1. Name a job that's involved in sports, excluded professional athletes and trainers.
First question has low impact, only the doctor gives more than a point, but it's just 2.
Same in the low round where the lifeguard with 2 is over all 1s.
H | | L | | Doctor | 2 | Lifeguard | 2 | Physioterapist | 1 | Secretary General of NOC | 1 | Manager | 1 | Referee | 1 | Referee | 1 | Greenkeeper | 1 | Reporter | 1 | Fixer | 1 | Commentator | 1 | Stadium stewart | 1 | Ski waxer | 1 | Mascot | 1 | Guy installing hidden motor | 1 | | |
2. Name a job that is carried out in an hospital.
This time the doctor worth much more points, and everyone who took it occupy first six position in ranking.
The question wasn't built well for low round and every player takes 1 point.
H | | L | | Doctor | 6 | Caterer | 1 | Surgeon | 1 | Mortician | 1 | Car park warden | 1 | Stretcher-bearer | 1 | Sitcom actor | 1 | Janitor | 1 | | | IT’er | 1 | | | Brain surgeon | 1 | | | Charity fundraiser | 1 | | | Mindhunter | 1 |
3. Name a job that needs to be carried offshore.
Two answers split the best option, the captain and the oil platform worker got 3 each. The fisherman is surprisingly is stuck at 1.
Everyone gave a different job in the low, but despite it jandal is awarded of a first of several invalid answers , we can't consider Aquaman a real job.
H | | L | | Captain | 3 | Diver | 1 | Oil platform worker | 3 | Ocean imaging system specialist | 1 | Fisherman | 1 | Fisherman | 1 | Cross-channel swimmer | 1 | Croupier | 1 | Banker | 1 | Submarine captain | 1 | | | Securety inspector of offshore wind park | 1 | | | Assistant bunker operation surveyor | 1 | | | Aquaman | invalid |
4. Name a job that's a typical dream as a child.
Another 3/3 points like best option. Fireman and astronaut are the dreams of many children, and this isn't a surprise.
The fireman leads also the lows, and while other players took other jobs that more or less can be child's dream, jandal takes again an unreal job gaining a second +5.
H | | L | | Fireman | 3 | Fireman | 2 | Astronaut | 3 | Teacher | 1 | Cyclist | 1 | Minecraft streamer | 1 | Barbie | 1 | Doctor | 1 | Sleep researcher | 1 | Train driver | 1 | | | Lifeguard | 1 | | | Beach | invalid |
5. Name a tool you can use with one hand in manual labor.
Question 5 is the other one which gave an important verdict. The hammer is chosen by 6 players, against three 1s.
In the lows the screwdriver is the only tool called more than once, and for jandal third invalid answer not giving an option if not the immagination (yes, I was brutal with him this round ).
H | | L | | Hammer | 6 | Screwdriver | 2 | Monkey wrench | 1 | Chisel | 1 | Motorised tape measure | 1 | Glue gun | 1 | Prosthetic arm | 1 | Kettle | 1 | | | Pencil | 1 | | | Drumstick | 1 | | | I’m too mature for this | invalid |
Overall
Nemolito is the only one playing a perfect round, and the podium is filled by Cunego and kandesbunzler who missed just a single point to it. TMM and knockout close the rank with a 5 points round.
In a very poor low round, knockout and Croatia share the win with a perfect round, everyone else, except for jandal (with a big gap for his 3 invalid answers), on the podium in third place.
Nemolito is the winner also of the HiLo this time, in a classification that doesn't change compared to High one for first three places. Knockout with a perfect 0, while jandal and TMM got a minus.
Idle ride for Imladrik, that lose 4 points behind cunego, while Nemolito approaches the final round very close to the top. Kandesbunzler id the last one in the game, but needs a miracle for the win, still possible a podium place. SportingNonsense overtake TMM with half rounds played, knockout enter the game very late and sit at the bottom with 5.
The fight for the Low game is still open with TMM leading one point over Cunego. Nemolito leads the pack behind, with kandesbunzler, Imladrik and Croatia to the assault.
(I admitted to the ranking with the worst score who missed only one round here)
In the HiLo Cunego goes on his valuable march, now 7 points over the second place occupied by Imladrik and Nemolito. Kandesbunzler few points behind hoping for a stumble in front.

wanted to make a round with fewer options, it can be interesting in lows, and it also can put some pressure in highs, hopefully.

