Classics Fantasy Game 2023
Ollfardh
Abandon Bennett, Marco really unlucky this season.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Omg, i tought im good, because I saw the Daily time in the right corner Grin So im lucky because the former startlist. Only a Madouas - Molard are the difference.

Ollfardh
No winner selected today, but an impressive 2-3 for the Cobblers!

I'll never get it why the pack apparently throws in the towel with 40km to go already... But that's obviously no excuse for the complete lack of awareness by all my sprinters - Ewan, Walscheid and Welsford all missed out, which is unacceptable. And Ewan didn't even feel like finishing the race, he's really having a disappointing season (except for his 2nd place in GP Monseré). Walscheid has never been useful this year so far, and Welsford did what he could, winning the sprint of the first "chase" group.
So van Lerberghe was my highest finisher, getting 12th place and a couple of assist points. The Quickies didn't play it too smart either, though...

Well, at least not a zero-pointer, now hoping for some better awareness in the next races. Too bad that my currently strongest riders keep on getting pointless podiums in Catalunya and Coppi&Bartali Pfft

Actually some really low scoring in De Panne, Kuurne and Nokere scored more than this WT race. The Paladins score just enough to overtake the 59'ers again. The big winners are the Cobblers, closing in on the top 5 with a top performance. The Nosepickers also win a spot, but can't be entirely happy with how the race went for Jakobsen.

The manager of the Nosepickers is happy with the Philipsen win nonetheless Grin

Jakobsen in fifth and assist points for him and Steimle is something at least, but getting annoyed at Taminiaux pranking me by showing up in races at the last minute. Missed out on his 25th place points + assist points, a shame.

But you did sign him up for this block Grin

No points for 25th though, just the assist.

Yeah, obviously there are none in the classics game, but it'd be funny to have some kind of combined "spring game" Grin
In all seriousness, I obviously knew that the hilly classics are scheduled later, so I'll just have to wait and hope Ciccone, Schmid et al. will be able to somehow conserve their good form until then. Although Schmid will obviously not get any chances to lead the team, with Remco being their obvious captain.

Now hoping to get some smart racing by Ganna and Bissegger tomorrow in E3 - especially Ganna looks to be on fire this spring.

Ollfardh
Obviously some big points for the podium finishers, but the Cobblers with another great team effort are in the top 5 now! Some big losses though with Madouas (8th - list too late), Garcia Cortina (5th - no list sent in) and Jorgenson (4th - let's call it a reverse Taminiaux?).

Hussars increase their lead, Red Lanterns now second and 59'ers third.

So you're telling me I was cheering for Jorgenson for no reason? Pfft

Seems like some real bad luck then, great result two weeks in a row by someone who wasn't supposed to race. I'll forgive Jorgenson if he wins the Ronde.

Not too impressed by Ganna's 10th place, didn't expect this one to be too hard for him. But at least it's worth some points, just like Bissegger's 20th place. Probably wasn't the best suited races for my riders though tbh, so let's hope for some bigger points on Sunday.

Congrats to the three beasts dominating this one!

Horrible round from me, only scoring very minor or assist points. Rankings coming tomorrow, next round due wednesday.

1st, 11th and 13th is pretty good in GW, I'd say. Could have been even better had Mohoric not crashed out with 5km to go and had I had faith in Degenkolb (of course it was one of the last minute changes that I was sure to regret Pfft ), but encouraging to see him do well for the races to come. Add Mohoric in 7th at E3 (that too looked a bit better for a while) and Ackermann in 17th at Brugge, and it should be a decent block. Although I guess others will have scored even better.

Fabianski
Ouch. No clue what happened (didn't follow the race), but my team was just incredibly bad. Last round pick Van Lerberghe being best (yet getting no points, either) pretty much sums up how bad those dudes were. Guess cobbles and I will just never be a good fit.

Block 5 results

We started off in De Panne, where the winner was not selected by the Wolves, so the Cobblers took a nice 2-3 to start a great comeback. In the E3, we saw the big 3 make it an epic race, with the Hornets being the best scoring team, followed closely by the Cobblers.

In Wevelgem we saw Wout van Aert giving the win to Christoph Laporte. While they are team mates in real life, they are not in tihs game. Cunego got the better part of the deal, while Laurens should have a word with his star rider.

Industria was just sad, only small names on the startlist. Ulissi and Hirschi would've scored points, but both were not selected by their managers. For the first time ever in this game, a race did not give any points.

For the rankings, the 59ers retake the lead with their Wevelgem win, overtaking the Hussars. The Cobblers has made a fantastic comeback this round and claim 3rd place for now, just ahead of the Red Lanterns.

The Paladins had a horrible round and drop to 5th place. Without Pidcock, they really don't have a secondary scorer. The Hornets are also back into the game thanks to Wout and follow closely at 6th. The Fainthearts also had a bad round and drop to 7th.

At 8 place we have the W, who also had a great Wevelgem. They can look up now as there's quite a gap behind them to the Nosepickers, who couldn't follow up on a good De Panne. The Gransdmas once again scored minor points only and seem stuck at 10th place.

The Wolves lost some big points this round as their manager seemingly abandoned them, yet they stay 11th for now. At the very bottom, the Bombers and Tulips both scored the same amount of points this round, meaning the Tulips still trail by 3 points.

The Calm before the Storm

29/03/2023 Dwars door Vlaanderen WT2
31/03/2023 La Route Adélie de Vitré CT2
1/04/2023 GP Induráin CT+
1/04/2023 Volta Limburg Classic CT1

While we are preparing for the 2 greatest classics of the year, we have some great preparation races this week. On Wednesday we have the WT race Dwars Door Vlaanderen in Waregem. The big 3 won't be there, but there's plenty of others who will.

On friday we have the La Route Adélie de Vitré, another one of those small French classics. Then on saturday we have races in Spain and the Netherlands. All races where some points can be won before the storm hits on sunday.

Startlists are ... excellent! We're staying away from Italy and that seems to work! Send in your 8 names by wednesday morning 10:00 am sharp!

Well, it looks like we were just very unlucky in Gent - Wevelgem, with Ganna crashing out and De Lie having 3 punctures and some other mechanical troubles... Really sucks to get a zero-pointer when you should have the right guys for a race, but alas, that's cycling...

Hoping for some (or a lot of) better luck in the next block...

7 on the startlist of DdV, none for the other races. Hoping Clarke will try to defend his 3rd place in GP Indurain... I thought I had quite some decent puncheurs for those smaller races, but it looks like they all want to race Itzulia and nothing else :S
