For me the issue with starting the Man-Game (for outsiders) is the long wait from subscribing until the game actually begins. This - to me - is the biggest risk of losing new members.
If they sign up, and there’s Daily progress with new things to deal with and then Kick-off with FA’s then I think we Can keep many. But otherwise I fear that those showing interest will lose it before it starts. We saw it last season where some were interested at first, but as nothing happened there was no point in logging in anymore.
For us, it’s part of the game, but if I joined a new game with that much wait I would probably do the same.
That is indeed a very good point. I can't immediately come up with a way to 'fix' it though. Like you said, it's also part of the game, so except asking people to meet deadlines and telling the new managers they'll be able to start around a certain date, there might not much we can do?

I also agree that the waiting time is a big concern.
Is there any way to streamline the process to where the Transfer/Free Agent window starts within a week of new managers being accepted? Then after the transfer season have the new managers pick their calendar, team goals, etc. Get all caught up with the existing managers already had to do. What type of problems would that cause by doing that? Just curious.

I don't know whether that's possible, but of course every year there are some late entries that get accepted and are almost immediately able to start transfers etc. A possible solution (not for the waiting time itself though) is to give a deadline as soon as we open the new managers thread. If we open it on June 1st and say the deadline is June 25th and decisions will be made official within three days (for example) after that, at least 'early' newcomers will know when to have an answer and when they definitely need to be present (again). Still a chance to lose 1/2 people that way of course, but better than nothing imo.
Of course, to be able to give people a deadline/aim date like that, every other deadline in MG (or well, at least and most importantly renewals) will also need to be decided before actually starting. I think if you let people know several weeks in advance when the three renewal deadlines would be, everyone should be able to either be online then and respond every day or two (for the second and third round), or at least have a file prepared with their first, second and third bid if they are really unsure of being online then for whatever reason.

One other thought, is to pair each accepted new manager with a current manager as soon as accepted. The veteran manager can help explain stuff because it happens pretty fast once it gets going but also provide some contact between acceptance and start up so you are less likely to lose folks as MRE and SotD noted.

I think this could be a strong idea - either as a one-to-one or just to have a dedicated 2/3 guys that can be the MG Guys responsible for answering questions, giving support, generally being available.
Would also be a way for some of the non-reporting DB working but still want to help managers have another thing to do.
___________
I like the idea of a 2-3 page leaflet (one is obviously good for ease of use, but i'd be shocked if you could get the right content on it in a visually pleasing manner) with a powerful front page.
Adding some links, manager testimonials, a few screenshots (although without context they are just PCM screens) etc etc I'm not a graphic designer (as anyone who remembers The Sound can attest to).

^^ It’s a good idea. Could a have a seperate Skype group (so the regular MG Skype group doesn’t get clogged with questions) or something with 3-5 established managers as ‘admins’ to answer any questions a new manager might have.

I like the “Mentor”-idea. I think it is a very good idea to have one person dedicated to help rather than a group. The group Can happen too, but personally I like asking “stupid” questions to a truster person rather than in plenum. Or atleast that was the case when I was younger.

I definitely like the mentor idea. If people would like to be a mentor of one or more people, feel free to let me know. Can't hurt to have a little overview of who would be willing to be a mentor 'officially'. I think most of us had one or more (unofficial) mentors anyway, I know I did. I'll definitely ask (the forum) again when the time comes and new managers start arriving.

I like the mentor idea a lot too. I'd be happy to serve that role for a few newbies

Interesting ideas in here guys.
To be honest, I'm not a fan of us (well, a couple of you actually) going to other communities to advertise, but we also have to keep the game alive and have an input of fresh managers so I understand why we need to do this.
I would focus on the PCM orientated communities and not the cycling ones though as that's where we could potentially get some people that could also become reporters as well since that's been a pretty big issue lately.

I'm not fit to be a mentor unfortunately - I'm a walking and breathing disaster

Would also be happy to help a couple of new managers. Especially if they’re interested in targeting largely mediocre riders from obscure nations

Don't think I'd be a good mentor tbh, getting too easily involved emotionally.
However, I'd happily answer technical questions and all that stuff, as always. Really appreciated in my first year to get fast and precise answers, and ever since tried to do the same for newbies.