I'm sorry, Barbie is a real job and Beach isn't? I'd be outraged but in the context of the movie that's actually quite funny
Spoiler Thanks for allowing "Mindhunter" at least

To be clear, Barbie is a Lawyer, a Doctor, a Physicist, and even The President

Looking very good for the overall now, happy with that. I would agree however that Beach is 100% a job that a child can dream of, which I think was the point - don't tell me that of all the kids coming out of the Barbie movie, not a single one goes "damn, Beach looks like an awesome job, I want to do that when I grow up"

That round 4 set of question was really interesting. Might not be ideal for low round scoring but the most fun set of questions in a long while.
Out for R5.

1. Name a musical note (in solfege naming convention).
No surprises, the first musical note DO takes 6 votes, and only TMM is different chosing the FA.
Spread answers in the lows, thanks also to semitones which were chosen by two players, while third note MI got 2.
H | | L | | Do | 6 | Mi | 2 | Fa | 1 | Do | 1 | | | La# | 1 | | | Fa# | 1 | | | La | 1 | | | Re | 1 |
2. Name an element of drum set.
Bass drum is the most convenient pick with 3. You can play drums with 2 sticks, like 2 points. Other choices Snare and a bolt got 1.
Perfect low-q2 here, with everyone chosing a different piece of the drum set.
H | | L | | Bass drum | 3 | bits on the bottom of the legs that stop the metal scraping on the floor | 1 | sticks | 2 | Crash cymbal | 1 | A bolt | 1 | Hi-hat | 1 | Snare | 1 | pedal | 1 | | | Snare | 1 | | | Bass drum | 1 | | | paddles | 1 |
3. Name a musician who died 27.
Kurt Cobain is apparently the most known singer who found death at the age 27, followed by Amy Winehouse just a point behind (3 vs 2).
Only 1 point for '70s artists Jimi Hendrix and Chris Bell.
Amy Winehouse gets (unfortunately) revenge in the lows over Cobain, who get 1 with Janis Joplin, Brian Jones from the Stones and the Japanese Kami. Croatia get invalid answer, since trekbmc figures as missing person, and the proof of his death are still missing.
H | | L | | Kurt Cobain | 3 | Amy Winehouse | 2 | Amy Winehouse | 2 | Kurt Cobain | 1 | Chris Bell | 1 | Brian Jones | 1 | Jimi Hendrix | 1 | Kami | 1 | | | Janis Joplin | 1 | | | trekbmc | invalid |
4. Name a device used to reproduce music.
Speakers and smartphone are most used devices by PCMdaily's members to hear music, just a single pick for the olds CD, vinyl and can-on-a-string.
Another perfect Q in the low round, with a mix of speakers, readers and memory devices, all used to reproduce music.
H | | L | | Speakers | 2 | iPod shuffle | 1 | Smartphone | 2 | Discman | 1 | CD | 1 | Phonograph cylinder | 1 | Vinyl | 1 | Music box | 1 | Can-on-a-string | 1 | Walkman | 1 | | | Blutooth speaker | 1 | | | USB stick | 1 |
5. Name a Pink Floyd member.
Finally the dispute between Waters and Gilmour comes to an end, and it's the man of "The Wall" who takes more consents, 3 vs 2. One point also for the unforgotten crazy diamond Syd Barrett, and member-as-a-name Floyd.
Clamorous results on the lows, where every player chose one by one all the 6 members without repetitions, included the founder and immediately retired member Bob Klose. TMM goes on with first part of the band name, that unfortunately isn't a member (Pink - not P!nk ! )
H | | L | | Roger Waters | 3 | Rick Wright | 1 | David Gilmour | 2 | Syd Barrett | 1 | Syd Barrett | 1 | David Gilmour | 1 | Floyd | 1 | Roger Waters | 1 | | | Bob Klose | 1 | | | Nick Mason | 1 | | | Pink | invalid |
Overall
No perfect rounds this time, but Imladrik and jandal were very close to it, missing just one point. They share the win with Cunego third 1 point behind, the rest is very close to the podium and only TMM is quite far with a 5 points round.
Jandal sits also in the splitted seat of the winners in the lows, now with a perfect round, together with Cunego and kandesbunzler. Very low scores for all here, except who got invalids, something a bit unexpected due to a couple of closed questions.
Jandal is the obvious winner of the HiLo, in front of Cunego second and Imladrik/kandesbunzler thirds. TMM at the bottom with an high negative score.
Cunego is the deserved winner of the game, he was in all but one round in the first two places of the ranking, leading it from the start to finish. Imladrik with a quite solid game is as well the deserved silver medal, missing only an high points answers in the whole game, that proably costef him the win. Good game also for Nemolito third and kandesbunzler who are the only two players inside an useful gap to contest the match. Merit note to jandal who won 2 rounds playing only 4, he had a poor first round and maybe that second round could gave him a safe podium spot.
TMM loses the lead in the last round, overtaken by Cunego. He wins also the low game with 3 players getting second score behind him by 3 points. No surprised by last places for players who got some invalid answers during the game.
With the win of the High round and the Low round, no chance we can have a different winner in the HiLo. It's again Cunego at the top, with a huge gap over others. Imladrik distances Nemolito by one point on the last round taking the second place alone. Kandesbunzler close to the podium 4th. At the bottom TMM again with a negative score.

