Already a first favourite in this first team preview. Matej Mohoric finished 4th, 6th, 7th, 11nd and 15th in the last 5 editions.
The support will come from Takeaki Amezawa, who finished 25th himself last year.

Jay McCarthy is another rider with a lot of experience in Liège. He finished seven times in the top-30, 12th was his best result in 2020.
This season he already showed his form in Luxembourg (8th) and Amstel Gold Race (15th).

Binance has a duo leadership with Kwiatkowski and Sagan. Sagan won here ofcourse in 2018 and 2020 and he finished 8th in the Amstel Gold Race this year.
Kwiatkowski was 7th in Grand-Duché this year and finished 8th in LBL last year.

Alex Aranburu looks like the leader of Carlsberg-Danske Bank. He opened his hill season with a 7th spot in Amstel Gold Race this year.
His minor stamina and acceleration skills could play a role on the longer Belgian hills.

Slovenia-based Cedevita leans on David Gaudu in this race. He finished top-20 in both Grand-Duché and Amstel.
That looks like a reasonable goal for LBL as well.

He already showed his good form in Amstel with a second place behind Gidich.

Miguel Angel Lopez is the top favourite on paper. Last year, that resulted in a dissapointed 16th spot.
He will rather hope for a form repeat from 2021, where he finished second after Vakoc. The Colombian already gained confidence this season in Grand-Duche (2nd) and Amstel (4th).

We continue with another favorite in Alexey Lutsenko. He finished on the podium in 2020.
And in 2017, 2019 and 2021 he made at least the top 10. This year time for an outlier?

In 2021 he won the edition by winning a sprint in a large group (17). Last year he came third after Kinoshita and Turgis.

Lidl Cycling will count on Sean De Bie to score here. The Belgian will be supported by strong co-leaders Barguil and Bettiol.
De Bie has some mixed results on home soil in Liège: 17th in the last 2 editions, but he finished 2nd in 2020 and 4th in 2017.

In both Grand-Duché and Amstel, the Japanese had to be satisfied with a place just outside the top 10. Everything on Liège again this year?

Rabobank will put their eggs in the basket of Italian Davide Formolo. His best result here was 7th in 2021.
He also was 6th in Amstel this year. His supporting cast consists of Champoussin (15th Grand-Duché) and Evenepoel (25th Amstel).

Team Popo4Ever p/b Morshynska is the first wildcard team. They will count on Eduard Beltran and homegrown Mark Padun.
Beltran finished top-15 on two occassions here in Liege. He needs a excellent day to reach the same this year.

This puts the lead in the hands of Valentin Madouas, who finished 18th in Liège last year.

The Latvian Toms Skujins is leading Tinkoff - La Datcha Team. He has done well here in the past, on the podium in 2016 and 2018.
After that the results decreased with a 6th, 11th and 19th place. This year seems to be the last chance to go for the podium again.

Very extensive preview, thank you!

Mohoric was brilliant in the Ardennes last season. Amstel showed it will be more difficult this season, which is expected with the world class fields being around. The goal must be a top 10, but also hoping for more. Amezawa is our wildcard here, who hopefully gives us some minor depth points, similar to his 25th place last year.

Looking forward to this one, should be a thriller looking at the startlist!

That looks like a reasonable goal for LBL as well.

Theoretically I think LBL favors Aranburu more than Amstel, though it will be extremely difficult to outdo his 7th place there. A top 10 would be fantastic, a top 20 is necessary. The higher the better, obviously considering the monument scoring scale matters more. These are races where we don't expect much, so any time we can steal some points above our projection, it gives us headway in the relegation fight.

Thanks for the preview!

I have zero faith in Koretzky anymore. It seems as if the game version is absolutely no good with his stat combo. Maybe Spanopoulos or Soulious Can get a top 20 on a good day.

Hopefully Gidich can shine here as well, as this is also a goal race. I brought quite a strong support squad with Sosa and Quita. Thanks for the preview!

Another horrible Koretzky performance. Once more he is at the level of Soulious who's a domestique.

Thanks for a great report!

Sucks that MAL once again misses here, but he tried. Lovely to see that JPH gets his win after he basically restructured his entire team this transfer season to get De Bie!

Ah shit. Guess i at least achieved the goal here but Lopez once again played the final badly by attacking way too early. 7th is really not that good.

Congrats jph!

Very happy with Formolo's result and it could have been even better given how close that finale was. Not so happy when I realize someone who is probably going to be one of our relegation battle rivals got the win. Congrats, jph!

Good to see Gerts somewhat in the mix as well with a top 20 finish. A rare occurrence for him in the hills this season. Remco and Champoussin didn't score too well, but it looks like they played a crucial role in helping Formolo to that 4th place so definitely happy with that as well.

Mohoric seemed to be quite active relatively early in the finale, marking a couple of the big moves. Very happy with that, but it clearly cost him coming to the sprint, as he had nothing left, it seemed. 12th is disappointing, while 17th for Amezawa and being with the group of favourites, was better than expected.

Congratulations on the win, jph! Straight out of the relegation zone, I guess! Skujins in 2nd place definitely shows Mohoric was in with a fighting chance for the podium, but not meant to be this time around.

baseballlover312
Aranburu looked good for a while but fell off at the end. I guess ultimately almost all of the riders ahead of him are better on paper, so hard to really complain. The lack of depth on the monument points scale isn't great for us, but that's just the reality of the lineup we sent.

Congrats to jph and thanks for the report!

Really happy with 8th from Borges all things considered. He's got the kick to deliver in these sorts of finishes but he's not the strongest pure Puncheur compared to the others in the Top 10. His best result of the season so far. Mas outside the Top 30 is a little disappointing but still a few points.

Thanks for the report and congrats to jph on the win!
