. Beautiful.
Tour history in the making.

Ollfardh
Nothing but respect for what he accomplished.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

No words. Records like that are not supposed to be broken, ever. You're not supposed to win sprints at 39, let alone win Tour de France sprints. He is the greatest sprinter of all time, definitively. No words. He's my hero and i'm going to bask in this moment for the rest of the summer.

So many memories from the early 2010s came flooding back today when Cav lifted his arms in celebration. What a moment, especially after everything he has gone through to get to this point in history. A true living legend.

Can't believe he actually did it. If you had told me 5 years ago he would be here, I wouldn't have believed you. If you had told me 10 or 15 years ago, I would have hated you. But now I can just marvel. Not just the longevity, but to come back after several down years and really fight for this, then to crash out last year and do it all again. Just spectacular. Been watching him since I was 8 years old, so many other legends have come and gone, but he remains on top.

So, does Vingegaard has any fans left at this point?

I had no problem with his riding. He was clearly the weaker rider so why play into your rival's hands and make it a mano-a-mano kind of thing if you don't have to?

Or is that not the point?

Great stage again, with lots of action.
Should Vingegaards go all in, in a situation out of his terrain, on a teammates bike....Off course not.

Ollfardh
I'm not saying he should be riding here, I'm just wondering if cycling fans would prefer to see him win the race over more attacking riders?

For me personaly, it sometimes feels like watching Chris Froome again (and I say that with massive respect for both of them). Only focus on Le Tour, not riding Ardennes or other classics he should be able to handle. Everything he does is calculated, not with the power meter but with very defensive riding except when there's a clear advantage. The extremely good team mates as well (though I must admit UAE also stepped up this year).

Again, I respect Vingegaard for his abilities, but I find it hard to cheer for him when there's guys like Pogacar and Evenepoel around. And yes, I know we've been spoiled the last few years by a few top riders who always want to race no matter what Smile

Well, if Vingegaard is here to win, he has to attack at some point. Pogi is going to attempt again and again and will most likely take more time in some situations, just like previous years. If Evene will attempt attacks in the high mountains, remain to be seen, but I doubt it. I think he will struggle at the hardest stages and hope to take enough time in the last stage, to get a podium or better. As you mention UEA is very strong this time and the most likely is that Pogi will win. I’m not sure with the others, still a lot of ? at this point. I’m danish and will always cheer for a Dane, but I think Pogi is a very likable rider and I can understand anyone cheering for him. I do anytime Vingegaard is not in the race.
Anyway a lot of mountains left and no guarantee that Rodríguez, Landa, Roglič or one of the UEA boys can’t push Vinge or Evene or both down from the podium. Not to mention crashes and all that shit that can change anything in a second.

Ollfardh
That crash was just BS. How on earth did they allow the peloton to pass there?

Is Sky training really the tactic to break Vingegaard? Pog has the better acceleration and UAE had the big numbers advantage even with Ayuso out. Jonas is just getting a free ride right now

I understand Pog v. Jonas is the main act, but didn't the Tour used to show the battle for the podium and top 5 a bit too? It's like they have no cameras behind at all.

There has been a bit about Rodriguez and Landa on the ITV broadcast, but I can understand why the podium fight doesn't have much coverage given it is just Evenepoel being (quite easily) best of the rest...

Forever the Best
Pogacar 39:58 Plateau de Beille apparently. 3:30 faster than Pantani. At the end of a very tough stage. This was probably the greatest climbing performance of all time.