few thoughts:
- I didn't study questions that fit good for low rounds, not everytime, and that results in a lower quality of the game.
- I think for low rounds you need questions with a pack of answers not higher than number of players plus 2/3 alternatives, but also a balanced number and sometimes lower, can be a good challenge.
- I was thinking to play final round as a "Chain-round", where Q2 is based on the answer of Q1, Q3 from Q2, Q4 from Q3 and Q5 from Q4, but in the end I decided to play a classic round. It would have been used in the case of a tie at the top ranking as bonus round, but this wasn't the case. (it should work only for HIgh round).
- It needs questions least interpretable as possible for low rounds, to minimize the risk of invalid answers.
example of chain-round:
1. name a current WT team.
2. name a rider now racing for Q1 team.
3. name a WT race won by Q2 rider.
4. name a retired rider who won Q3 race.
5. name a team which Q4 rider raced for.

Thanks a lot for hosting! I'm happy with the result, of course, winning both individual categories as well as the overall is pretty neat. Really enjoyable questions for the high round, and as you mentioned sometimes a bit too broad for the low round. I have some ideas for the next game already with that in mind, we'll see how that goes. I'll start the next round some time tomorrow, I think.
Again, thanks for the nice and timely rounds and thanks to everyone playing along!

Open ended questions like used in R4 are imo by far the most fun questions even when they often don't make a good low round - "pick an entry from this list of things" often feel boring to me especially if you have to google to even know some things

Would like to get a few opinions on that. I had a few rounds prepared that are exactly that: a fixed list of things from which to pick, and which you at times (though not always) had to google for. I thought it could be an interesting way to focus a bit more on the low round, at least as a test game. But if most people wouldn't feel encouraged to join that (quadsas also indicated sth like that), I might just go for a regular round.

Well alright, let's just try it a round or two and you can still give feedback on if those kinds of questions work for you or not.
It feels almost cliché but let's start with a cycling round:
cunego's Round 1
Cycling
1. Name a rider who has won a Grand Tour in the 90s.
2. Name a rider who has won at least two monument titles in the 2000s (can be the same monument twice).
3. Name a rider who has won either the Men's Elite Road Race or the Men's Elite Time Trial of the World Championships at least twice in the 21st century.
4. Name a (non-NC) race held on the African continent that had at least one European PCT or CT team competing in 2023.
5. Name one of the European PCT or CT teams that have competed in those races.
Like I said, might require some googling, but also maybe not? Anyway, let's set the deadline for Monday, August 21st, 8pm daily time.
