For the conclusion of the 2021 season, the best of the best come together to compete for one of the most prestigeous accolades in cycling: the title of World Champion. This year's edition takes place in the city that never sleeps, as the riders head across the big pond to New York.
It's a flat course, but with some short and steep ramps sprinkled throughout, making it anything but a sure thing for the top sprinters. Speaking of, some of the major favorites include the likes of John Degenkolb, French duo Bryan Coquard and Arnaud Demare, Fernando Gaviria, Caleb Ewan, Dylan Groenewegen and Peter Kennaugh.
But rouleur types will challenge them and certainly try their luck with late attacks. 2019 World Champion Lukasz Wisniowski is a big name to watch, as is his Grieg teammate Mads Pedersen, fellow cobblestone specialists Floris Gerts, Joeri Stallaert and David Per, as well as fast guys who might still feel outmatched in the sprint, such as Luke Rowe, Mark Dzamastagic or Sebastian Lander.
Of course, the elite road race isn't the only event on the calendar. We start out with the B road race, where the top riders like Eduard Grosu, Ingus Eislers or Matti Manninen compete for the title and a spot in the elite race. The best time trialists of the world, including Mads Würtz, Taylor Phinney and Marlen Zmorka compete in the individual time trial, and youngsters will try to make their first big mark on the scene in the U23 races. And not to forget, countries will ride for collective glory in the TTT.

Jumping right in with the B race! Can't ask for much more than two Rwandans in the breakaway. Perera in the Top 15 is solid, he was never going to really compete for the win. Also a nice 20th place by Areruya on this terrain.
Very worthy winner in Kemboi, congrats jph! And also, beautiful scenery, what a nice job by Leon, and thanks for the report Nemolito

Nice race on the B worlds event with all the sightseeing as well. Congrats to Kenya for finding their way into the A race. Beautiful report Nemo!
One thing about the startlists. I'm seeing Adam de Vos in the Portugal TTT line-up, could that be a mistake?
Thanks for all the work put into this, guys!

Kalaba did well enough here, even the B field has some strong sprinters. Let's see if Vesely can do the same in the main RR. Biggest medal chances with Bjerg in the U23 TT though.
Thanks for kicking off the final bit of the season cunego and Nemolito!

Thank you for getting some of the Caribbeans into the U23 events
Good opening race. Less attacks than might be expected, but we know the main race will have strong riders and a deeper field to mix things up.
Lucky Kenya got included with just two riders! Worked well as it meant Kemboi surfed other trains and came around late to win (what a shock that's how the AI played out ).
Cataford looked strong in support of Houle, great work and a Top10 for Canada is still solid.

Good spot. In the original order of the excel file, Portugal and Canada were next to each other, that's where the mixup came from. Fixed it here, should be fine in the startlist files anyway.

Sad for Houle had big hopes. Love Jams having a go, a different day he could have had his moment here and I would’ve gone bananas (in the 2016 Roubaix page 33 sense). Great to see Kemboi winning it for Kenya though, great day for African cycling

Pretty impressive that PCM has so many assets for New York landmarks. It's certainly a beautiful stage. The proportions of the buildings to the Statue of Liberty and such are a bit off though.

They were actually all made from scratch by the amazing Leon40 who deserves a big shoutout for the beautiful stages as well as creating the IBs!

Wow that's incredible! I can't even imagine how much time that must have taken. Chapo!

Wow, thank you a lot to Leon40 for making the race, but also to Nemolito for presenting it this well. It actually felt like I was in New York reading the report
Had vague hopes for Anderberg and Yzeiraj to get involved in the late attacks, but probably not strong enough, or not in the right position to do so when it was possible. Yzeiraj commited to Kamberaj makes perfect sense, which was good to see.
Dominating sprint from Kemboi, who could do it all again in the World Championship. Would be sensational if so, considering their two men strong team
Congratulations on the win, jph! |

Nice win for the French in the TTT. Mutsumine clearly the best for Japan, but he couldn't do it all by himself
Thanks for the brilliant report, Ulrich!

Great result for the French after the pain of previous years. I will of course put it down to having 2 riders newly maxed out this year leading their team to victory with 1 taking honours across the finish line.
Cool to have 2 World Champions with us next season

Awesome presence from Indonesia! A couple in the break and Novardianto going all in at the finish. Gotta be happy with that

Cavagna and Madouas are TTT world champs! What a tight race for a 50 minute effort.
Such a great scenic route with lovely aerial shots, thanks you Leon indeed!
The B road race doesn't fill me with confidence that Demare has a shot to take the jersey from Herklotz, too little influence seems to come from the hills along the route and Coquard's presence in the lineup complicates things even further.
Still, as long as he gives it a try, there can be a surprise!

Guess it's good to see France finally take that win
On the other hand, pretty disappointed by Switzerland and especially Italy. Well, it can only go better in the ITT for them I guess
