[PT] Zwift Pro Cycling {2022}
baseballlover312
We're very excited to have Girmay race with us this year at Carlsberg! Hopefully Trentin will be able to instill some important knowledge on him in his last year as a leader before passing the torch to the next generation.

I think you knew when taking this transfer direction that relegation would likely be in the cards this year. Yates will continue to impress and Powless should score above his weight (or at least I hope so, since Kamna is the same archetype). But I don't think there are enough points elsewhere to be above 5 other PT teams this year.

However, the future is certainly very bright. Next year in PCT you'll get some wages down, and having gone 1>3 wherever possible now, you'll be in perfect position to level up all your big talents yourself if you desire, and some of them will already be solid pieces then. If you can manage to bounce back and promote next season, you will certainly have the chance to be a title contender in those 3-5 seasons.
RIP Exxon Duke, David Veilleux, Double Feature, and Monster Energy

Well, I have to respect the tank of course Pfft A bit surprised with that Girmay training, probably the best base for crazy training but now feel much better that there isn't an instant Vermeersch-killer out there with them now looking very very similar at maxed Grin

Didn't notice you got Vernon, also a great pick-up. Welten and Dekker are a great Dutch pair, especially a big fan of Dekker and what he can be for Girmay!

Ambitious plans for the future. I see no way of staying up this year, so much should be certain. I'm really looking forward to see what exactly your long-term plan is or how you want to get ready to challenge for the ProTour crown in 3-5 seasons because the way i see it, you will go down this year and probably won't promote back immediately the year after. The main reason why I'm saying that is that i don't see how you can cut Girmays wage down enough to loan him out next year. And without loaning him out, it will be tough to build a squad around Yates and him that is strong enough to be a proper contender for promotion. So by my count, you are expected to promote back to PT only in the third season right before Yates is about to hit his first decline.

I'm looking forward to being proven wrong but that's my current thoughts Embarassed

That said, Congrats to Girmay and good luck! Not looking forward to the training post Wink
A Big Thank You To All MG Reporters!

Damn, the future of Zwift is so bright I can't keep my eyes open when looking at it. For me I guess it's good to have at least one team in PT clearly getting a bit weaker in the short term and having a small chance of staying up. With the right planning I believe you still have a nice chance of scoring some great points in many races though, so I'm looking forward to see how you'll go about that.

How did Welten go for double Dekker?! But awesome to see the two staying together. Plus of course AK on Loan. Still my favourite PT team (with Moser and Isosat), even it will be a long inveitable ride towards relegation.

That is certainly a commited rebuild. I'm confident it'll pay off, but it is a bit ristky, too. I hope you'll take good care of Bini. Or, you know, get bored with him eventually an sell him Pfft

Some interesting choices have been made. That much is for sure.

I somehow cry my eyes out to see you targeting the PT crown in 3-5 years while still selling Errazkin, Fernandes and Visser whom I think would have been key to achieving that. You will need to severely train Powless for him to become a dominant factor, while Errazkin was already so close to a great rider, and Fernandes also a very solid lieutenaint.

There can be no two ways around the fact that you have an amazing team for years to come, once you get across the first bulletins - such as a relegation that might force you to release a couple of those you wanted to build around (or letting go of Yates).

Maybe it's just me, but I think the job of purposely relegation only to come back as a very dominant team is far more difficult without a Herklotz-like talent, than some might think. But I will follow your progression with a lot of interest, and take my hat of for the gamble! I hope it pays if mate!

Not sure if I'm happy with your changes, you invested a lot into a rebuild with good talent surely, but also some that need plenty of years to come through. I would've liked your chances of training Yates to 83 Hill and keeping Eastman + Cattaneo to go for further PT success while building on your good squad.

Training

There was a time during transfers that we thought about go all-in with our superstar puncheur Simon Yates. Then, we loaned out Biniam Girmay and bought Neilson Powless. The money simply ran out and we were left with not much.

It's better than nothing, I guess.

End of Season Review

Who could have seen this coming? Well, pretty much everyone.

We are sad to announce that Zwift Pro Cycling was been relegated from the PT to the PCT after arguably the worst Pro Tour season in MGUCI history. We scored an abysmal 3183 points. Good enough for dead last. So, down we go.

To make matters worse, we failed all five of our goals.

Depressing times, especially with budget cuts looming as the team's salary cap will be cut by a million dollars. There is a lot of tension in the air about who is staying and who is going. Questions we can't answer right now.

But, we are happy to announce that not everything is doom and gloom. Amidst the chaos and disappointment, Mresuperstar still has a vision for the future and a main sponsor that is willing to stick with the team for another season.

We can now confirm Zwift Pro Cycling is returning for the 2023 season!

Now the question becomes how many of them can we realistically keep and which ones we will have to part with ways? Time will tell.

Was that worse than my PT season? But fresh (style) kit, fresh (developing) talents and fresh (renewed) hope going forwards.
And another shoutout for having Akil for a year, 5th highest scorer on a PT team, this is why I'm sure of my own 2023 promotion push Pfft
Plus fun to see Dekker & Welten progressing nicely, even if they havn't contributed much scoring as yet.

This was also on the cards but even if you're left with half of your talent core you should still be fine. No matter what you'll be able to generate a fair amount of money but obviously could run into some issues with renewals fines and everything.

On the talents themselves the shining core is obviously Jorgenson, Girmay and Vernon. I am personally not a fan of turning Jorgenson into a stage racer due to his abysmal recovery, when I was in a part of the bidding for him I envisioned him as a Cancellara type of rider, but going to be interesting to see if he's going to be able to clean up in the shorter stage races with TTs in them because he does have a very interesting skillset, just not for GTs I could fear.

Going to be interesting to follow Quinn and Vermaerke's development after them being a part of our team this year.

Good luck next year, the jersey is lovely!

What an awesome group you have here. Obviously we are going to come into contact in the future with Girmay and Vermeersch the biggest clash which I am looking forward to a lot. Particularly as your training plan makes them super similar whereas perhaps the more obvious path was Girmay with the cobbles advantage and Vermeersch the better sprinter.

A really cool group you're building with some quality riders. That stage racing core looks so nice already next year. Interested to see how your renewals and transfers go, and looking forward to racing with you guys again - was a weird season in 2022 without getting edged out by Simon Yates a million times Pfft Very cool new jersey, loved the orange one and wish it got more time maybe, but the new one is super clean too.

Congrats on the development, after all that was the big goal on the season.

Obviously if you decide to part with any US rider we will have an interest but suspect they are core. given your sponsor.

Really like the new jersey.
