Martin Hvastija:

We simply didn't have the sprinting consistency from Enger which we wanted. Two 6th places in 5 stages is something we have to improve upon. His final placement was somewhat improved in the epilogue. The rest of the squad did a more or less solid job in the time-trial.

Race score: 6/10

Martin Hvastija:

We had good success here last year with a late attack so we decided against bringing Enger or Rajovic. Instead we have our top rouleurs here with Siric, Groselj and Poljanec. Hopefully one of them can come up with a good result. The rest of the team are young riders gaining experience.

Well, unlike you I have to hope the late attackers aren't successful this time, given that we're sending our sprinter Wink
But the rouleurs seem to like the course, so especially Siric could definitely be in for a big result!

This is one of the few races where we expect to compete for a top result. We have never had such time-trialing quality before and we are bringing our best setup here. We know how time-trials work, we need good form on the day.

Would be cool to see some teamed up action in Australia between our teams.

Also a really good lineup in Copenhagen. Makes me wonder whether that TTT plan was decided after transfers started or why you didnt pick a sponsor goal there?

Yep, that's a PT-level TTT lineup, clearly something else than what we have in PCT. I guess a podium should be possible on a good day, fingers crossed Smile

You got your wish and Siric was useless.

Would be cool, but I'm afraid I don't have the setup to make it happen.

The answer is quite simple: I don't plan for transfers

Seeing the preview I hope we don't finish below 4th.

We got Jonathan Croes in the early breakaway, but there is where our involvement in the race pretty much ended. We were poorly positioned in the final part of the race. We need to do better next time to follow or start attacks. Groselj was our only point scorer with 20th place.

It's been an indifferent start to the season. Tasmania didn't go according to plans as Tao Geoghegan Hart and especially Tadej Pogacar were completely marginalised with the way the race went. Even so we were in position to score a good amount with our time-trial specialists, but Damien Howson needed to do much more than 15th place. Qatar was mostly within expectations. Enger probably should finish a bit higher and have more than 2/5 top 10 stage results, but 10th place wasn't far off where he realistically belongs.

The Great Ocean race was simply an exercise in futility as we didn't even try to go for any kind of result. Overall the results are a solid way to start life in PT, but we did put all our best riders on the road and wanted to see a bit of a better return. We need to improve in the month of February.

Race Highlights

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/PT/Malmo/34.jpg

Cedevita were the last team across the finish line, but fast enough to finish 2nd

Martin Hvastija:

We did what we wanted to do here. We were slated as the 2nd best team and even though it was only by a fraction of a second we were able to finish according to projections. It's nice to see the work we put in time-trialing pay off and hopefully we can carry on like this.

Race score: 9/10

Marko Polanc:

We have two main goals for this race. First we're aiming at a stage podium with Enger on stages 2 and 3. We don't have a lead out rider, but Groselj will be tasked with helping him out the best he can. He and Howson will also target the prologue. After that we switch our focus to Tadej and the GC. It won't be easy, but we'll try to crack the top 10 and of course take the U25 classification.

Great result in Copenhagen, good to see that the favourite teams really delivered Smile

Pogacar in Tirreno definitely makes sense, with Paris - Nice having more TTs and less mountains - Top 10 should definitely be on the cards if he's got decent legs. And maybe Enger has a shot at taking yellow on S2, as he should do pretty well in the prologue and then should be able to survive the late bumps on the second day.

Good luck!

Martin Hvastija:

This is a very important sponsor race for us and we also need to come out of it with a lot of points. Tao is our unquestioned leader for top 10 in GC, but we will try to aim even higher. We also have high hopes for Craddock, while Borisavljevic and the other TT specialists can hopefully contribute depth depending on how the race pans out. Rajovic will try for some top 10 results on the flat stages.

Two nice teams for these two races! Excited about Hart in Paris-Nice, particularly.

Good luck on them.

Gorazd Stangelj:

We are not going to have the same lofty goals this season that we usually had in hilly races the past few years. We have a young race squad led by David Gaudu and Jernej Svab who will try to score more than minimum points. The rest are here to learn and play a support role.

See you in France! I don't really see where Tao would lose time on that course, so a strong result could be in the cards. Would love to see that!

Fabianski
Agree with cunego, Paris - Nice looks pretty much tailor-made for strong uphill riders with a good TT skill. Stage 3 should be the only road stage where some notable time gaps might occur, and Tao should made the front group there. Hilly stages in general haven't been decisive this year, so his lack of punch (compared to others) shouldn't hurt him. We'll still try to test him, although our riders should be no match Wink

Grand-Duché shows the sad truth that Beltran's time on your team is over - and there's no replacement for him yet. Gaudu has a good history of overperforming, though, will be interesting to see what he can get there Smile
