Hoping to get the draft up and running in about 3 hours time, all being well.
Will any big names be featured from MG history?
These are the strongest riders aged 35+, who did have a team last season, but do not have a ride right now. Does retirement beckon for all of them?

Drafted riders can make key contributions to teams - with McEvoy and Tzortzakis leading the way last season.
Older riders proving to be successful with all of the top 14 scorers now at least 30 years of age. Many have declined, which may explain their lack of contract - although Costagli got another year at the age of 35! Three of the top scorers did not decline. Piaskowy and Miller have contracts, but Martijn Tusveld does not. Will that change?
If not Tusveld, perhaps another in the list will be drafted for a second successive year.

The first rider to be drafted is a brand new rider to the MG, gaining their first experience in the colours of Babymetal Cycling. They'll be doing so against one of the most experienced riders in the entire peloton. Former World Champion, multiple time finisher in the Top 10 of the Individual PT standings. Boasson Hagen rides on!
Tracz is another newcomer, while Ganjkhanlou last rode in 2020 - when he was drafted as well! He scored 3 points for Trans cycling team that season.

Interesting first choices. Nice to see people choosing to develop some more riders Had never noticed the Iranian, I like that pick as well. Hope Hagen can still do something in his (surely now?) final year as a contracted rider

Next up we have the 3rd Liechtenstein rider to receive a contract for the season. Banzer's last races were the National and World U23 Championships in 2019, having ridden for Popo4Ever that season. He actually won both National Championships, but never got the opportunity to wear the colours in the following season.
Livyns is new to the MG, while next we have a rider who last year was a stagiare in CT with Bordeaux Métropole - Euskotren. Is drafted rider a step up from stagiare? Get paid less, have to do more work! Well, at least he has a good chance of levelling up this season.
Finally, this is not Batmunkh's first post season rodeo. Not least the fact that he got drafted last year too!

We have a high quality selection of riders in the next set.
Timofey Kritskiy has finished in 2nd overall in both the Giro and Vuelta, in a long career primary in Tinkoff colours. A season in PCT in 2022, and now in CT for 2023 to bow out of cycling.
All four of these riders had full contracts last season. Talacka was with Bonduelle - Eesti Energia in CT.
Gaetan Pons statistically is the best rider available to be drafted this season. The highest OVL of any rider still available. He is the Luxembourg National Champion too!
Zhihui Jiang is not a national champion, but that's because time trials are just too long for him - he is a prologue specialist. He is also the first rider to come up so far who was first choice for a team with a later draft position.

Thought hard about a Pons reunion, but always liked him more in CT. Think he can be a sneaky scorer there with the right planning.

So far only Deelstra doesn’t make sense to me. Even as a fully maxed rider he’s worse than all of the others
Was surprised Kritskiy and Hagen didn’t get picked in the FA, while Pons IMO is the strongest pick this far, with Jiang not far behind.

Age can be cruel. In 2021, Romain Bardet finished in the Top 100 of the ProTour individual standings contributing 383 ranking points to Isostar - Specialized's division winning tally. Last season was less lucrative, only contributing 38 points as Crabbe-CC Chevigny were relegated from PCT to CT. And now relying on the draft to keep in the game! Tafjord give him one last opportunity.
Davur Magnussen comes into this season stronger than ever - he progressed to Level 4 last year, while riding for Assa Abloy. He scored 13 ranking points then - can he get more in CT? He is another draft pick with a preference for prologues.
Two regional talent picks then to complete this set.
