Tour de France 2023
whitejersey
I really do like this Tour opener a lot more than the classic travel stages into mass sprints. No matter how exciting the Danish Grand Depart was last year in terms of an athmosphere perspective the sporting implications were nowhere to be seen due to no cross winds on the stage across Storebæltsbroen. Also years where you have Roubaix stages etc. in the first week I also enjoy a lot.

What a stupid way to end his race (career?)
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

One hell of a finish leading into the mass sprint. Very happy with a win for Mads! Van Der Poel looks somewhat dangerous when he leads out Phillipsen to a certain extent in high speed, but does not look as bad iin slowmotion tbf.

Is it just me thinking, Mads was the first sprinter winning without changing his line to cut of rivals, this year. Very fair sprint.

Philipsen won every sprint without a line, I heard also WVA quite annoyed by his behaviour. He is likel the fastest, but he always plays at the limit (sometimes VDP too).

Anyway, despite it's known from time, I'm still shocked in WVA speed peak, with his climbing skills, and viceversa. crazy

True WvA is unreal, again Smile

Incredible racing yet again, insane duel between these two, going to be interesting to see what the situation is like after the rest day!

Hopefully Pogacar will be fresher in the 2nd and 3rd week than Jonas. I think that the first week serve for him as a base to get those racing days in the legs. Still not sure why Vingegard is claiming that 3week suits him better.
Btw Pogacar accelerations are so nice to watch. Vingegard is way behind in this attribute.
Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the mouth.

firefighting maybe? he has to explain why he is losing every 1vs1 (except Marie Blanque)

It is a new tour completely, so whatever he says he have to prove it first.
But you can't deny the fact that last year he lost every battle to Pog until they hit the higher mountains on stage 11 to Col du Granon. So he can make a case that he was better later in the tour and in the +2000 meter stages. This time he was lucky with Pog's early off day.
If that will be the case again remains to be seen, in many ways Poga seems even stronger this year.
I hope for Janus being a Dane and all that, but Poga is a brilliant rider, no doubt the best rider overall. Lets just hope for a great close race without crash or tech issues , no matter who wins they are both unique, would be a bore if any of them was not in the tour.

but Tourmalet was actually 2nd highest mountain of this Tour....not sure that Jonas is stronger than Tadej on big mountains, last year there was a different tactical situation, well played by jumbo. 1vs1 is much harder

Last year it was entirety of Jumbo vs sole Pogačar, UAE had a bunch of donkeys as doms. No chance that will ever happen again and Pogačar is (to anyone with eyes and a brain) much better rider. Pretty sure on that one stage this year his girlfriend got into a crash and there were also reports of himself being a little banged up, and still only lost a minute. I wish people would stop propping up dudes who really arent challengers like Jonas and appreciate the top 2 rider of all time and await the inevitable GOAT confrontation between Pogi and Remco

Remco is far from Poga/Vingegaard in stage races, as it is now, if he will ever get to that level i cant say.

I don't believe either of them ever raced against Remco in a GT? I mean my instincts give the edge to Pogi as well, but I also wouldn't be completely surprised if Evenepoel limits his mountain losses and takes back time on the time trials.

Same goes for Roglic really, he hasn't faced Pogacar healthy since their epic 2020 battle. It's hard to say how much worse he is.

Can’t say anything for sure, as we don’t know the circumstances of the tour if/when he decides to participate. But my cut says that it has to be unusually long itt, for him to beat either of the two stars of this one, if it was in everyone’s current level. He only beat Mas with 2min in the vuelta, basically from the itt. Both Vingegaard and Poga is way better at time trails. I can really see him beat them in the mountains.
but it is all speculations from both of us, and anyway things will change as it always has, many someone we can’t imagine will beat all tree of them. Just as both Vingegaard and Poga, came out of nowhere.
