I have been trying to win som KOM jerseys lately but can't seem to get it right on the climbs even though i have tried a few different methods.
I'm in the breakaway and if i wait until the rest of the breakaway starts sprinting my guy will always be the slowest of the bunch, doesn't matter what rider i have or who else is in the breakaway.
If i try to get away from far out (4-5 km from the top) most riders will follow and i will have no energy left to beat them at the top.
The only way i can think of where i sometimes have a chance is to have the (by far) best climber in the breakaway and make the race extremely hard over the first few climbs and then i might have a chance at the 3rd or 4th climb.
Am i doing it wrong? Do any of you have any tips?
I'm playing on hard or extreme difficulty, not sure yet which one i like the most.
my method is to set an higher pace (78/80) at around 4km to the top, to reach the front of the group; then increase again the pace to a max of 88/90 close to 3/2,5km to the top, and in the end, just if you need it, start to sprint into the last km.
this works well in particular if you have a rider with higher MO than HIL, in this way the opponents will drain their energy trying to overtake your position
I have the same issue. Even if i have the best climber/acc/hi and i just follow the attacks to counter attack it is hardly never possible to pass. Unless it is something like Pogacar vs Barthe.
The only method is to put a high pace early on which is pretty unrealistic and not like any other edition. Can not see the point.

Doing something similar, but i often find that the opponents easily overtake me, but i guess i gotta experiment some more

Since PCM 2021, you can increase the % of effort when attacking.
Does that mean that if my effort is 99 and i attack my pace will be higher than if i attack with an effort of 70?
No, you have to increase the effort after you've lanched the attack (with your mouse or with "8". See the red rectangle on my screen : https://postimg.c...
Maybe a stupid question, but it sounds like some of you forget to adjust the effort bar when you attack? If you just press attack your rider will only use low effort in the attacks, you have to adjust the slider thing.
I had the same problem and kept loosing almost every single KOM sprint, even to riders with way less Hill or Mountain stats and i was like 'This game is bugged and broken', but i realised the the slider was basically at 0, and when i found out you can up the slider i win way more KOM sprints.

Great shout out to everyone who pointed out increasing effort after hitting the attack button. Even if the effort bar looks like it is high, if you dont touch the effort bar after declaring the attack you are attacking with a very very low effort.
So even if your effort is close to max, you still have to drag it to the max after attacking.
