Marek Konwa rode in CT in 2016 and 2017. So another rider who returns after a long break.
Geremie Nzeke is a more frequent racer. and is back to ensure a Cameroon presence in the peloton once again.
Gabor Fejes scored 56 points in CT last year! This came with a flying 3rd in the opening stage prologue of the USA Pro Cycling Challenge, hanging on to 6th overall still by race end.

Eislers didn't do a ton for me as my free rider in 2020, but he still has a good skillset. Maybe he'll be luckier this time around
I think Eislers is not good enough to ever be a scoring sprinter himself. But he has a great leadout skill set imo and Tafjord bought Syver Waersted. Think thats a combo that could work nicely so i love the pick.
When I was in CT neither Eislers nor Bertilsson actually ever even attempted a leadout for AKA, so I barely register plans for leadouts anymore. But hopefully Tafjord have more luck with that.

Awesome to see Nzeke picked up for his last maxed year
24/02/21 - kandesbunzler said “I don't drink famous people."
15/08/22 - SotD said "Your [jandal's] humour is overrated"
11/06/24 - knockout said "Winning is fine I guess. Truth be told this felt completely unimportant."

Mikel Bizkarra is a ProTour champion, and contributed 295 points to Isostar's triumph in 2020. Not bad for a much delayed first seasons of his career!
Mikel Bizkarra: With #121 the Basque climber was a success story, with his amazing performances in Grand Tours. He was brought in to try something in the mountains of GTs and attack at all the big races where we have no leader (or support Phinney), and he did so well in doing exactly that. He followed the path Igor Anton planted for him four years ago in our first Isostar-season, and boy he did impress in the spirit of our basque legend and first promotion hero.
There wasn't so much to note for his 2021 season with Carrefour though, but he gets another year of riding now.
Samuel, don't call me Sam, Welsford. An interesting sprint talent with helpful energy support stats once maxed. A good talent to pick up, and to end the draft with!

The fact that Siskevicius is still avaikable tells me that not a single CT team wants to promote

Well, promotion IS scary. You can relegate (is that even a word?)
Bordeaux is very keen on staying in comfy CT.
And a second Mikel for us. Was very close to take Landa only to have a third and confuse HR a bit more.
Thank you very much SportingNonsense for the descriptions, and all MG administration for this... entertaining? - first transfer season |

Lietaer is another one of those pretty one-dimensional puncheurs, although with far worse acceleration than Besada. Let's see what he can do - if PCM allows him to join breakaways, he could still score some good points.
Vainionpää looks like an interesting cobbles dom once maxed, so why not? Good acceleration definitely won't hurt, either.
Not so sure about Konwa, though. There were still better Mo/Hi hybrids around, but he brings that rare combination of decent cobbles as well. If it's exactly the stat combo the team was looking for, I guess he's a good fit. I'd call him an inferior version of Basso, though
Nzeke at least isn't one-dimensional - but compared to Lietaer and Besada lacks acceleration. Could be a good helper for uphill stages, however.
And Fejes isn't too shabby as a pure TTer, having at least some uphill capacity left even after declining. He clearly isn't a surprising pick given that Oktal seem to be going all-in on TTTs having signed tons of TT quality during transfers already.
Bizkarra still should be of some help in a stage race lineup, but I guess he won't be the attacker he once was anymore. Compared to stronger still available hybrids like Bostner, he at least has a decent acceleration, so breakaways could still be on the cards.
And finally, Welsford. Samuel, not Sam. Well, time to remove that duplicate I guess He doesn't look that bad, actually (given that we're talking about the Pot 5 guy, not about his Pot 3 twin), should grow into a decent sprinter with very nice acceleration
And to conclude this wall of text, huge thanks again to you, SN, for covering the draft with so much detailed information! It was a pleasure, although I hope to be following the next one as a spectator only

Mikel Bizkarra finding a team is absolutely lovely. He was amazing in our PT title winning season, so I love to see him on one more big ride!
Really sad that nobody picked up Tilen Finkst. He would've been easy to level up and has a really nice statline when maxed, better than all other candidates here imo. Also a shame that Jaka Bostner didn't find a team.
Then thanks to SN for an awesome coverage of the draft. Could only re-read it here, but it was a great journey. Reading it afterwards it would've been nice to have an info about the team that picked the rider, but even without it just reading the small presentations was really cool. Great job SN and thanks to all commenting people discussing the picks and making it a very fluent read from the beginning to the end. I loved the draft!

Satisfied with my first draft pick to strength our TT team. Greatly appreciated for SN to present the draft in this very entertaining thread. |

Echoing the thanks of others for some entertaining coverage. Got my first two choices which is nice. Weirdly they both road for Polar last year.
I did intend Welle Jallays, wanted his 74 TT and his very nice 86 race days.

Thanks for the nice coverage!. Since i couldnt be arround for 2nd round it was a nice little journey reading that here.
Also thanks for understanding and flexibility with the problems i caused!
-------
In general I am a bit surprised that i got my #1 and #2 of my list (after my former 1 and 2 were invalid ) . And from the rest of my list barely anyone was picked and most names i read were completely new to me

Good pcks all around, and a good show. Didn't realise, that it was going to be done this way.
I am satisfied with my picks. If I can max out Welsford, he is going to have some really decent stats. |

Great job doing this once again SN. Thanks for all those trips down memory lane
Really happy to see Tzortazkis getting pulled through the circus one last time.
Navardauskas indeed was a nice Festina rider at one time. He had a completely different skillset back then though, as a one-dimensional TT rider. After he left he suddenly became a very solid allround rider to add to the TT stats.
Some nice picks along the way - still a bit surprised with the lack of talents being picked up, but I guess I understand why the need to pull the best possible riders out of the DB is a thing.
Now time to finalize the Virtual CT Team.

Air New Zealand either took a good look at SotD's virtual CT team, or just did a good scouting job Costagli and Nolf might be two of the best potential scorers remaining. Don't like Costagli's backups, and his flat stat is just plain horrible, but he could still get something from breakaways. And a certain Mr. Alarcon showed us last years that backups are overvalued anyway
Nolf is a decent asset for flat cobbled races, even after his 3rd decline. Wasn't on my list because wtf are cobbles, but I guess if he's got a manager with more love for that terrain, he could be a good fit.

Wasnt able to keep track of this but its great to get to read all the context. Glad to see the legendary Bat Monk got a contract this year, despite not needing a bid war thanks for the coverage SN!
