It's 10pm over here and he died during the previous night at his home in Auckland. He had kidney problems resulting in an early retirement and played through much of this pain which eventually led to him getting a kidney transplant from a radio host here in NZ. He struggled with this and if I remember correctly rejected it initially, I don't know the exact details.
He is known for being an absolute beast of New Zealand rugby, famous for running over an English player on his way to the try line in the 1995 World Cup in South Africa. Feel free to look it up if you want, it's always funny to see.
He also has done a lot of charity work since retirement, notably with those affected by the same problem he had. A humble man remembered and honoured by his peers and by the country as a man known not only for his physical strength on the field but his work off it as well.

Here's the video, that man was something else. Sad to hear of his passing, especially since it's so surprising. True legend, both on and off the pitch, RIP.
The first and only real global superstar of rugby. Imagine what he could have done if he was fully fit for a whole career instead of playing through a debilitating illness for a handful of years.

The 2023 Mens Rugby World Cup kicks off Friday 8th Sept in Paris.
I love rugby, a lot. I'm super excited for the World Cup, more so than 2015 when the UK hosted, more so than 2019 when England was a favourite. Because this WC is going to be hyper competitive.

Should be a really competitive tournament with various sides from all parts of the world looking in and out of form. The home nation definitely one to watch and will want that win in home turf!

It was a cracking opening weekend with some excellent games (go watch Wales vs Fiji as the standout highlight). And based on last night (well worth watching as well) this weekend is shaping up nicely, especially Samoa vs Chile & Australia vs Fiji
